Because that is a long loving game. Were you just supposed to sit on your rear end for like 6 hours straight and beat it out? No wonder kids got fat from this poo poo that is pathetic

i'll thank you not to put video games in the 'kids' section, as a mature adult, i find them therapeutic and in fact if you check out my bi-weekly twitch stream you'll find that

Dude, I read in Nintendo Power that you could duck in one of the first levels and run behind the scenery! I've go the power. Nintendo Power.

I played this on the Wii virtual console and got to the very last world, second-last level, then I shut it down the wrong way apparently because it deleted my save the next time I started it up.

Yes. It's not that long of a game, especially if you use warps. Maybe if you do every single stage or something. I mean basically the length of the game varies depending on how you want to play it, and you could spend forever playing the game, which was nice when you were a kid and you only had a few video games, or you could beat it in under an hour and impress the neighborhood. facebook jihad posted:How is a 5 year old supposed to know this By playing the game? That or Nintendo power. Or an older sibling. Or a friend. Or your uncle who works for Nintendo and beat every game (including the Japanese versions, which were way harder). burritolingus fucked around with this message at 14:28 on Apr 25, 2015 |

Gonna blow your motherfucking mind. Just get the first two warp whistles. Use one, and then use the second on the warp map. It'll warp you straight to world 8.

facebook jihad posted:So basically all the levels between the warp whistles are a waste of time? It's... it's a video game. The entire thing is a waste of time. The whole point is you're bored and want something to do that won't get you into too much trouble. Doesn't really matter how you beat it unless you're using like a Game Genie or something. I mean, the game gives you the warp whistles, and that level 8 is enough of a challenge that, if you can beat it, you could beat the other levels. But if you have a part of a day, you can do it no warps and brag about it the next day at school during lunch time.

One sitting, but it's not like you're expected to beat it the first time or anything you play over and over again, and eventually you are good enough to do the whole thing ps warp whistles are for dumb babies

When I was a kid I saw the warp whistles as cheap and would always just try to get as far as I could. Won a couple times.

Not until you got really good. A lot of games didn't have save or password features at the time, so you would just try to get as far as you could before turning off the game. Restarting from World 1 gave you the chance to beat levels with more lives and get more items than last time, so it wasn't really a loss. You'd get better at the earlier levels, saving your lives and items for the later ones until you could beat them more without as much extra assistance. You might've even found the warp whistles to skip them. Even so, some of the levels were surprisingly short, even near the end. Eventually you were good enough to make it to the end and beat it. Everyone seems to be really concerned about beating games now. Back then we used to play to have fun because beating games was rare.

Nintendo Power was required reading for all kids who actually wanted to beat those games. It wasn't considered cheating because, as you said, how is anyone supposed to know that stuff?

Nintendo Power helped, but it wasn't required. If you owned the game, you'd play it over and over and eventually figure it out, especially if it was one of the only games you owned. I mean, Super Mario 3 isn't even that cryptic to be honest.
|
# ? Apr 25, 2015 15:00 |
Really if you aren't good enough to beat the game without warp whistles, you probably aren't going to be able to do world 8 without any powerups or anything if you just go straight there

I've gone through the whole game a couple times in recent years when playing with friends. It's not that long, each level can be beaten in 30 seconds or so if you rush through it. Couple hours, max.

you know you can use the whistles to warp to any world and not just world 8 right? That also is an option for taking more than one sitting to play all the way through

# ? Apr 25, 2015 15:22 |

the thing to do was get the warp whistles, fill up on items, warp to world 8 and win, start with 26 p-wings, get the warp whistles, warp to world 8 and get 2 more items, win ... start with 28 hammer brother suits, play the entire game killing everything with hammers

Once some one's cool older brother figured out the double warp whistle trick the game could be beat in 30 mins. And then you'd call that fat kid Randy a liar for saying that if you don't kill any goomba Peach is nude after you save her. Cause gently caress that guy.

In fact the NES version after about level 5 just stops and doesn't start again till level 8. They didn't add the rest of the game till the SNES re-release. I didn't know beating it a second time gave you a inventory full of hammer bros. suits.
