Up was totally steampunk when you think about it

- hot air balloon with sails
- zeppelin
- old men dueling
- aggressive zoology
- blunderbusses

It's just a term to explain a resource that can't exist, scientists actually use this term, it has a legit meaning. The movie is literally making fun of itself and its premise.

Also movies like Avatar are pretty much driven by how overseas markets especially China go crazy over CGI spectacles.

So much that the most recent transformer movie included bit pandering to communist china like helpless Hong Kong officials crying for help.

True Lies was entertaining, then he lost his marbles on Titanic and just started wanting to spend all his time underwater. Every time now I think of the Sealab 2020 theme when he gets brought up.

Still he had cool poo poo on his plate but he pushed it back for three loving Avatar sequels. That's right, a trilogy cannot contain the amazing plot that is Avatar.

That said I think that's unfair, unlike Lucas he is a brilliant director - and by all accounts kind of an rear end in a top hat. It's just he is not brilliant screen writer and all his best movies had people to punch that up. Avatar was well directed, I don't think anyone could have done better on that front.

ED: Just think if Fox had given him the budget to make his Terminator 3 (totally set in the future leading up to Terminator 1) back when the actors were still young enough to make it work and the franchise was still gold, they'd probably been printing money still and we might have been spared both Cameron's career into things nobody cares about and lovely Terminator movies.

true lies really didn't know what it wanted to be, if it was supposed to be a parody it simultaneously tried to be :c00l: way too hard

it's weird that he's doing avatar sequels over battle angel alita, he was all about that a few years ago
