Realized I have no influence on national and state politics and my opinion does not matter. I seek to understand what is going on so I know how it influences me and organizations I am a part of but I am a spectator and not under the delusion that I am a participant. I switched from being idealistic (first right then left) to being practical pn most issues. Whatever works within basic standards of fairness. Realized I can influence local politics and dabble there quite a bit.

i have become far less cynical about humans in general since i was in my early twenties but i find that i have less and less common with people who describe themselves as liberal every day. i have left wing ideas about economics, criminal policy, foreign policy etc. but it seems that the left who dominate discussion are a bunch of whack job faggots.
