Started out as a quasi-Republican, mindlessly riding the Reagan wave, flirted with Libertarianism but rejected it once I bothered to read up on what they believe. Drifted for a bit but became increasingly liberal as the American conservative culture war and assault on all non-rich, non-whites escalated. Currently identify as a Social Democrat.

i was a dirty rear end crust punk (tho never one of those anarcho-tribalist knuckleheads)-vegan, lack of showers, patching up my clothes instead of buying new ones, drinking the 5$ 40's with a gaggle of other punks in back alleys. sustainable living , sweating cheap beer and being overly opinionated was my "thing". now i'm mid twenties and won't talk politics irl. think what you want to think and do whatever as long as you're not stepping on my toes, i'm just riding this poo poo out now. You think it would be better for China and India to use tried and tested nuke tech by the time they are ready to fully industrialize or do you think we'd be better off letting them use coal/oil and turning half the globe into Shanghai?

The biggest pollutants in the world aren't coal and oil powerplants but agriculture, industry, and transport. If you give them more energy, even if it's clean, those sectors will balloon accordingly. It's much better to keep a ceiling on that poo poo with higher energy prices. And really, most conveniences we enjoy are completely unnecessary anyway, if we abolished them the energy crisis would be solved overnight

Anyway the whole green argument of giving western conveniences up is a greater fantasy than a total transition to nuclear power imo. And how much industry and transport is involved with the oil/coal/fossil fuel industry? Once we get off oil/coal I don't see any reason to continue using gas powered vehicles, either. Just look at the Tesla that poo poo is great, the only issue at the moment is that it's out of most people's price range. Scalding Coffee posted:I am surprised goons get angry over China being number one polluter in the world, when they are doing so much with helping other countries cut down on their standard of living. I'm not angry about it, I'm just pointing out that they want to modernize too and their population is huge. If they try to do it the same way we did we'll be choking on pollution globally. At the same time they have the right to modernize their countries so we better figure some new tech out. This 'clean coal' lark and 'cutting back on our lifestyle' stuff totally ignores the few billion people on the other hemisphere that are about to buy a bunch of cars. If you want to roll nuclear out slow that's one thing but the greens (afaik) are against nuclear on general principle and want no nuclear at all ever which is dumb.

As a teen and in my early twenties I was very left-leaning. As I get older, I still think people should be able to have more control over their bodies, their marriages and all the other socially liberal things but the way the left comes off to me now is revolting so I am not as blatant with my liberalism/libertarianism. Of course, the far right is just as revolting/terrifying in their own ways but at least they seem less like rabid, whiny, ultra-feminist, anti-patriarchy, cultural relativistic SJWs screaming about checking privilege and claiming oppression at every corner.

Libertarianism in the USA isn't left btw. And Tumblr doesn't represent the left fairly any more than freepers represent the right fairly. Just examine the issues and think about them and decide for yourself instead of basing your political philosophy on which fandom is more annoying imo.

Started out as a centrist democrat. Parents were democrats, but I'm not sure why, they were (and are) severely wedged conservative fundamentalist christians. Then I began to become more and more liberal. (My parents don't understand what went wrong with the way they taught me.) At one point I was helping out at a retirement home in Los Angeles that catered to ultra liberals. I used to talk with a lot of arthritic hippies. My favorite old dude was a guy who had fought in the Bolshevic Revolution and had met Lenin and Stalin. He had great stories about the dark times in Russia. I became more liberal, eventually working at KPFK radio, one of the Pacifica stations. As liberal as they get. Today I am practically a socialist. Depending upon my mood I think the world we be a better place if we all emulated the Scandinavian countries or that we should weaponize Occupy Wall Street. I'm also in school, teaching the Leaders Of The Future.
