Brannock posted:I wonder if the NFL will intentionally delay announcing picks again tonight. They will for the 2nd round since they have a dog and pony show with ex-players from each team to announce the picks (which I am totally down with), then starting in round 3 they will not give a gently caress and neither will either network.

I'd make a crack about it looking like a Klan rally, but that's implied by it being a horse race.

Now, that's an interesting gambit. La'el Collins's representatives are now claiming that if he isn't selected tonight, he'll just remove himself from the draft and wait until next year's.

Since we were doing power rankings chat, here's ESPN's historical power rankings for each team since 2002: http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/rankings/trended/_/name/ne/new-england-patriots Patriots have been below 15th for two weeks total. After that Chiefs game last year and when Matt Cassel was Casseling it up in 2008. Browns were only in the top 10 for 5 weeks over these 13 years, all in 2007. 2nd least highly thought of looks to be Washington, which had a 6 week run in 2008 in the top 5, but little else over that time. Dolphins are probably the team closest to the middle, but you knew that already.

Missouri Supreme Court just took a dump on Roger Goodell: The former equipment manager of the Rams filed a complaint against the league claiming that requiring all arbitration go through the commissioner was a breach of the NFL's constitution and bylaws and they agreed, citing: Section 8.3 gives the commissioner complete control and final jurisdiction to arbitrate any dispute between any player, coach or other employee of the league. Section 8.1 requires the NFL to employ a person of unquestioned integrity as commissioner, at which point fixed compensation during his employment is decided. Section 8.2 then dictates that the “commissioner shall have no financial interest, direct or indirect, in any professional sport.” as wildly inconsistent and incompatible with each other. In particular: quote:...concluded that the conflicting provisions and obvious bias of the Commissioner when “required to arbitrate claims against his employers” makes the requirement that employees submit claims to arbitration resolved by the Commissioner unenforceable. As such, no employee of the Rams or Chiefs now has to use Goodell as arbiter when appealing a league decision. Players will have to fight it in court, as they're still under the jurisdiction of the CBA. Also, like Goodell I'm no lawyer, but section 8.2 sure would seem to make bonuses paid on top of salary against the rules, as that's a pretty direct financial interest in the sport. $40 of Goodell's $44 million last year came in the form of bonuses. Though I have to sit here and wonder why stat heads in the NFL never mention a loving average. Your stats are vague, what's a normal number of pressures for an offensive lineman to give up? How would anyone know how good Oher is? He was playing in Tennessee, nobody ever saw him!

Pay Russ his money and just give up on the idea of ever having good wide receivers he can't use anyway. Just line up some big ol' assholes on the outside to beat up on cornerbacks as you run off tackle for the 20th time in a half. You know, like Ben's teams did for years.

SA2K posted:The Chargers worst record in the last decade is 7-9, and also the only time they've finished below .500. They aren't lovely Rivers is also on the tail end of a contract signed in 2009, so he's already way cheaper then a bunch of QB's anyway. The Chargers problem is they spend high picks on running backs and guys like Larry English, not paying Philip Rivers $15m a year. The Saints problem is since they re-signed Brees, they lost a year of Sean Payton, then splurged on a bunch of expensive free agents and that crashed spectacularly.

Wait a second, don't the NFL offseason rules forbid offense vs defense drills? Phase One consists of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation only. Phase Two consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual player instruction and drills as well as team practice conducted on a "separates" basis. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted. Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or "OTAs." No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted. Phase 1 starts April 20th, so they're in Phase 2 right now... and huh, they might have a bigger problem. Kalli fucked around with this message at 20:27 on May 8, 2015 |

This is Goodell's fault. If he hadn't restricted the god fearing capitalist freedom for rookies to negotiate their rookie contracts, he'd be a week into a protracted 2 month negotiation period, not tearing his ACL in underarmor shorts.
