Pretty much. At least he is also at least a pretty decent human being with only a couple of hosed up beliefs, which in politician terms probably qualifies for sainthood.

When a tree grows, it is soft and pliable. But when it's dry and hard, it dies.

Hardness and strength are death's companions. Flexibility and softness are the embodiment of life.

That which has become hard shall not triumph.

The only similarities between Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul are that they're both popular on the internet and will both never be President.

Also they're both old white guys I suppose, but trying to draw any other parallel between them is farcical.

Bernie needs a gimmick. Ron Paul honestly believed in the mystical power of pure-strain gold Krugerrands. I don't know that Bernie has any equivalent beliefs. At least Kucinich had his UFO story.

Unions as they existed in the 20th century as a solution today.

Instead one might consider state-run information systems for job finding / income reporting, with a minimum income and constant demand for basic labor (filling potholes, janitorial work, oil changes, w/e). If you are capable of work, you work.

Old white guys loved by young white guys on the internet whose views are far out of the mainstream.

The first part about still going back to the past for ideas is the gimmick.

If you really wanted to revolutionize work in this country you wouldn't just be fighting big business and finance, but unions as well. Institutional Inertia is a bitch and makes bad fundraising. It would be like Uber vs. existing cab infrastructure and laws - but on a much wider scale. The 'obvious' solution is to mandate an Uber-type model with the 'protocols' (hours, pay, certification) managed by a regional government.

This is weird. I just saw this thread as I was halfway through watching this 45 minute speech the Bernman gave in Texas. I only paused it to donate to his campaign. I'm nearly 30 and have never donated to a campaign.

I think the comparison is more along the lines of a bunch of young idealists donating money to a hopeless campaign in order to "send a message." Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Bernie's around to pull dem positions and rhetoric left but he obviously will never be the nominee.

If you're one of those people who apparently believe he has a nonzero chance of getting the dem nomination or even the presidency, consider putting bumper stickers on telephone polls and posting about it on reddit. If y'all can do this he just might win.
