Previously, on Saturday Night Live... Can we just pretend last week didn't happen? There were some moments, but overall it felt like a combination of end of season fatigue and "just got back from vacation" ricketiness all rolled up into one, producing a rather bleh episode. Didn't Suck, I Guess Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight was more entertaining than the fight, to hear people who watched both things tell it. Blazer was the one attempt at political commentary (of many this week) that actually landed, due to its great pacing and not jumping the gun in pointing out the joke. Why Did You Do This Dino Bones felt like an attempt to repeat the sketch from earlier this year with the whining "I CAN'T EVENNNNN" milennials, except it was making fun of an unclear stereotype (Were they making fun of monkey cheese random people, and if so, aren't they all like 14?) and didn't have anything to redeem itself. Right Side of the Bed and Girlfriends Talk Show played Sketch Comedy Mad-Libs (with Right Side suffering wildly diminishing returns). Stop Trying to Be the Daily Show Girlfriends also had the severe misfortune of coming right after SNL's jab at women character's treatments in movies with Black Widow Trailer. It undercut the point that the trailer half-heartedly made before it wandered off getting bogged down in the minutia of the structure of romcoms and fitting in as many Avengers characters as humanly possible. Orioles made fun of what was, admittedly, a ridiculous story in the empty stadium by making a bunch of tepid "lol baseball" and "lol police brutality" jokes. 12:55 Own Zone Virgin Flight was an honorary member of the Own Zone, with a pair of great performances (Scarlet Johansson did a good job all around, despite my whining) and a bizarre concept that didn't go too far. Jingle Writers was like a coked-out version of those Will Ferrell-Ana Gasteyer sketches that made absolutely no goddamn sense and was hilarious anyway. Weekend Update Report Part 1 / Part 2 - Not quite as good as it's been in previous weeks, but still a reliable portion of the show. All the correspondents were great (sorry, thread, that Shaq Jay Pharoah does owns) for once, too, which is a plus! This week, on The Week Before Louis C.K. Hosts... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6qnqy41vKc The last time Reese Witherspoon hosted was 14 years ago. Specifically, two weeks after 9/11. That's an awful weird time to host, something she's reflected on elsewhere. She did participate in an episode of Celebrity Jeopardy, for what it's worth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9v8jLBrvug Florence + The Machine is the closest thing to Fleetwood Mac we're going to get anytime soon. I say that because holy poo poo does Florence have a set of pipes that I could listen to forever and ever. Next week... It's the last one of the season! May 16, 2015: Louis C.K. and Rihanna

Tonight Vintage returns, and it's the big Betty White episode from almost exactly 5 years ago today, May 8 2010, with Jay-Z. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/09/09u.phtml Originally, until a couple days ago, this episode was scheduled to air next week, with tonight's Vintage scheduled to be Julia Louise-Dreyfus/Paul Simon from May 13 2006, 9 years ago. But it was switched out and Betty White bumped up, and understandably so. White's was a big Mother's Day show, and SNL has always taken kindly to Mother's Day. I feel like this is recent enough in SNL history that many of you saw it, but in case there's anyone who didn't: There was a Facebook page called "Betty White to Host SNL (Please?!)" in early 2010 that would come to gain over a quarter million fans. In a rare case of anything on the internet being listened to by anybody else, Lorne asked White to host, and she graciously accepted. To make the job less burdensome for the 88-year-old, Michaels recruited many recent female SNL alumni to help carry the Mother's Day show- Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, and Molly Shannon - nearly all mothers themselves (Dratch was 6 months pregnant at the time.) This episode won 3 Emmys that year, including Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, and was nominated for 4 others. Next week looks to be the last Vintage in the series. After that the schedule is a wasteland of hockey, The Island reruns, more hockey (yo just how many damned months do the NHL playoffs go for, anyway? They've been going for over a month already and there's a game scheduled for June 13 for god's sake,) and boxing. SNL Vintage checklist
