Been working on a thing. http://cookwithkevin.com/midi/ It's a 486 DX2 66 from Circa 1994, HP Vectra VE 4/66 running DOS. Hooked it up to the internet via a parallel port Ethernet adapter. It's got a Sound Blaster 16 clone by Aztech and a Roland SC-55 And it's available for you to play MIDIs on. Real MIDIs. The kind your parents played when they were young, when disk space was expensive. ITT post your favorite MIDIs. Edit: Basically, this thing is only slightly tested and mostly done as a joke as a weekend project. If it's stable, and finds use, will be making it more permanent. Novo posted:midi is still a thing; let us know when you get it playing .mod files and i'll upload you some space debris That was my project from a few years back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKYy4LnO-uw Would nearly peg the server out at 100% Anyway, maybe. It would take probably about 10 minutes but I'd have to stop the site to bust open qbasic. SSH IT ZOMBIE fucked around with this message at 04:12 on May 15, 2015 |

Do you have more specs on the hardware in that computer? I am imagining that you would want 32 megs of RAM, which is on the very high end for a 486. It might just be 16, though?

glowing-fish posted:Do you have more specs on the hardware in that computer? Maxed out at 64. Also a 8GB CF card and a SIIG ISA Fast EIDE to support disks > 500 megs or whatever. Conventional memory is a concern, kept running out for a while till I forced everything to high memory. Too many loving TSRs.

Is this pretty cool although I wish it handled file sizes larger then 2 mb E: 2mbs wasn't enough b/c I was converting songs into midi using a website, this makes them sound like awful garbage and SSH IT ZOMBIE's computer won't make them sound any better. SSH IT ZOMBIE posted:Conventional memory is a concern, kept running out for a while till I forced everything to high memory. Too many loving TSRs. Ya know, you could just throw QEMM on it and use some video RAM for DOS. Also, if you can compile your QBASIC vs running it via the interpreter, you can easily reclaim base memory by abusing SPAWNO (check URL, its via Ralf Brown). oh gently caress now you've got me E: I vaguely recall the "DOLLERS" guy about some video card thing in SH/SC years ago, but now I don't exactly know why. Its interesting to see what songs come across the best in Midi. "My Girl" sounds great. Even on midi, the melody's message comes through. I imagine most pop music wouldn't fare as well.
