Really, the problem with any redesign of the game is that the world that Dante inhabits doesn't make a lick of goddamned sense. If your description of the world goes beyond 'sometimes there are demons', then you're probably thinking too hard about it and ultimately missing the point. Trying to incorporate any kind of political or even social commentary into a game where motorcycles are a close-combat weapon and you can hyper-accelerate the sword you just hurled at a monster by shooting bullets at it and then run really fast to catch up to it because that's just how goddamned cool you are is a fundamental mismatch. All I really want from the franchise is for them to have just enough plot to string together some awesome pseudo-gothic environments and have a ton of stuff for me to slaughter throughout. It's just rather frustrating to hear Capcom say 'if we wanted that we'd do it ourself' when that's exactly what everyone wanted in the first place.

I mean you're doing Dante wrong if he's not that dude who'd show up at your party and make it 100% more awesome until demons attacked.

Or 100% even more awesome BECAUSE demons attacked.

Dante doesn't have to be the universally stylish character with all the associated symbols and injokes etc that the series has built into him thus far. The problem is that the reboot that we did get was terrible, not that it was different. Speaking of which: Rigged Death Trap posted:Arguably no. It's debatable whether Hell and Hell is a tougher difficulty than Dante Must Die. If the enemies in Hell and Hell were set to Dante Must Die mode level I would think of it as the highest difficulty, but they are only set to Son of Sparda mode. You can tell because they don't Devil Trigger and because Dante's boss moveset is missing certain weapons he uses on DMD mode (Pandora and Lucifer iirc). In addition, while the gimmick of Hell and Hell is supposed to be that you can't get hit, they give you 3 Gold Orbs and refill them every level, so it's more like you can take 3 hits and still finish the level. Every hit just has a long death/revive animation attached because the Gold Orbs are used automatically. Some people prefer Hell and Hell mode but I prefer Dante Must Die mode.

Now I kinda wish that the health in this game was represented by pizza rather then green orbs. It's really nice to see this LP back though.

It is interesting how things work in the main game, Lady can play Nero's levels (since she can also use Grim Grips), Trish can play Dante's, and Vergil can do anything. This according to a preview thing I was watching earlier after getting disgusted at one of those DmC videos someone linked earlier. Having the option of Trish in Dante's sections is super useful for people who aren't quite as awesome at the game exactly because she doesn't have a million options like Dante.

Yeah, I felt ...adequate with DMC3 Dante because the only thing you were juggling was two guns or two weapons. DMC4 Dante has everything at his fingertips at any time and I felt overwhelmed trying to get to grips with it. I could never beat the last Nero stage on Son of Sparda difficulty, so I never even got to try Dante on something harder than Normal.

You mean the pope fight? I found the key to fighting the pope on the higher difficulties was to learn Nero's back->forward air dash slash, because with level 3 exceed it would pop his bubble in a single good hit.

Possible, I just caught them saying they had the split thing going. It's entirely possible it's a different actual split than Nero/Dante's. I'm just assuming it's basically the same because Lady can use Grim Grips and Trish can't so it'd be logical for Lady to go through Nero's version of levels while Trish goes through Dante's. It would make sense for there to be some alterations just to account for the different ability sets and potential for collectibles to be inaccessible or sections that are more difficult than intended for the given characters.

Oh my god I'm so excited for this LP to be back! Also I was thinking about the levels where you play as Lady. Just what the gently caress is she going to do about bosses that require Busters to be feasible? I'm mainly speaking of the final one, since the only way to do real damage past a certain threshold is by countering with Busters. Raruna fucked around with this message at 09:59 on May 20, 2015 |

Think of Nero/Dante and Lady/Trish as separate characters. You choose one combo at the start and go through the campaign with them.

Is the Special Edition going to add any new levels or set pieces to the game? I always thought the characters and gameplay were great, it's just that the actual game they were in is lacking somewhat. Adding more characters is cool but I'd rather have more game to go along with them.

I played through SoS on 360 in Automatic mode once, and this fight was the hardest in the game. I don't know if it's a bug or a daft design decision, but Nero never did any kind of air combo against Sanctus, he would always just do a Split, the air-to-ground chop, which misses him completely. Only thing in the game that made me toss my controller. Just started the LP over again from video 1 to refresh my memory, and man, i forgot how well choreographed and packed with neat little stuff all the cutscenes are. The way Dante just coolly and wordlessly taunts Nero by doing the little revving motion on Alaster(?) in mission one is soooo gooood.
