A direct copy of both balls dropped off the tower appear at the back of the line of balls and takes the place of the first and second balls. The formerly first ball becomes the second, the second becomes the third, and the third and fourth both drop off the tower.

Time works the same way.

this is stupid though, the only reason it won't fall in is because the smallest cover measurement (for a circular cover, the diameter) is larger than the largest hole measurement (for a circular hole, also the diameter), but you can build any shaped cover like that, just might take a little more material for some shapes

the real reason they are round is because the hole is round, and the reason the hole is round is because the tunnel is round, and the reason the tunnel is round is because it's structurally stable under the weight of the ground

No. If it's square you can fit the square in, same for any other shape except circle and equilateral triangle.
Think about a square manhole cover, you can easily drop it through if you stick the side of the lid through the diagonal of the square hole, unless it had crazy-big lips. Say the side of a square is 2 feet... the diagonal would be over 2.8 feet.

Also, your structural integrity argument doesn' work because it refers to tunnels running parallel to the ground, underneath. You don't have to worry about structural integrity when making a small shaft from the street to the tunnel. There's tons of grates on the street that go straight down like a manhole shaft, and those grates are often rectangular

Also I think the golf ball hits first because it will encounter less wind resistance due to it's surface area and dimpling. Obv in a vacuum they'd both his at the same time but w/e

It would shatter when it hit the ground because while it may be the hardest material, it isn't elastic

E: Gravity is a constant, wind-resistance it the variable.

Okay, so the first derivative is speed, the second is acceleration, what is the third again? The acceleration of acceleration?

A bullet is shot parallel to the ground and another is dropped at the same height. Which hits the ground first?

right it's just about material in the overhang. a circle can fit through its own diameter obv, so even a circular lid needs an overhanging 'lip'. a circle will require the smallest lip, but it can be done with any shape. penis shaped grates coming to san francisco soon

i didn't think about rectangular sewer grates so im gonna ignore that

two other advantages of them being round are they can be moved by one person, and they don't have any corners that could protrude and puncture car tires
