Bonzo posted:Oh and there is also this. An Asian guy will make some kind of dish using a recipe his grand mother brought over from China. The judges then scold him for not trying to break away from what they know and try something new and push the envelope. The next round they will get a basket with all Chinese items and they guy makes the most unique dishes out of all the other chefs. The judges then say they were hoping that the contestant was really going to use their ethnic roots as an inspiration for this basket and then eliminate them citing that they really wanted to them use more of the techniques he'd been taught as a child. Top Chef does this like every season. "You made me a burger, I expected more from you!" "All I wanted as a nice, simple burger. This is way too complicated and you went way too far."

ArbitraryC posted:Everyone seems to be responding with titles marketed towards women but imo those aren't the worse shows to watch with your girlfriend. The worst shows to watch with your girlfriend are plot heavy series you like but they're not that interested in, so they'll spend half the air time talking over the show or not paying attention and then the other half asking you about the parts they didn't catch. This happened to me with The Wire. After 5-6 episodes I figured she wasn't interested so I watched up to the first few episodes of season 2 on my own. She got upset about that so I stopped and said I'd rewatch season 1 with her. That was more than a year ago.

How Gordan Ramsey cooks and the vast majority of how America/the rest of the damned world cook are diametrically opposed. That being said, the man is talented and I have enjoyed some of his recipes. Most people don't give a poo poo that their eggs are creamed to perfection with butter and heat on heat off blah blah blah. They want their drat eggs done the way they want them and now. Cooking shows like his are for food porn people. People who enjoy the mental stimulation from seeing a professional ply his trade.

We just watch GoT with CC on, gently caress it.

Sound mixing is so weird on tv and movies now anyway that I have been using subs for years. loving quiet rear end conversations and loud rear end gunfire or whatever. Hell when I was a kid I turned the captions on the TV and it helped me become a pretty fast reader so it's pretty much got no downsides.
