What is Brave Frontier?

Well, how about some totally normal ads? Or maybe the full animated commercials?

Brave Frontier is a free to play turn based RPG which shares some similarities to games like Puzzle & Dragons and Defenders of Texel. Like other games you fuse units to level them and evolve them into more powerful versions. Unlike other games this plays more like a JRPG. You field a squad of 6, with one unit being your leader who grants an ability to the party and a friend who also grants a leader ability. You take turns with the enemy swapping attacks like a traditional JRPG. Instead of relying on speed to determine attack order you tap on each units icon to initiate their attack animation. Different units take different lengths of time before they attack which creates some strategy. If two units strike at the same time they create a spark which deals bonus damage. As you fight your brave burst Meter fills up which allows you to pull off a powerful attack, heal or buff. Think limit breaks from Final Fantasy 7.

:siren:There are 4 versions of Brave Frontier - Global, Japan, Europe and Korean. Almost all goons play on GLOBAL! Keep this in mind if you're in Europe, you'll want to download the global APK:siren:

:siren:Unit Collection Tool! We're going to go with this for listing our units, it's a bit basic but it gives us the important information we need when making squad recommendations.:siren:

Old friends list can be found here.

Your first reaction upon logging in and completing the brief tutorial is that there are SO MANY THINGS TO DO OH MY GOD. There's a lot of content in the game to complete, such as:

  • Storyline Quests (Gems gems gems gems gems)
  • Vortex Dungeon Quests (Free units, evolution mats, crafting mats etc)
  • Trials and X-Trials (multiple squads fighting uber bosses)
  • Raid and X-Raid Battles (up to 4-player raid fights, 4 tiers with 10+ missions each)
  • Arena PvP (Asynchronous, automated PvP battles)
  • Grand Gaia Chronicles (Very hard boss encounters, sweet sweet loot)
  • Frontier Hunter (Brave Frontier Hi-Score mode)
  • Daily and Weekly Dungeons
  • Plus more content coming very soon

Game Resources

Like most free to play games there are a number of limited resources. You can either wait for things to regenerate over time or pay money to speed things up.

  • Gems: The paid resource in the game. Used to refill time-based resources, summon rare units, expand your item/unit/friend slots and buy raid stamps (little emotes to use during raid battles)
  • Energy: The main free resource in the game. Used to run quests and dungeons. Regenerate 1 energy every 3 minutes. Refills when you level. Wise players will manage their Energy so that they run out just as they level up.
  • Arena Orbs: Used to fight in the arena against other players. Regenerate 1 orb every hour. Refills when you level.
  • Zel: Used to evolve and level up your units. Gained by hitting enemies, selling jewel units and certain achievements. You will drown in this before long.
  • Karma: Used to upgrade your town and make spheres. Not that important compared to the other resources. You will also be swimming in this before long.
  • Hunter Orbs: Used for participating in Frontier Hunter. Regenerate 1 every 3 hours. Does not refill on level.

The game is pretty good about giving you free gems. You receive a gem for completing each area of a continent, most of which have 6-7 per region, and there's 3 regions per continent. This adds up to a lot of gems over time. You can also get gems for completing certain vortex dungeons, moving up a Raid Class, milestone rewards for Brave Points, Arena Rank-Ups, Daily Login Prize, and compensation for downtime. If you're a F2P player, you will want to spend your gems primarily on rare summoning - more than anything, you need decent rares to be able to complete the higher level content. Unit space is important too, item space and friend list space is less important however still worth spending gems on, just not many.

Useful Terms
  • BB: Brave Burst. Your unit's super combo or limit break. Can be leveled from 1-10 to increase the potency.
  • SBB: Super Brave Burst. More powerful than BB but takes two full bars to use. Unlocks when you watch your best friend die Unlocks on all 6* units once BB level is 10. SBB can also level from 1-10.
  • UBB: Ultimate Brave Burst. Unlocked on 7* units when SBB is level 10. Requires you to fill your OD gauge before you can use it. When triggered, the unit's BB gauge and the OD gauge empties. You have 3 turns to fill the BB gauge to use your ultimate attack or it resets. Incredibly powerful with unique effects.
  • OD: Overdrive. A gauge that appears only when you have a 7* unit with UBB unlocked in your squad. Fills slowly over battles and when dealing and taking damage. Once it's filled, you can trigger ONE unit's UBB. Each fill of the OD gauge takes longer each time you use it.
  • ES: Extra Skill. A passive, always-on effect that 7* units can unlock once their UBB is unlocked. Some ES have specific conditions required in addition to being unlocked.
  • LS: Leader Skill. Passive ability that is granted to all party members when the unit is the leader. Squads are built around these.
  • FH: Frontier Hunter. A week long event that happens once a month. Gain rewards for high scores in dungeons and rank relative to other players.
  • Mitigator: Unit with a BB/SBB that reduces damage by a fixed percent, usually 50%. Mandatory for many high level dungeons.
  • Mono: References a team of mostly one element type to take advantage of elemental weakness and elemental ore/seal items.
  • Rainbow: References a team of multi elemental types
  • Rarity: Represented by stars, determines the relative rarity and power of the unit. Evolved forms of units will be of a higher rarity. 7* is the current highest rarity.
  • MP: Metal Parade. Gives valuable elemental Ghosts/Kings/Gods/Crystal units to level up your team.
  • RS: Rare Summon. Refers to units summoned through the Rare Summon Gate. The primary reason why you'll be defaulting on your power bill next month.
  • HS: Honor Summon. Refers to units summoned through the Honor Summon Gate. Mostly poo poo, occasionally Super Honor Summon events replaces poo poo with Crystals, Burst/Sphere Frogs and Imps.
  • SMP: Super Metal Parade. Better version of MP. Only drops Kings/Gods/Crystals with higher chances for each.
  • JP: Jewel Parade. Zel version of Metal Parade. Zel flows like a river from this game so this dungeon is rarely run.
  • RNG: Random Number Generator. The reason why poo poo you want never drops.
  • BC: Brave Crystal. Fills your Brave Burst bar by 1. You usually get 1 per hit from each attack.
  • HC: Heart Crystal. Gives your unit a small heal. Randomly drop after hits.
  • DC: Drop Count. Determines how many BC/HC are potentially produced by the unit's attack. Works alongside Hit Count.
  • Hit Count. Determines how many times a unit hits for damage per attack. Works alongside Drop Count.
  • Spark: When two hits from different units land at the same time, they spark and add more damage.
  • Crit: Attacks have a change to critical, dealing significantly more damage than usual.
  • Honor Points: Used to summon from the Honor Summon Gate. Earned by taking friend summoner units into battle, daily login prizes and daily gifts
  • BP: Brave Points. Earned by completing daily tasks such as fusing 25 units, competing 5 quests etc. Gives rewards for milestones and can also be used to buy goodies.

Daily Dungeons and Events

Each day, one or more daily dungeons will open for 24 hours in the Vortex. Each serves a specific purpose however most of them are related to evolution. While you can farm some of the evolution units outside these dungeons, it's almost always much less energy and time efficient to do so. Some events will open up every daily dungeon for a week, and seasonal/exclusive dungeons pop up fairly often.
  • Monday: Souls Training Ground - Three dungeons full of Karma, Exp and fairly tough enemies. Lvl 3 gives 9200exp for 25 energy. Go nuts if it's a 1/2 energy event.
  • Tuesday: Enchanted Paradise - Farm your evolution materials here (Nymphs, Spirits, Idols, Pots). Four dungeons, five battles per dungeon and the phrase "gently caress pots" firmly cemented in your mind.
  • Wednesday: Cave of Desires + Bulb Haven - Get your bat/dragon/metal mimics and elemental evolution bulbs here. Cave lvl 1 and 2 drop metal mimics (rarely, with similar odds so run lvl 1 unless you need bats), lvl3 drops dragon mimics. Bulbs drop whenever the hell they feel like it.
  • Thursday: Oasis of The Gods - Evolution totems are found here. Five dungeons, one for earth/fire/water/thunder and one for miracle totems. Dark/Light totems can be found here on occasion. There is a rare Dark/Light totem special dungeon that opens up occasionally.
  • Friday: Hostile Relics + The Mecha Gods Awaken - Farm a wide variety of item materials in Relics, and get your evolution mecha gods in Mecha Gods Awaken. Aforementioned gods will kick your poo poo in if you're not prepared.
  • Saturday: The Golden Vault - Farm Zel here. Actually, don't. No one does this past summoner level 50.
  • Sunday: You get NOTHING. GO AWAY.
In addition, there are some persistent event dungeons in the Vortex:
  • Grand Gaia Chronicles: Crusade of The Six Heroes: Six sets of dungeons about each of the starter heroes (Vargas, Selena, Eze, Lance, Atro and Magress). Three levels per hero with increasingly harder fights. Requires careful tactics. Beating each set of dungeons rewards gems, zel, karma and one of 6 unique spheres.
  • Grand Gaia Chronicles: Four Heroes of Palmyna: Three dungeons about the saviors of Palmyna (Edea, Lorand, Dean and Loch). Intended to be completed after the first GGC. Considerably harder encounters that call for a full 6* team. Rewards gems, zel, karma and a unique sphere.
  • (Super)Metal/Jewel Parade: Requires metal/jewel keys to open, or three keys for Super. Remains open for one hour. Metal parade comes in 7 flavors, one for each element and one for each element randomly. Drops ghosts, kings, gods and crystals (last two are rare). Super is also random but with much higher chances of gods and crystals, but is much more costly.

Leveling

Leveling your units involves fusing it with other units. This consumes the fused units to improve the main unit. If the fused unit matches the element of the main unit, there is a 50% exp gain increase. Rarely, you may have Great or Super! success when fusing - this adds 50% or 100% more exp gained. Fusing units costs Zel, and will initially be fairly costly though this will quickly become a non-issue. For gaining levels, it's recommended to only fuse elemental Ghosts/Kings/Gods/Crystals as they give far more experience than normal fodder units that you'll acquire hundreds of during Quests, and will cost much less Zel. Fodder is worth 1-2k on average and so are used mainly for Brave Burst leveling, explained further below.

Metal Parade is your main source of Ghosts/Kings/Gods/Crystals. It costs 15 energy and gives 1,000 experience per run. You have to use a Metal Key to open it (3 for Super Metal Parade) which lasts an hour. The best time to use a key is when you get close to leveling. If you have between 45 and 59 energy you can do 3 runs. Use a key when you have 2,001 - 2,999 experience to level. On your third run you will level up and can run the dungeon 3 more times. Once you run out of energy the second time you can idle on the dungeon screen until you get 15 more energy to do one final run, even after your hour expires. This advice is useful in general, not just for Metal Parade.

Evolution

Once your unit reaches maximum level, it can then be evolved (if it has an evolution above the current one). Evolving a unit requires certain evolution units, most of which are found in Vortex Dungeons but some can be captured in the Quest maps. Evolving a unit reduces it's level back to 1, increases the unit's level cap by 20, increases it's max stats and reduces any Brave Burst ability levels by half (unless it's at level 10). It also has a tiny, tiny chance of changing a unit's subtype, but good luck with that. Try not to go crazy with evolving everything as soon as you can, you may find yourself with a lot of highly evolved units and not nearly enough Cost to run them in a team.

Brave Burst Leveling

Brave Bursts and Super Brave Bursts can also be leveled. Doing so increases the potency of the Burst, and in many cases reduce the BC cost of activation too. Leveling a Brave Burst involves fusing a unit with the same kind of Brave Burst as the main unit. There are three categories; Attack, Support and Heal. Some Brave Bursts are a combination of two types, the primary type is the type that you use to level it with. Brave Burst leveling can be quite slow as the success rate is quite low the higher the level. Burst Frogs and Burst Emperors give a guaranteed 1 and 5 BB levels respectively, and duplicate units will also give 1 BB level 95% of the time. Once a unit's Brave Burst reaches level 10 and they're a 6* or rarer unit, they will unlock their Super Brave Burst. Leveling a Super Brave Burst to 10 on a 7* unit unlocks their Ultimate Brave Burst and Extra Skill (though some Extra Skills require more than this to activate). Ultimate Brave Bursts and Extra Skills do not need to be leveled, thank god.
  • Suggested Attack BB spots: Morgan - Kagan Desert (5 Energy Maps). If you must do Mistrel do Cave of Flames - Wielder of Fire (3 Energy) over Start of Adventure (5 unit drop chances vs. 4).
  • Suggested Heal BB spots: Morgan - Nocturnal Forest (5 Energy) or St. Lamia - Blood Forest - Frail Spirit of the Forest (8 Energy). Light maps in Morgan/St. Lamia are also decent.
  • Suggested Support spots: Morgan - Asekutt Wasteland (5 Energy) or Mistrel - Forest of Beasts - Puppeteer of Trees (3 Energy).
Unit Stats and Types

Each unit has a number of stats, some of which grow as the unit levels and others that change when the unit is evolved. You can see most unit stats on it's stat page but there are a number of hidden stats that aren't displayed. The Wiki is a good place to check these stats. The primary stats are:
  • HP: Your unit's maximum hit points.
  • ATK: Attack. Determines how much damage you do per attack and BB/SBB/UBB (if applicable).
  • DEF: Defense. Determines how much damage you mitigate upon being attacked.
  • REC: Recovery. Determines how much hit points are replenished when receiving a HC, and the strength of some healing effects.
  • Cost: Determines how much space in a squad the unit takes up.
The hidden stats that aren't listed in the stat screen are:
  • Hit Count: Determines how many times a unit hits for damage per attack or BB/SBB/UBB (If applicable). Works in conjunction with Drop Count.
  • Drop Count: Determines how many BC/HC are potentially produced by the unit's attack. Works in conjunction with Hit Count.
  • BB/SBB/UBB Cost: How many BC it takes to fill the BB/SBB/UBB gauge. Each tier must be filled before the next one can fill. Using any of them consumes the whole BB gauge.
  • Arena AI Type: Determines how the unit behaves in Arena. There are 7 distinct types. If you're screaming at your team with full BB gauges that never use them, this is why. See Links for more info.
A few things to note about stats. HP is an extremely desirable stat to have as high as possible, HP is king here. Attack and Defense mechanics are relatively complex but in simple terms damage and defense don't scale linearly with stat increases, so doubling defense or attack does not necessarily double your damage or damage reduction. Hit and Drop counts are very important though cannot be altered normally, potentially good units can be otherwise bad just because of poor Drop/Hit counts and vice-verse. BB costs are good to know about as many leader skills focus on BB/BC generation and cost reduction. Arena AI type is vital to know if you want to build an arena team that can compete in the meta, otherwise ignore it. Stats can also be increased by fusing stat Impts, a rare unit that permanently increases a stat up to a set limit. While not massive, they add a considerable chunk of stat to a unit when maxed out.

Units also come with a Type that affects the unit's HP/DEF/ATK/REC stat growth. There are 5 different Types that affect stats in different ways:
  • Lord: The vanilla type. Gives a small increase to each stat.
  • Anima: Often considered the best type. Increases HP stat gain, reduces REC stat gain. HP is almost always more desirable than Rec.
  • Breaker: Great type for offensively focused units. Increases ATK stat gain, reduces DEF stat gain.
  • Guardian: Good type for defensively focused units. Increases DEF stat gain, reduces ATK stat gain.
  • Oracle: Least desirable type by far. Increases REC stat gain, reduces HP stat gain. Despite this, remember; an oracle unit is much better than no unit.
Spheres and Items

There are a variety of usable and material items to collect as you adventure. Most of the item drops you'll pick up are crafting ingredients to create potions, idols, elemental stones, spheres and much more. Expect to pick up a LOT of items during your play. Most items will stack to 99, though spheres and exclusive evolution items are an exception. You will find yourself running out of space for items not too long after starting, this is normal. Feel free to expand your space or cull some of the materials that don't create items that you want. Items that you want, generally speaking, are Cures/Fujins/Revives/Idols/Elemental Stones/Elixirs. You can save space by crafting items to consume stacks of reagents, even if you don't plan on using them anytime soon.

Spheres are what other games would call equipment. They can be equipped to a unit to provide it with a wide array of benefits, though only one may be equipped at a time. Sphere Frogs, an extremely rare unit, can be fused into a unit to give it a second sphere slot. This allows a unit to equip two spheres at once, though you cannot equip two spheres of the same category (E.G You cannot use a Malice Jewel (+30% HP/ATK/DEF/REC) with a Legwand Gem (+25% HP/ATK/DEF/REC) at the same time). Spheres can be created in the Town and Imperial City Randall, and you also earn them as rewards for completing certain content. Don't ever sell non-crafted spheres, you may very well never be able to get it again and some earned spheres can be quite powerful and enable special gameplay mechanics.

Friends and Social

Friends in Brave Frontier provide you with helper units to assist you in battle. Whatever you (or your friend) has as their current leader is able to be brought along to a fight to act as a 6th party member. You gain their leader skill as well, leading to many possibilities when it comes to squad composition. It also lets newbies completely steamroll early content by having access to uber 7* rares.

On top of that, friends may gift each other certain items daily. These items are generated out of thin air so gift every day, there's nothing to lose but make sure you send people what they ask for, otherwise they might just unfriend you. An exception is if they're asking for Green Grass, Zel or Karma. Give them an honor drop or something, because the amount of Zel/Karma that is gifted is less than insignificant and green grass is as common as it sounds. What you want to receive is up to you; Honor Points are useful though still not very worthwhile, Honor Drops are used for revives and high level spheres, Honor Claws/Bones/Fangs are also for creating spheres.

Newbie Advice and Tips

If you're just starting out, there's a few things you can do to make your experience as smooth and productive as possible. Firstly, go through the friend spreadsheet and add as many people as you want, or ask in the thread. The next method I recommend is to start playing on a Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday if possible, as you'll receive a Metal Key on these days. This lets you open up Metal Parade right away. The benefit of this is that it gives 1000exp per run for 15 energy, and all the mobs you'll fight inflict almost no damage so they aren't a threat even to a new player. They reduce damage they take to 1 but they have extremely low HP. The unit drops that you'll get from running this well help tremendously in leveling up your first rares, and you'll gain several levels for the first few runs alone, which will replenish your energy and allow you to run it over and over. Eventually you'll have run out of time on the key or stopped gaining levels to refresh your Energy, by which you should be at level 30+ and full of Ghosts, Kings and maybe a God and Crystal or two.

After this, you'll want to start doing some Quests to complete areas and start earning Gems, item materials and Zel/Karma. If there's a special promotion running on the Rare Summon Gate, doublecheck with goons in the thread that it's worthwhile and then feel free to summon. It can be worthwhile throwing down some cash if you like the game to acquire some good rares that will carry you through the early game. Otherwise, be a miser with your gems and only use them to summon if there's a good event on. In addition, before long you're going to find yourself running out of unit or item space. F2P players should focus on unit space rather than item space when possible as it provides much more benefit.

Focus on getting a good squad together, then on getting them leveled up. Evolution is not important at the start as Cost is going to be your biggest constraint for a very long time, just focus on getting a good 4* team working. Once you have this, you can start to tackle Arena, Frontier Hunter (when it's on), Raid RC1, Trial 1 and many of the easier Vortex Dungeons.

Don't be afraid to ask for advice, there's a lot to know about the game!

FAQ

Hey guys I just started and got some guy named Ziz from the Rare Gate, should I reroll?
If you never intend to spend a dollar on this game then rerolling is a good idea to make sure your early pulls from the Rare Gate are high-value. Rerolling is a pain and honestly, maybe 5% of what you'll get from the RS gate is bad enough to justify a reroll. Especially when you're starting out, any hero helps and with the power creep of a 2+ year old game to take advantage of, even a mediocre pull will still last you a long time.

How do I know if the unit's I'm pulling are good? Obviously rarity doesn't mean much...
Make sure you read the Unit Viability Tier (linked here again) list whenever you summon a new unit. Do a search and find where they are on the tier. If it's not on the list, it's either brand-new or so unbelievably lovely that it doesn't even warrant an entry :v:. Ask in the thread if you're not sure. When you're first starting out, any unit is good, but as time and unit space goes by you're going to want to start focusing on the good heroes to level up and evolve.

Don't get rid of duplicates either. They'll have much more value when the Achievement Store comes out so they can be traded in for points, while some dupes are desirable to have (e.g Lario, Rosetta, Arus, Rowgen, Lilith etc.) for various reasons.

Which starter hero should I pick? Can I get more of them later
All the starter heroes have 7* forms now, meaning that they'll remain relevant all the way through to the end-game. Ice Selena, Dark Magress and Thunder Eze would be to top picks as their 7* forms are extremely good. The other 3 are good too, though their 7* forms are not quite as powerful. Selena would be my choice. Starter heroes can be pulled from the Honor Summon Gate (rarely), or captured in their respective Vortex Dungeons (when they're open).

What kind of team works best? Mono element teams or rainbow teams?
There are a number of different squad compositions, each of which has pros and cons. Mono teams are better suited to elementally-weak content where the majority of the mobs being fought are of a single element too. Rainbow teams better handle a broader range of dungeons but can't put out the kind of damage that a mono team can (except in a few cases). It's much more common to run mixed teams nowadays, while mono teams are built specifically to handle a particular dungeon or quest. Crit teams are another type, which combine mono and rainbow squad principles with exploiting crit and spark damage.

Honor Summons give me nothing but crap, why should I even bother with it?
Honor summons are normally pretty lovely, meant to be used by total newbies to fill gaps in their squads. However, every so often a Super Honor Summon event is held where all of the lovely units in the Honor Gate are replaced with Crystals, Burst and Sphere Frogs and Jewel units. Hoard your points for when these events happen as they'll supply you with a huge amount of fusion materials. You can farm Honor Points if you have spare energy by starting the very first quest (start of adventure) with a friend unit and then immediately giving up. You get to keep the Honor Points. This is best done during a Honor Point Boost Event as you get 8x the normal amount per run.

My unit/item space is full/nearly full. Should I spend gems to expand my storage?
If you're a completely F2P player, you'll have to be stingy with your unit/space expansion. Unit space is almost always recommended over item space, as you'll hold onto units much longer than items. The bulk of the item drops you get can safely be thrown away if you're low on item space - Read the Item Guide which shows you what items to keep and what to chuck. If you're not F2P, I'd recommend spending at least :10bux: on expanding unit and item storage, it's a real quality of life enhancement. I have 340/180 unit/item space and even then sometimes it doesn't feel like enough. Don't just expand your unit/item space all at once is the best advice I can give, do it as you need it. The achievement store will be out soon (can't wait to read this in 6 months and laugh bitterly :v:) so there'll be a good way to recycle all those dupes taking up space into something worthwhile.

Where is the best place to farm evolution materials? If you say the Tuesday vortex dungeon for idolsPOTS you're loving dead.
Nymphs, Spirits, Idols and Pots can be found in the Tuesday vortex dungeon levels 1-4 respectively. You can also find Nymphs in Minstrel and Spirits in Morgan which drop pretty frequently. Idols can be found in St. Lamia and Cordelica. Pots can be found in Palymna. Idols and Pots have a very low drop rate. If you only need one type of Nymph/Spirit you can get them pretty easily farming. If you need multiple types you can get 4-5 per vortex run. It is not recommended to farm for idols/pots outside of the vortex dungeon unless you are really desperate. Metal mimics can only be found in Cave of Desires level 1 or 2 (level 1 is best, 9.1% chance to encounter at 10 energy, while level 2 is 10% at 20 energy) or they can be evolved from Bat Mimics using 1 Metal Ghost+King+God. Dragon mimics are found on level 3 (one guaranteed as a boss) and throughout the Quest Maps. Totems can RARELY be encountered during Quests, but otherwise must be farmed from the Thursday Dungeon.

Misc. stuff that didn't make it into the OP

Frontier Hunter and You
Frontier Hunter is a once a month event with 4 increasingly difficult dungeons and a scoring mechanic. You are awarded points for doing damage, and at the end of each round you are awarded bonus points for fulfilling certain critera (e.g use no items, one or three turn KO's) and based on your performance (number of sparks, total damage dealt, elemental weakness attacks, overkill damage etc).

The key to doing well in FH is leveraging these bonuses to amass a gigantic score by building a squad designed specifically to do 3 things: Sparking, element buffing and high hit counts. Something that may not be apparent at first is that actual damage output is fairly low on your priority list for an FH team. This is because you'll be throwing around BBs and SBBs to spark like crazy and you actually want enemies to survive until turn 3, since the 3-Turn-Knockout bonus is close to the One-Turn-Knockout in point value and the extra 2 turns allows you to squeeze as many hits/sparks/ele.weak attack in to really boost the bonus points. Turn 3 ideally should be all enemies at <10%HP and a team with full BB gauges to maximize the overkill bonus.

This little list shows you how the bonus points for meeting certain criteria works:

quote:

ESTEEM POINTS + FRONTIER SERVICE

The following actions result in more Esteem Points (Terminus values).

Attack bonus (total damage/25).
BB kills (3,000 per kill).
Multi-kills (10,000 per kill).
No items used (20,000).
Overkills (200 per hit)
Sparks (50 per proc).
Weak element attacks (50 per hit).
1st turn kills (50,000)
3rd turn kills (30,000).
Victory Bonus (10,000 per battle).
Survival Bonus (50,000).

In short: Don't let anyone die, don't use items unless you absolutely have to, kill everyone on the third turn, spark as often as possible, and do as much overkill damage as possible. This is how you maximise your score.

There's a number of teams you can build to achieve this, some more gimmicky than others, however they all still operate on the same principles of maximising spark/ele.buff/hit counts, just in different ways. What your team should be comprised of, roughly, is:
  • A BB generation leader - You want a leader who pumps your ability to spam BB/SBB - Rosetta/Feeva/Lario/Zelnite etc. Rosetta is probably best in slot, with a 30-hit BB and 20-hit SBB that boosts spark damage, and a LS that generates 1-2BC per spark for allies. Feeva is a solid choice and probably better for Terminus but it's debatable. Zelnite and Lario are if you don't have Rosetta or Feeva.
  • BB/Spark buffer friend leader - Once again, Rosetta/Feeva/Lario/Zelnite are among the top choices. Ideally choose one who you don't currently have as leader, two lario leaders are less effective than a lario and rosetta leader.
  • Element buffer - Someone who adds elements to allies' attacks. Shida is the absolute best in slot for this, giving every element buff on his SBB, with a 25 hit BB to sweeten the deal. Alternatives are Sola+Madia. If you can't buff for every element, then try something like a Fiora/Eve or Orna/Lucca to cover 4 elements. Quaid is another alternative.
  • Lario - Only semi-joking here. Lario is probably the most valuable unit to bring to Frontier Hunter. He buffs BC drops and hits 40 loving times on his SBB, and all the hits are nicely spaced so it sparks with just about anything. There's a reason FH is also known as Lario Frontier. Bring 2 if you have them. Failing that, you want someone with high hitcount BB/SBB but preferrably with not much else in terms of effects or damage increases.
  • Mitigator - Not necessary for anything less than Terminus, but mandatory otherwise. Shera/Darvanshel are the preferred choice as they do damage on their BB/SBB, but Narza/Oulu with do fine otherwise. If you're not running Terminus, use this slot to fill any gaps in your squad (maybe another high hit count BB/SBB unit, or a spark buffer etc).
The current meta team that can pull 2mil+ points in Terminus is Rosetta/Feeva Leader/Friend, Lario, Lario, Shera and Shida. You can swap out the second Lario for anything really, just make sure it has a good BB/SBB. I used the Marauder item set for the Fujins. My general actions per round were:

First Round:
Turn 1 = Fujin on Shida, Lario, Lario and Feeva. Shida SBB > Feeva SBB > Lario SBB > Lario SBB > rest attack as normal. Don't use Rosetta's SBB yet - spark damage boost will kill them too quickly.
Turn 2 = Shida BB > Shera SBB > Feeva SBB > Lario SBB > Lario SBB > Rosetta BB.
Turn 3 = Use Atk Pot on party (always on turn 3, never earlier), Shida BB > Shera SBB > Feeva SBB > Lario SBB > Lario SBB > Rosetta SBB.

Second to Fifth round is the same except obviously no Fujins (and no Atk potions unless you're forced to use a pure elixir during a round due to paralysis/curse, if you have to use one then may as well use an attack potion to boost your turn 3 damage). Remember that Rosetta's SBB should only be used on turn 3, the damage buff is too strong otherwise. Round Six is a bit different, but mostly the same - Turn 1 is the same, but on Turn 2 when she summons help you focus on the newly summoned unit. This way, by turn 3 Tia will be on low health and her first summon will be around 1/3rd HP. Use turn 3's attack order on the new summon and everything should die all at once.

How to refresh your friend helper list
If you have Trial 1 completed: Start a Trial 1 run (completed trials cost 0 energy to run again) then quit the battle. Viola! New friends on your summoner ally list. You can repeat this until the specific friend helper you want shows up.

If you don't have Trial 1 completed: Your best option is to start and quit out of Start Of Adventure. It costs 3 energy but it's the cheapest way to refresh outside of the Trial method.

Remember that it takes some time before a friend helper that you've used can show up again on the list.

Running Brave Frontier on a PC
If your mobile device sucks or you want better performance, you have the option of running BF on a PC through an android emulator. I recommend AMIDuos as an emulator, though I've heard Windroye is also quite stable and fast. AMIDuos is the best of the lot, with superb performance and a streamlined setup process, but has lousy support for multi-touch gestures such as pinch-zoom (though is being implemented ASAP). Genymotion lets you have more control over the kind of device you're emulating but it's somewhat slow and prone to crashes, though it's multitouch support is the best by far.

Setting up AMIDuos is as simple as downloading the package here, and installing. Once it's done, the program starts automatically. You'll need to install Google Play Store (located here) by right-clicking the zip file and choosing "Apply to DuOS". The play store will be installed and then you can install Brave Frontier. Alternatively, AMIDuos comes with the Amazon Marketplace app preinstalled, so you can also install the amazon version of Brave Frontier to take advantage of the discounts that often run on amazon coins.

AMIDuos is free for 30 days. A license costs :10bux: and is absolutely, totally worth it. Even though it's an emulator, it has full access to hardware functions so it kicks the poo poo out of any actual mobile device by a mile.

Marketplaces and how Gem purchases work
Since your Brave Frontier account is tied to a Facebook login, you can play across Android/iOS devices without an issue. However, something that is not apparent at first is that :siren:Gems purchased in one marketplace (App Store, Play Store, Amazon Marketplace) do NOT appear on versions of the game running on others:siren:. If you buy gems while logged into the iOS version of BF, you won't see or be able to use them on Android/Amazon. Gems that aren't purchased will show up across accounts, just to make things more confusing. Keep this is mind if you want to take advantage of the discounts that Amazon put on their coins quite often, you'll have to spend them while on that device/account.

Since the SBS drops are evolution material, you can expect that they'll show up every few months, usually coinciding with a rate up of the SBS units. (As an example, since Zedus, Ultor, and Tridon were in the last rate up set, the Grievesnare/Cyclaw/Hydraloid SBS stages went up. This was also the case with Fei and the Fang event, though that one is far less common, having only come up at Valentines Day when Fei/Fang was released, and just recently. That reminds me that I should try and grind out a Fang, but :effort:)

I just now got an Almighty Imp Arton from the level up rewards. Is it a bad idea to fuse him with Colt? Will I lose the +stats upon evolving or maybe colt isn't worth keeping as a leader eventually so I should save him?

E: the images are good, you won't have to scroll past them once the thread gets to page 2 and people who are reading the OP for information certainly don't mind big pretty pictures.

You see, the other raptors and I have constructed a crude suspension bridge to Venezuela
Colt is good and has a 7* evolution so imping him is not a bad idea. You don't lose the stats when you evolve a unit, nor do you lose extra sphere slots if you sphere frogged them.

Colt appears to give a 60% crit buff on his BB/SBB so unless you have Kira and don't have Claire he's going to work just fine for you for a long time. I'm only just now replacing Duel-SGX with Colt for my crit buffer (went for Colt instead of Kira since I have Claire) so I imagine Colt can fill that role for you for a good long while. Even if an upcoming batch has a better crit buffer it's unlikely to be enough to matter. Imp stats and sphere frog unlocks are not lost when you evolve a unit. Keep in mind that lower rarity units have a lower imp stat cap, so don't go feeding dozens of imps to a 5 star unit. Japan got a "you can't feed this imp because the unit is at that stat cap" thing months ago but who knows if/when Global will ever get it.

Save burst frogs for their final form because BB level is always cut in half when a unit is evolved.

e: If you have Claire you definitely should use Colt because if/when Gumi adds their Extra skills you can use Colt+Claire on the same team to give them a big boost to stats, then toss them each a Malice Jewel and their stats will be through the roof. My anima-type Claire with just a Malice Jewel and the ES active with Colt in the party should put her up to about 13500hp (and around 4880def) before adding a 2nd sphere (ihsir's or heresey) or any leader skill boosts. If Colt's leading the team that's another ~2500 HP she'd get from his LS.

It's nice Oulu won't be completely passive anymore but that UBB is loving hilarious. Though I'm not sure I'd use Oulu or Altri when I have Elimo (though I might level an anima one up instead of my guardian that's lvl 100) since Elimo's 7* will be your one stop shop for healing and mitigation unless you simply have to have the 75% damage reduction for future content, which I'm certain will be the case.

Correct. It's not the end of the world if used them, but each time you evolve a unit, their current BB level is halved. As an example, evolving Colt from 6* 10/10 to 7* would leave him with 10 BB/1 SBB, whereas evolving him when he's at 10/1 would drop him down to 5 BB. Thus, it's more than a little wasteful to use Burst Frogs on units before their final evolution.

Great job with the OP. I'd probably add that the gems don't switch over from google store/iOS/Amazon and that if you play through Amazon, you occasionally get access to their sales, rebates and other free poo poo. There was a promotion a while back that refunded 50% of your Amazon points when you purchased gems that allowed a bunch of us to get literally hundreds of gems for free.

No Brave Frontier OP is complete without the awesome Japanese ads though.

Narza is going to be a lifesaver until you get Elimo into her 7* form, he's probably the best pure mitigator out there (though some people prefer Shera/Darvanshel for damage with their mitigation). That said, Narza + 6* Elimo makes 6* Rigness kind of redundant, given that Narza's BB/SBB has the same status prevention effect as Rigness's SBB, but really we have no idea how long it'll be until we get the next batch of 7* upgrades, given that Gumi hasn't even released a way to get Legend Stones yet.

It's also worth collecting the materials for both your 6 and 7 star evolutions for Colt this week if you can since the super honor summons will let even new players get enough XP to level a 5-6 star form and possibly max out a 7 star form's level as well. The teamcost for a 7 star unit is high but it's worth dropping a 4-5 star sub if it means having a 7 star unit/leader on the team.

Plus 7* Colt is +150% crit damage (like Kira) and 30% hp/rec and his BB/SBB will put your team at the crit cap, letting you throw out a ton of damage even if you don't have a +spark (especially Claire) or +attack unit to further ramp up your damage while running with buddy Elza/Rosetta/Feeva/etc to bring on the BB spam.
