Oh cool, they're bring EASHL back but you won't be able to use your player for drop in matches - OTP is going to be the same as it is now on Current Gen.

Why EA, why?!

Got a few games in on a pubbie team yesterday, game felt pretty good outside of some camera fuckiness. Its nice that you can't dangle around everyone, passing and team work looks to be really important which is good but also frustrating as my Sniper was bobbling soft passes everywhere - going to pick a playmaker instead next time I play and see if that feels much better. Can't really comment about the hitting although I did notice a distinct lack of any of it in the games I played.

Game desperately needs a drop in mode though.

For anyone curious on the current skater stats for each EASHL/OTP build: http://imgur.com/a/EPGmV

Thanks for these – I went maximum try hard and pulled these into Illustrator and created a grid so I could compare the Attribute breakdowns for each player build.

I went even maximer tryharderer and collated this info into a spreadsheet with filters and poo poo that you can all view here: http://tinyurl.com/EASHL16Builds

Incidentally it looks like PWF / TWF are the best all round builds depending on your preference for scoring or passing, Snipers could be excellent but they are literal glass cannons and you should never ever under any circumstances pick an enforcer.

I've actually had some solid games as a DFD and like it as much as TWD. I'm not sure how much to read into the "numbers" thus far for the builds.TWD certainly handles and passes better, but I wouldn't call DFD a liability, you just can't try to thread ridiculous passes like in years past.

I would be interested to find out what the full attribute sheet is/was for each class as well. PWF has supposedly the 2nd best shooting ability, but I'm betting thats all in slapshots because I can get bombs off with them if I can get time and space to wind up but my wrist shots are all soft and useless - Sniper the opposite.

From a bit of experimenting yesterday playing with a Sniper, shooting off the rush isn't the auto goal it was most times in 14 and it seems that cycling really is everything in this game in terms of generating consistent chances - cross crease and dangles are pretty much out.

For those unsure on how to set this up - its pretty easy:

On the left side of the ice (mirror this for doing it on the right hand side)
1. LW (in this case the strong side wing) sets up on the half boards by the hash marks
2. RW (in this case, the weak side wing) comes from behind the net and sets up on the end boards right around where the Trapezoid line is
3. C (in this case, and pretty much always, the high man) sets up in the high slot, usually top/inside edge of the opposite circle

4. Weak side wing gets the puck and skates up the boards towards the LW
5. LW skates towards the slot/top of the circle
6. RW passes to LW, C starts to slide in to the back door / low slot
7. LW gets a shot off, C drives for rebounds

Obviously if this was on the other side of the ice, LW and RW swap positions so that LW becomes the guy down low, RW the guy on the half boards. Equally if the first shot misses or ends up in the opposite corner, the C makes a good puck retrieval man either to take the strong side wing position or to hold it up and dump it back round the boards to the otherside.

In terms of setting up off the rush, it seems to work pretty well if the winger carrying it in to the zone fires it around the boards (and then drives behind the net) to the other winger who should be driving down the opposite wing - they then pass it back behind the net and boom the cycle is set and ready to go.

If you want to watch 20 minutes of a team destroying another with this tactic to get a better idea, you can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0N7Deo26lA

One thing that continually pisses me off is when I hit R2 to call for a pass, but the dude passes it a fraction of a second before I hit it. When my guy gets the puck he automatically just flings it straight down the ice. :argh:

If you've realised you've done hosed up, hold L1 it should cancel the pass. Same if you're charging a pass and realise its not on any more.

The key to winning Faceoffs is to always use tie up and hope that your wingers are paying attention.

E: Any idea if this patch has actually made a difference at all to lag? I probably won't get chance to play EASHL to the weekend.

To be fair, EASHL is a pretty excellent beer league simulator what with people being unable to skate anywhere with any kind of control and all the flubbing of easy passes and shots.

Thats pretty funny, I like that.

The CPU D man getting pinned behind the net off the face off is ultra predictable by now - I'm pretty convinced its supposed to be the AI trying to start a breakout and getting overwhelmed by pressure from human players. Its pretty easy to counter though. If I'm the board side winger I'll just skate to the corner and call for the pass before he reaches the boards, or if I'm the slot side winger I just skate to the opposite corner and do the same. Seems to avoid it most of the time. Conversely if its an attacking faceoff, both wingers need to be driving from both sides to retrieve the puck, center goes to the slot, pass out, goal.
