The pawsting business is tough work.
Boston
June, 2015

Boston glimmers under the summer sun. Gentle waves lap against the skyscrapers of old downtown, and the sunlight makes the abandoned buildings shine like mirrors.

The tanks parked along the coastal 95 embankment are still and quiet for the time being, conserving their fuel. The country may have been brought low by the Second Impact, but it'd take more than the end of the world to get the United States of America to surrender control of its armed forces in totality to the United Nations. Still, can't spend jet fuel like they used to.

Further out to sea, drones circle. Their controllers are hunkered down on the roof of the aluminum hulk of the Federal Reserve building; though NERV shanghaied the old Fedwire trunks, the building itself is still Federal property, and the 14th Division's signals teams love the place.

Sierra 3, loitering a few miles to the southeast, is the first to notice. The grey box with the half-leaf logo bolted to the tiny machine starts going nuts. The drone's operator, back in Old Downtown, has her feed blank out. The signal is relayed down the tower, and then further underground.

At the terminus of the signal, NERV-1's command center, a cacophony is unleashed.

"Signal from the OP! It's here!"

"MAGI's on it."

"Position is.. grid November Four-Three."

"Hmm... get me a confirmation. Somebody kill the alarms."

"Mike Three-Eight! It's fast!"

"Coming in now, sir."

"...Two up, one down. Seventy percent match to the data from HQ."

"Only two?"

"Yes, sir."

"...okay. Sortie the EVAs. Notify the Directory that as of 14:13 local time, we have engaged with the Fourth Angel."

The command staff scatter, jumping to their combat tasks.

As should you! Please put your character sheet in your first post, along with what you've been up to within a dramatically-appropriate timeframe. Your post should end with the launch of your Eva into the downtown bay.

Dylan James

"Yeah, Mom, I gotta let ya go! They need me out there! .....I love ya too! Bye! Geez, finally, some action!"

Dylan had been in the middle of his weekly phone conversation with his mother when the call came out. Dylan skates his way to the launch bay, quickly changing into his plugsuit and getting into his Eva.

"Alright guys, everything good? Cool! I'm gonna knock this Angel outta the park like the Bambino!"

After preparations are finished, EVA-03 is deployed into the downtown sector. "Let's rock!"

Curses from all directions!
Hannah Asagiri

She had arrived early this morning, flown in hours before the sun would rise. While the boxes with her belongings would be taken to her quarters, (which she'd learned were in some out-of-the-way sub-basement) her NERV Special Services handler from Nevada, Lawrence, had informed her that after she had arrived that she was to report to the Creche for testing. Consequently, Hannah had spent most of her morning in an LCL tube while scientists and engineers prodded and poked, comparing her data against that of her original design.

Lawrence wasn't there by the time she was done. He was being promoted to Attaché to the Golgotha Base Liason and had to leave shortly after entrusting her to the NERV-1st Creche team. No one had talked to her, and a technician had simply handed her a passkey, map, and NERV manual (this would be the fifth manual now. She didn't know why they kept giving them to her. They were always the same.), and pointed her in the direction of the MIT Annex. Consulting her map, she passed through two checkpoints and encountered a number of other NERV personnel as they went about their own business.

The finding of where she would be living was no problem, and actually seemed to be in a not-all-that-bad place. Certainly better conditions than Nevada. Sliding her passkey through the slot, the door opened with a click and the dark haired girl was greeted by a wall of cardboard boxes, each emblazoned with the half-leaf logo of the NERV organization. "Gods in his Heaven, all's right with the world," they all boldly proclaimed. Hanna sighed, resigning herself to spending the next few hours unpacking. She was supposed to be introduced the Operations Director at eleven-hundred. She'd better get busy.

That's where she was when the alarm went off. Dropping the shirt she was folding, she glanced at her map and raced out the door.

Hannah was immediately and obviously recognized as a pilot when she got to the EVA pens, and in no time at all she had gotten into her plug suit and hastily made her way along the gantry way towards her entry plug. She hadn't seen any other pilots. Was she the only one? All around her technicians scurried while loudspeakers declared things like "connections have been released" and "flywheel rotation stopped". Two others helped her clamber into the entry plug, sealing her in while she got seated. The flood of LCL that followed was something she had gotten used to long ago. Then there was a lurch, and the brief feeling of descending as the cylinder was inserted into the back of her giant EVA-06. She felt faint tremors as it's armor closed, and it's umbilical cable was attached. The interior of the plug came alive with vision and sound, Hannah's connection with the outside world was restored. The technical communications resumed, informing Hannah that no problems were detected in the A10 Interface System and that LCL levels were nominal.

As she and her EVA were slowly moved back towards the launching platform, Hannah thought it odd that she hadn't yet heard from whoever was in command. Of course it wasn't her place to question anything like this, but it was still a marked change from most of her other sorties. Further thought on this matter was shuttered as the platform rumbled and screamed to life, rocketing Hannah upwards! Turning her eyes upwards, she watched blast door after blast door open before her, the last of the series revealing blue sky above. This was it! She braced herself for the hard stop! Her EVA's head snapped level, and Hannah scanned the horizon, curious about this latest threat.

Franklin's already there. Why wouldn't he be? Every new Angel means another few episodes, another ream of comics, another few hundred million to blow through. More bedazzled fans, maybe a movie deal. Also, something involving defending the Earth. Probably not important.

He'd been occupied with a gaggle of fans. They weren't allowed on NERV property, obviously, so they took the chance to crowd him whenever he was outside of headquarters. The Angel had come as a bit of a relief, actually - there were only so many girls trying to touch his hair that he could take. Jesus. Even after the end of the world, people wanted celebrities. Crazy. Oh, well, give them what they want.

The plugsuits sucked. LCL smelt like crap. But there was nothing like the moment the sync happened, when you and the Eva were one. Also, all the extras he'd added, on request. There had to be a soundtrack for every fight, and he'd picked a classic, as always. It auto-lowered the volume when battlefield communications were going on, but nobody was going to stop him using something that kept his sync rates up. As the catapult hurleshim to the bay, he grins and rolls his neck, the EVA copying his motion.

"Hey, gang. Mind if I take point?" Got to be in front, look like the leader. Cameras were probably on him right now. What else was there? Oh, yes.

Morningstar, go. He raised the Eva's fist and pounded it on his shield, the boom reverberating through the summer air like a thunderclap.

She hates the eyes on her as she leaves most of the adults in the dust. If they have time to stare, she thinks, they have time to press on and get better. Speaking of, she rises- time for some bench pressing.

Then, of course, the alarm goes off. Well. LCL is like a shower, right? Rabah is at the changing room in minutes. She'd memorized routes to it from anywhere else on the base. Plugsuit on- it was a little weird to be wearing such a tight-fitting outfit after years of fatigues, but it was like the wetsuits for the frogman courses. Mission Critical.

Then, quick visual check of 04 (mostly pointless, but it's always worth taking the extra few moments since anything you spot visually wrong is generally capital B Bad) and then into the plug.

"Iowa here. Ready on your orders."

Wilson and James are in high spirits as usual. Rabah makes note to make sure they don't get off mission. Then, with a minimum of fuss and a three word acknowledgement ("04 launched, over") she sides seamlessly into the city.

Dr. Laboe

The door to the command room slides open, abruptly, and in walks Dr. Jenny Laboe, a few stray leaves of paper scattering in the draft. She reaches an empty console, slams down a folder overflowing with essays, dons a headset, and sits, eyes glued on the screens.
Pilots are coming online. Sync looks fine. James, Wilson, Iowa, good, good... ah. The new one, Asagiri. Just flown in. Jenny had read her files, of course, but there wouldn't be a chance for a session first. Would be an interesting source of information, but she usually preferred being able to meet with the pilots without forming too many preconceptions.

A dozen possibilities flick through her mind. She needs to say something, just to indicate she's here, so she can jump in later if things go south. She needs to help Asagiri integrate into the group... but James and Wilson are high performing, they wouldn't want the spotlight taken away, and all indications from the files suggest that Asagiri is fairly reserved.
She hates this. She knows she's overthinking it, when she should be able to handle it naturally, by rote, but that's just because it's still so far outside her training, expectations. You don't say the same things to children you do to soldiers. Or, at least, you shouldn't.
She knows the pilots are given fairly wide leeway in terms of how to approach and engage the highly variable Angels, and that the commander's going to be giving pretty general orders in a second, so she just sighs, leans back, and taps the headset.

"Pilots, Laboe here. You've got a new friend, Hannah Asagiri. She's had plenty of practice and experience out west, but until we get settled with some maneuvers I'd like Asagiri and Iowa to stick together. Alright?"
Iowa has a good head. Reasonable tactics, usually keeping a lid on James and Wilson's stunts, personalities mesh with Asagiri well enough.

"We've got some more firepower, and from what I'm reading here first indications are that everything's going to go just fine. Keep steady and we'll be golden."

Pax and Noah

"Pax? More like Spaz.", one of the boys says, turning off across the soccer field. Noah squints a little with his eye as he looks up, watching Pax's leg move back as if readying to kick the ball right at her would-be tormentors. He stands up, closing his tablet, and walks over to put her hand on her shoulder, shaking his head. As she shoots him a defiant look, he just looks past her, over to the black car pulling up. Following his gaze, she just kicks the ball away half-heartedly, and they both make their way over to the vehicle.

This, of course, makes them unfashionably late into the entry plug, Noah still fingering his collar and making sure it's flush as the plug is flooded. "Hm? Things must be bad if they're mustering up the civilian pilots.", he says dryly once his lungs acclimate." Pax sits behind and above, going through the pre-launch process habitually. "Ah, they probably just want to make sure they get field experience, right?", she adds more hopefully.

Noah frowns. "As long as they stay out of our way." Switching the communicator on, he calls out, "Unit-02, ready for launch." With a crackle of lightning, they're launched upwards through the base, breaking swiftly as the LCL compresses momentarily. Their headbands at least keep their flowing hair away from their collective pair of eyes. With the channel opens, he says dismissively to Franklin, "Whatever, sure, just keep hiding behind that shield and keep yourself safe." That kind of smugness, though, is broken up by Pax popping up on the line and asking Dylan: "What's the Bambino? Oh! Did they give you an experimental weapon?"

Hannah Asagiri

The communications crackled to life, with little windows popping up featuring little visuals of command and her newfound peers. This sort of jockeying banter was a new experience for Hannah, and although her first instinct was to impress upon them the dangers of such approaches she remained silent. She was the new one here. Perhaps their way of doing things was working for them. (Although she would still have to inform them of better approaches in the future.) After someone named Dr.Laboe spoke up, introducing her and recommending a course of action, Hannah's reasoning somehow felt justified. Doubtless she'd get to meet these people in person later.

"Hey there," the girl cheerfully introduced herself, immediately adopting a more business-like tone for acknowledgement, "as you wish, doctor."

Asagiri urged her Evangelion forward, each footfall rattling windows and shaking the ground, "do you have an ETA for our target?"

Angel Attack
Taggable: Keep steady and we'll be golden!

Colonel Jagr's voice cuts through the comms.

"One and a half miles from your position and closing fast, Dylan. You can hold the baseball history until you all get back."

Jagr clears his throat. The former professor's got a good voice for lecturing, and it gives him at least a little gravity when it comes to paramilitary operations intended to decide the fate of mankind, sometimes.

"I won't insult your intelligence by pretending you don't know what happened to Headquarters. We're forewarned, and there's five of you to the two they had at Tokyo. More than anything, we all have faith in you as pilots. You wouldn't be out there otherwise. I'm turning you over to Commander Adams now. We'll see you all soon."

Adams' voice is less reassuring. She holds the whip, and she's never hesitated to let you know if you gently caress up one of her plans. "Adams. Unit 02, front and center. Traverse to the tether station at Logan. Unit 04, move to Winthrop; 06 to Castle Island, opposite the channel from 02. 03, you're in the channel. We've got a tether beacon lit up down there. 01, plug in at at the Bunker Hill Bridge point and await further instructions."

Adams plan puts Pax and Noah knee deep in the water, standing over the old airport and roughly center in the entrance to the bay. Rabbah is to their north, a little less wet but further away from the concentration of infrastructure NERV's built up around the city core. Hannah is across the deeper channel from the twins, stationed in the middle of an old park. Poor Dylan is up to his Eva's waist in the sea, which impedes his mobility - hopefully this angel isn't any better than he is at swimming. Franklin is put way, way back, defending the main launch tubes and the easiest access to NERV itself. If you had to guess, she wants Pax and Noah to make first contact, with Rabbah and Hannah available to help, while Dylan blocks any kind of direct shot at the guts of the branch.

As you start toward your assigned positions, the feed from one of the offshore drones pops up in your HUD. It's the Angel. A host of readouts identify it as the Fourth Angel, blood type blue, general height and mass estimates, generally clouding your view of the thing.

The Angel is kind of human-shaped, if you squint and you've got head trauma. A pair of legs extend downward from its trunk, which goes from approximately humanoid to a lumpen mess near the shoulders. It looks almost like someone dumped two radially-symmetrical sets of ribs and shoulders together, with four long arms radiating out from the center. It's black and glossy, except for a white "face" in the center of the tangle of arms. The face looks like porcelain, with four eyes around a vaguely beak-like protrusion. The thing breaches out of the sea and angles in toward the city, and your positions. It walks with a limp, hunched over so it can face you as its arms bend inward, sporting too many elbows for comfort.

Adams comes back over the radio. She sounds more irate than usual. "04 and 06, disengage from your tethers in sixty seconds. You have independent action. All pilots: be cautious when flanking the Angel. I suspect the arms mean it's not got a directional focus."

Command Center

Jagr clicks off his headset and lets Adams take over. As the tactical officer rattles off her instructions to the pilots, Jagr unbuttons the collar of his uniform jacket and blows out a sigh. He looks down the command structure to the second tier, where Jenny, Adams and a few of the other crew are. Jagr smiles at Dr. Laboe, clearly aware of how winsome the expression is on him. "How'd I do?" he says, leaning over the upper deck.

Dr. Laboe and the pilots can all act to discover facets of the Angel's characteristics. How you do so is up to you. For the time being, I'm going to say you'll discover stuff with a success, and you'll get to invent something with an extraordinary success.

Thanks to the close ties between the Evas and your mind, you won't need to make any kind of piloting check for anything up to mild acrobatics and ordinary combat. Diving tackle or sliding into cover, A-OK. Making your Eva do a standing backflip might require a check, though. If you're not sure, go ahead and ask.

Dylan is not yet affected by any kind of condition related to being that deep in the water, but it is a possibility if the Angel rolls well.

Franklin is totally getting told to sit down and shut up. Hmmm.

Hannah is quick to comply with her orders, grabbing a pallet rifle from her launch site's neighboring bunker and setting off for her intended destination even before the Commander finishes her sentence. In transit, she zooms in on the image of their advancing adversary. She had faced a similar foe before, though not with quite so many limbs. She had destroyed it in the end, but it was an end for her as well. She understood all too well how quickly the smallest misstep with an Angel could lead to disaster. She would not make a mistake like that again.

Castle Hill wasn't a place that Hannah was intimately familiar with, but upon her arrival there she discovered the ruins of an old fort, as good a vantage point as any. Taking up position, she waited, it would be just a few more moments before the Angel was in range. When it was, she used the gun to probe the Fourth's defenses, firing off a few rounds to see how it would react. She still had a few more seconds before obliging Commander Adams and moving in to directly engage.

Using Combat to probe the Angel's defenses/create an advantage? 4dF+4=6 (I am also assuming grabbing a random pallet rifle is okay, because those things always seem to be scattered all over the place. If not, I'll totally apologize and rewrite this!)

She trails off, watching the monitors.
"Hopefully none of them die today. We need to establish at least an initial assumption of and confidence in survival. Also, Adams, I know you have your plans, but Wilson's morale depends significantly on his self-image as a star. If Iowa and Asagiri's initial assault gets repelled, as I'm expecting it will, my suggestion would be for them to fall back and have Wilson move forward on a combined assault with James. Establishing a rapport between the two would be helpful, and the connection will be much stronger if it happens on the field. Neither one's been willing to open up in sessions, so I've been looking for ways to crack the shell."

That'd look good on the newsreels - Morningstar standing on a hill, watching a fight. Fantastic. Well, Commander Adams was probably going to see a paycheck reduction soon. Then maybe he'd see some action again, where his shield was of some loving use, and where he ought to be.

Comms on.

"Moving to Bunker Hill Bridge plug point."

Franklin goads Eva-01 into action, the white-gold titan slowly backing up towards the bridge with shield raised. Sometimes the Angels spat lasers, or breathed acid. Better safe than sorry. He has to unplug partway through, but the bridge plug point was only a short way beyond that.

"Point reached. Awaiting further orders."

Comms off.

"Assbite."

Franklin raises the shield and plants it - a little too heavily - into the ground. Oh, well. If he was defensive duty, then nobody was going to out-defend him.

Let's Create an Advantage with Combat here. Presumably the difficulty is pretty low, because there's nothing really opposing Franklin here.
Create Advantage with Combat: 4dF+4 5

Gonna name the Aspect "Gotta Go Through Me" to represent that Franklin's defense of the bridge. Presumably it will go away if Franklin has to disengage or moves from his position.

"Roger, commander. 04 disengaging from tether on mark 3. 2. 1. Disengaged." Rabah is smiling a little as the rust orange and purple bulk of Unit 04 moves into action. She'd been too hasty to judge the commander- this is exactly the sort of firm hand needed if anyone was going to survive these engagements. Though, with Wilson's tendencies, it might make him more likely to act the fool...

Speaking of fools, Rabah almost curses herself. She's being paired with the new arrival- they need to establish a plan, now, or this will all go to hell faster. Especially with Asagiri (imported from Tokyo-3? she wonders briefly) as an unknown quantity. "Asagiri," she pipes up. "Ready up- we'll do a simultaneous charge on my mark if the Taylors require assistance. Taylors, inform me when you intend begin the attack. Asagiri, remember that we're on reserve power and have a limited operational time."

Rabah grits her teeth a little. It irks her to be waiting on an attack while under a time constraint- father was definitely more a fan of lightning warfare. "Thus, though we have heard of stupid haste in war, cleverness has never been seen associated with long delays," to quote the classics... but defer she does. Adams has a plan. Right?

I wanna be a saikyo HERO!
Pax and Noah

Unit-02 crouches down to waist-deep in water. It's not likely that a little water is going to to provide much concealment against an angel. "I don't like this, it's like it was designed to handle numbers.", Noah comments, before Pax pulls back on the controls. "You think it's thinking things like this? 'Boy, there sure are a lot of them, how am I going to deal with them all?!'" As Unit-02's left sling opens, sheit draws the pallet rifle, bringing it into position. "Well, we know it doesn't go on talking about nonsense like you do.", Noah jibes as Pax squints, bringing up the targeting. "That's cold, bro.", she adds back dryly.

"Hold.", she says simply to the other pilots as she aims. Then, she fires off a long burst, not really aiming per se. The rounds tumble through the air, and though they're enough to punch through a car individually, bringing the angel down isn't the intention. Instead, each bullet packs a sensory package, trying to build up a "map" of the angel's exterior and interior... though a premature AT field activation on the monster's part may stymie the whole very expensive gambit. Noah pokes at the interface, trying to make sure the data gets sent back to HQ. "Gimme a core, Noah.", she says, as the emptied clip falls to the water with a tremendous splash.

Noah frowns, and then says, "We'll work it out on the way! Let's go!", as he pushes the controls forward, kicking up enormous waves as he starts a run towards the angel. Pax is surprised for a moment, and then moves in tandem moments after. "Beginning the assault!", she calls out, and then tugs on the controller, moving another clip in as they rush forward.

Their roll is 3 to analyze the angel with Notice, but let's blow a fate point to activate Experimental Parallel Pilots to raise it up to 5. Oh, and moving towards the Fourth Angel.

The visuals in the little window that popped up informed Hannah that this other girl was named Rabah Iowa, but the way she looked suggested that Rabah wasn't thrilled about being paired with her. That was understandable, the pilot of EVA-06 supposed, in Boston she was as yet unproven. Of course, if this was NERV-1st's fourth Angel, then this meant she probably had more experience than the rest of this team combined. That was fine. She wasn't going to ruffle any feathers. Not on the battlefield. Nor afterwards. She wasn't in this for the glory. If things went south, Hannah was resolved to carry them the rest of the way. If things went really south, well, hopefully a newer, more capable Hannah would be waiting in the wings. Ideally this would not be the case, however.

"As you wish," she agreeably replies, assenting to the plans of the pilot of '04. Upon being lectured about internal reserve power limits, Hannah smiles warmly, "of course."

Hannah fires off a burst from her rifle. The Angel watches her aim, then swings its arms with blinding speed to cover its "mask." The bullets are mostly harmless - why do they keep issuing these things? - but now you've got a good idea of the monster's defense priorities.

It's a long, long way from the bridge to the edge of town. Really dull back here in Franklinville. Whole lotta watching, not a whole lot of doing. This sucks. Adams sucks. This is crap!

Poor Dylan, meanwhile, is nearly underwater in the old shipping channel. He's found his power point, so at least he's not going to run out of juice any time soon. Of course, it's going to be hell getting out of here if there's a rush.

Rabah and Hannah's position on either side of the twins meets with the militaristic pilot's begrudging approval. It seems like this new girl knows what's she's doing, at least. More than you can say about the others, even the command staff.

Meanwhile, the Angel's gotten wise to exploratory fire. It sees EVA-02's rifle tracking it, but it drops to all sixes and starts scuttling along the bay floor, surprisingly submerged in the shallow waters. The sensor rounds skip harmlessly across the sea or explode beneath the surface, bringing with them the flash of an active AT-field.

The twins soon find out what the beast can do anyway. It moves with a sudden burst of speed, rising up before them - it's even taller than an Eva! Four almost humanoid hands lash in, battering EVA-02's armor. Only Pax and Noah's ability to multitask is keeping them from being immediately overwhelmed by the multidirectional onslaught, but if they don't adapt to this thing's fighting style soon, they won't last much longer!

Command Center

Adams goes back to monitoring her feeds. Meanwhile, Jenny has her cockpit feeds to watch.

Rabah and Hannah are doing well, considering they're children fighting a building-sized monster - vitals are stable and show few signs of stress. Dylan's not doing too well, but he's down in a pit and nearly up to his neck in the sea. Why did Adams put him down there, anyway?

Unsurprisingly, the twins are nearly in perfect sync, both with each other's biologicals and sync ratio. Increasing heart rate, with a spike as the Angel lunges, but they're okay so far.

You might want to have a word with Franklin after the battle about his language. Of course, you don't have to share the recorders with Adams. That might even be unprofessional. Why, it could even damage Franklin's public persona. Of course, sometimes the public likes the badboy image... Still, the poor kid is getting worked up in there. What can you do about it, though?

Hannah places Forewarned is Four-armed. You know how the Angel fights back.

"Agreed, Iowa. Dropping umbilical," Hannah's declaration is accompanied by the sound of a distant decoupling, "Watch is yours. I'm advancing on target. Iowa leapfrog in 15; I'll take the watch then."

The gargantuan EVA-06 is already a good ways out into the water as the retro-thrusters on her discarded umbilical cable fire to slow it's descent. She should easily be able to be through the deepest part and onto the sunken Logan plain by then. The inside of Hannah's entry plug is bathed in red, a timer counting down the minutes and seconds of reserve power she has remaining. Given their relative positions, and how the Angel was engaged directly with the dual-pilot EVA, the raven-haired Hannah did not expect much in the way of impediments or dangers when it came to closing in on their target. But Rabah's caution was not undue, Hannah knew. Just so long as the pair in EVA-02 didn't pay the price for it.

"If we can disable or restrain the arms, it will make striking at the body and finding the core a whole lot easier," Hannah observes, phrasing things in a dramatically more casual fashion, "four arms. Five of us."

As she draws closer, although it's difficult to see through the churning waters of EVA-02's skirmish with the Angel, Hannah still endeavors to take even more stock of their foe now that it's engaged with an EVA point blank. Even the smallest thing could be a significant advantage!

Using Notice to discover more Angel facets! 4dF+5=3, but Hannah will invoke 'This Is What I Was Born To Do' to raise this to 5! Also, for the record, I had to google what a bounding overwatch was.

Taking a few hits before it reacts, Eva-02 catches a fist, blocking the other strike and turning it aside. In an instant, one of the fourth's other limbs is kicked aside with a stomp, before the twins vault into a spin kick that strikes several of the the angel's limbs aside, keeping them at bay. Their multidexterity is pretty amazing... and also amazing that it's only bought them a second or two. Pax and Noah simultaneously wince with the effort and the impact, keeping the whole evangelion in constant motion.

Well, spending a fate point for Per Ardua Ad Astra to raise their Combat to +6, and 5 is the result. So I'll take my free invoke of Production-Model Dual-Type Evangelion, which should raise it to a total of 7. The angel will have to live with a boost, maybe something pertaining to damage on Eva-02?

"We'll get out of your way!", Pax calls out over the comlink, and with a crouch, they leap up, looking to flip right over the angel with the Eva's agility. As Noah takes over the leap, Pax targets, hailing fire down towards the enemy as they aim to find themselves on the opposite side and out of easy reach, in order to keep angel under three interlocking fields of fire. Or that's the plan, as these things go.

Trying to create an advantage with combat: Three-Way Flanking Maneuver, with a total roll of 5. Well, glad I shored up combat, at least.

Hannah watches as the Angel attacks the twins, viewing the scene with a certain level of detachment. The Unit-02 pilots are probably a little too busy to notice, but she can see the Angel isn't just attacking - it's probing their defenses. If an attack is blocked from one direction, the next comes opposite that way. The spin kick is absorbed, almost literally, as the Angel flexes like something without bones during the hit.

The most consistent thing the Angel did was to start off an attack with grabbing at one of Unit-02's limbs or a protrusion in its armor. Hannah strongly suspects the Angel is intent on grappling with its opponent, and it's only Pax and Noah's dual-focused defense that kept them from harm.

"Try to keep out of it's grasp! It's trying to latch on," Hannah says over the comm channel as EVA-06 smashes against the monstrosity's AT field with her free hand. The field physically manifests as a series of glowing octagonal shapes, slowing down Asagiri's progress. The irony of engaging such a foe at point blank while cautioning against the dangers of doing so wasn't lost on her, but hopefully Iowa would only be a short ways behind! With numbers and teamwork, it was an acceptable risk. In the distance she could already see Dylan's EVA-03 en route as well.

Making the most of it, Hannah focuses on a singular arm! Sure it had three others, but tying up a single one increased the odds of the others succeeding in their mission! EVA-06's hand strained against the Angel's AT Field, twisting and trying to tear through! With her other hand, she presses her Pallet Rifle against the strained field and unloads a series of shots point blank against the offending limb!

Using Combat to Create An Advantage against the Angel by attempting to disable an arm. Because its AT field has already stopped things, she's invoking her Field Savant stunt to add another +2! 4dF+4=5+2=7!

Dylan does his best Vietnam reenactment as Unit-03 heaves up out of the channel, water cascading off the giant machine as it sprays rifle fire toward the alien invader. Given his low angle and the distracted target, the pallet rifle rounds actually manage to do something! For once.

Meanwhile, Franklin's comms open. Commander Adams is not happy. "Wilson, request denied. Return to your position. You are under orders, and you will follow them."

Nor is the Angel happy. Unit-02 is not crushed! It lashes out with all four arms, fixing one hand to each of the Eva's limbs. It shifts pack, attempting to haul the Evangelion off its feet and into the air!

----- technically this is the start of a new round so Hannah acts now, and everyone else gets their shot.

Hannah's dire prediction comes true, but she's not having any of that nonsense. As the monster is distracted trying to power lift Unit-02, she gets in close and savages the Angel's AT Field. Chunks of unfathomable monstrosity fly out of one of the Angel's shoulder-analogs as Unit-06 lays into it with heavy firepower.

Dylan attack 4 vs (- - - _ + 4) 1, Angel takes 3 stress.

Planning time is over. Killing time is now. Rabah begins her charge the moment Hannah makes contact with the Angel- additional pallet rounds at this point would just create the potential for friendly fire, seeing as they don't appear to be doing anything from this range.

Though grabbed, Unit-02 struggles fiercely. Both twins pull against the controls, trying to make it that much harder for the angel to wishbone the Evangelion, but it's a foregone conclusion as long as you think of the Evangelion just as an extension of the self.

"Blow plates 31 though 33, and 44 through 47!", Noah calls out, as Pax blinks, and then locks a control as she calls out, "Confirm order. Blow restraint plates 31! 32! 33! 44!..." Externally, the restraints around the shoulder and elbow on Unit-02 fly off, revealing something darker and more flexible underneath. As Pax moves back to the control, she shoves it forward swiftly, the limb bends, and then twists in a way that isn't quite u. Pax winces, her eyes tearing up. On a human, this would be a dislocation or something worse, and the feedback is intense... but within tolerable levels. So far.

We have a defense of 7. The angel has a boost but not the full advantage.

The limb goes back to one of the Eva's pylons as it opens up, and Pax calls out, "Deploying progressive knife!" Though the angel is lightning swift in trying to bind up the limb again, Pax flips the knife, slashing at the disabled arm. Another comes right in after, but as the whole Eva leans forward, she shouts, trying to pin the other limb right to the angel's body at an unnatural angle as the "freed" limb twists its elbow the wrong way. "Don't mistake us for ordinary humans, you oversized octopus!", Pax shouts.

Adams turns from her console just long enough to give Dr. Laboe a look of scorn.

Out in the field, Rabah presses her attack while the Angel is busy trying to tear one of her friendlies apart. Occupied as it is, it can't properly defend itself, and its AT Field is little use against an active aggressor like the young Spartan. The pallet rifle crackles and spatters Unit-02 with Angel bits.

Dylan's fire is well-targeted, but less successful than Rabah's. Perhaps it's the range, perhaps it's the angel, or perhaps it's because the Angel can see him more easily than it can see her, but the monster's AT Field flares into life around it where the waterlogged rounds strike. Still, that was a good shot. Maybe one more will do it...

Franklin, showing a stylish disregard for his teammates, opens up with considerably more abandon, but if you fill the air with enough slugs the size of phone booths, something's bound to stick. The Angel begins to shrink behind Unit-02, trying to use the Evangelion as a shield from the torrent of damage heading its way.

Which turns out to be a poor idea. Unit-02 is briefly covered by the smoke of detonation before it plows through the cloud, wrenching its own arm so that it can escape the Angel's grip. The Evangelion drops back to its feet, slashing again and again into the Angel's flesh, nearly severing its wounded arm. The prog knife rips up into the exit wound from Rabah's attack and travels up, tearing off part of the thing's "mask." Underneath is the ruby red heart of the beast - its core.

But just because the thing is horribly wounded and squealing doesn't mean it's out for the count. The Angel's arms go limp, almost like tentacles, and it wraps itself around Unit-02, drawing in on itself, threatening to crack the Eva's armor. Inside the cockpit, the pain is intense.

As it is in Franklin's cockpit. The pressure of the LCL in Unit-01's plug shoots up rapidly, threatening to rupture the boy's eardrums and tear up his lungs from the inside. Above the sudden ringing in his ears, the voice of Commander Adams is omnipresent and angry.

"Pilot Wilson." The transmission is relayed to all the pilots. "Your punishment will continue until you return to your assigned position."

In the command center, Adams leans back from her console and crosses her arms in front of her. Her gaze is calm as she watches her monitors. Above, Colonel Jagr's face is drawn, but he makes no move to stop the torture.

I'm sure that's going to help the cause immensely." It took a lot of willpower not to throw a "bitch" or something afterwards - there WERE some lines he wasn't allowed to cross, after all.

Creating an Advantage with Provoke against Commander Adams:
Create an Advantage with Provoke: 4dF+5 7

Will use the free invoke of "All Eyes On Me" to make that a +9. Sticking it to the (wo)man!

Curses from all directions!
Hannah Asagiri
FP: 4/5 Physical: OOO Mental: OOOO

Hannah had done her part, just one gear in part of a larger machine. Having allies was an entirely new experience for her, and it wouldn't do to meddle now when the conclusion was foregone.

"Other than 02, everyone should withdraw to a safe distance to minimize EVA unit damage," the raven-haired pilot calmly remarks over the communications channel in sharp contrast to the screams of Pax and Noah. It was almost over, barring a dangerous twist. But even in case of an unexpected twist, a safe distance still wasn't such a bad plan, "these things sometimes like to explode in the aftermath."

The distance Hannah herself settles would probably not be called safe by the standards of Adams, but it would be safe enough. Turning to face the direction of EVA-02 in its moment of triumph, she doesn't even bother raise her pallet rifle.
