I never cared for his super midrangey tone, but he was part of something that is nearly impossible in modern music: unique sound + superb musicianship + sense of humor + mass appeal = success Plus I always liked that twitchy thing he did with his hand.

In the Primus song "Over the Electric Grapevine" there's a reference to the Faith No More song "Introduce Yourself." FNM's (2nd) lead singer was Mike Patton, who also fronted Mr. Bungle. We need more threads of 80's/90's bands that reference other contemporaries.

Only Primus fans know that Primus sucks. Add Geezer Butler to that list of awesome bassists. Can't forget the Geeze.

I posted in the Mr. Bungle thread so I feel like I should post here as well. I was a bit too young in the '90s (1990-1999) to be able to appreciate either band, but I did go see Primus in 2004 maybe on the tour after their hiatus. The concert was cool. It was like 3 hours long and there were no opening bands. I know a few of their songs and if someone asks if I like Primus I would probably do that thing where I frown slightly and nod my head and say something on the positive side of neutral like "oh yeah they're cool." I will say for certain though, that little descending figure in the bass before the chorus of Tommy the Cat is pretttttttttttttty baller.

I'm listening to it again and it's not right before the chorus like I thought it was.
