Fojar38 posted:so why do the desires of the russians overrule the desire of the ukrainians Like you should never forget that the current leader of Ukraine, Poroshenko, is an extremely loving sketchy character, and if he was your head of state you'd be pretty dubious about the whole thing. He had the supreme court fired when he was about to go on trial for dipping his hands in the till as a minister, and some of his parliamentary allies are the kind of antisemitic trash that would get nowhere near real power in Western Europe and the US. Everyone involved in this whole thing is horrible, including the Russians, and NATO and the US trying to swing their dicks around is against the interest of everyone in every single member state, as well as the Ukrainians themselves, who deserve better than the same oligarchic merry-go-round as ever being supported by more than half of the world's combined military spending. imo e: Chomsky's obscurantism is indeed lame. jBrereton fucked around with this message at 15:17 on May 27, 2015 |

Saying noam chomsky is obscuratanist is like something you'd hear in a gen X slacker comedy. He's the opposite of obscure. There's nothing difficult about chomsky. The op needs to sit down, eat a slice of pizza, and be quiet.

Beef Turret posted:Link a single example Cf., for example, N. Goodman The structure of appearance (Cambridge, 1951), pp. 5-6. Notice that to meet the aims of grammar, given a linguistic theory, it is sufficient to have a partial knowledge of the sentences (i.e. a corpus) of the language, since a lingustic theory will state the relation between the set of observed sentences and the set of grammatical sentences; i.e. it will define "grammatical structures" in terms of "observed sentence," certain properties of the observed sentences, and certain properties of grammars. To use Quine's formulation, a linguistic theory will give a general explanation for what 'could' be in language on the basis of "what is plus simplicity of the laws whereby we describe and extrapolate what is". (W. V. Quine, From a logical point of view [Cambridge, 1953], p. 54). Cf. 6.1 Tell me that isn't torturous and mainly unnecessary to restate as he does.

It's really sick that he supported the Khmer Rouge, I live in Massachusettes where a bunch of Cambodian refugees ended up and you don't need to go far to find stories of people who were trained to fire a gun and recognize land mines instead of learning to read and write (my favorite is a guy I work with that now engineers satellite equipment for a living, though his emails can be real hard to read sometimes).

Accepting "bureaucratic blunders" in letting a known terrorist into the US as an actual excuse? Really? 6. Obviously the terrorists themselves are not victims, Chimpsky's point was that citizens from countries subject to US hegemony (Saudi Arabia in this case) orchestrated the attacks.
