Yeah The Specialists was incredibly fun, I miss that game. Cool maps and great action. The kungfu servers were fun too, even though autistic nerds got mad if you won by spamming the back kick

yo everyone one of my fav HL single player mods was Half-Life: Chronicles - Episode One and it was sweet as hell and added a kickass M4 rifle that was like a precursor to the HD texture pack M16 it was one of the earliest things to try episodic content and by the production values you could tell a team of actual pros developed this plz someone tell me you remember this also CS 1.6 knife-fights were the greatest and I would roleplay I was Bennett from the hit 1985 action movie Commando

CSGO is decent as well. bad company 2 (not source) also had good hitreg after you spent about 10 hours getting a strong "feel for it" tho I felt BF3's hit reg was way worse. NS1 definitely had a bout a million times better hit reg than NS2 (mostly because flayra is an idiot). in general yeah, source is pretty bad and really bad at handling more than like 16 people or any movement where people move fast. i bet if you were to play a goldsrc game, it'd have a lot worse netcode than you remember. i know i tried them about 4 years ago and they've aged pretty badly

I think the magic of goldsrc's net code is that you could pick your server instead of being matchmade and there was a high chance of there being a full server with like a 20 ping right near you at any given time

I liked Action Half Life despite only having played with bots. It was pretty much the only game to try and ape the Max Payne feel in a multiplayer setting. Sometimes it worked (akimbo diving) and sometimes it was a double edged sword (slowmo slowing down for everyone)

For Single-player Counter-Life was great. It was essentially counter-strike weapons in the bog-standard half-life game, all weapons drops and ammo drops were money, and HEV/Health stations were buy points. Moving down vortigaunts with dual elites was tons of fun.

Lol I'm remembering the total salt from the opera and ahl communities when the specialists came out, they loooooved to talk poo poo about the specialists even though their games were stiff and janky as gently caress There was a lot of hilarious cross game drama between those three communities, I miss the days when not only was there room for three different action movie games to flourish but they would all talk poo poo about each other too

One of the pre-beta maps was essentially the hangar and airfield scene from the beginning of the movie and I remember the last time I watched face/off recognizing a couple of sound effects that the devs jacked for ts
