Transracialism was already a thing, it described the things children adopted by parents of another race deal with. It is not cosplaying as another race you desperately want to be.

You really shouldn't read The Atlantic unless you're actively seeking out bad opinions on things. Even though the tan white lady with the fivehead is the president of that thing I'm pretty sure the issue isn't that she "looks black" or wishes that she were born another race, but that she completely fabricated her past life history/experiences. It upsets me that The Atlantic article seems to just focus on her "challenging the concept of race" as opposed to you know, her being a unrepentant liar for years and years and that she actually made a career out of it.

I think it must have been some kind of extreme "emperor's new clothes" situation where she thought she was fooling everyone and everyone knew but nobody wanted to be the first to say anything.

This gets even better now that it's out that she sued Howard for racial discrimination because she was white (in2001) http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/bizarre/rachel-dolezal-discrimination-lawsuit-786451 quote:According to a Court of Appeals opinion, Dolezal's lawsuit “claimed discrimination based on race, pregnancy, family responsibilities and gender.” She alleged that Smith and other school officials improperly blocked her appointment to a teaching assistant post, rejected her application for a post-graduate instructorship, and denied her scholarship aid while she was a student.
