They can be as cliché, underground, or popular as you would like. The point of this thread is to get some new watching material for me over the summer.

I'll start: Bladerunner: The Final Cut

Classic, timeless, thought provoking: Bladerunner is in my opinion the granddaddy of cyberpunk films (and games/animes: looking at you Deus Ex and Ghost in the Shell) and has (for me) limitless playback value.

Zardoz https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbGVIdA3dx0, because Blade Runner and A Boy and His Dog have already been mentioned.

I linked to the trailer, you can rent it for a couple bucks, but the DVD is worth buying if you like director commentaries. Lots of awesome Sean Connery stories, and descriptions of how practical effects were done.

And here's a clip from a podcast describing why you need to watch Zardoz https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc3xDjs3kFs

Wim Wenders' epic Until the End of the World? It has everything - great soundtrack, beautifully shot. A 6 hour movie that somehow feels too short.

Halfway through, I went to fix us both a coke float.
By the time I got back, he'd gone insane.
Plus, he'd left the gate open and there was evil everywhere.

No, it's probably John Carpenter's Escape movies. I liked a lot of the movies in this thread, though. Doomsday is another interesting one, as is Book of Eli (sorta).

I like the movie, but if that's dystopian, all films set in the Soviet Union are dystopian.

I dunno if we're just doing movies or if TV shows are allowed too, but Black Mirror is awesomely dystopian, particularly episode 2 of series 1, AKA 15 Million Merits. There's a real, palpable feeling of utter despair throughout the whole thing.

I watched the first episode and didn't really care to continue. Should I continue on, or is it in the same vein?

I understand why people don't like it. It's very character driven (aka boring), and if you don't pay attention, you miss important plot points. It's based on a Phillip K Dick novel, so it's well matched to the source material.

I enjoy the poo poo out of it.

Echoing the previously mentioned Escape from NY/LA by John Carpenter. They are both great.

Also check out They Live by John Carpenter. It spawned a great photoshop thread and also includes the best fight scene ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJC4R1uXDaE

THX 1138 Is a bit surrealistic but a great movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hLXOVCZr-8

I have to recommend at least one Arnie film, so check out The running man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ceegnWSENQ

The last one I'm gonna recommend might not be the best movie but it's fun and I'm fond of it. Probably because it's one of those movies that I saw when I turned on the TV at like 3am when I was younger and couldn't stop watching. Johnny Mnemonic. It's got it all. Cyborgs, Keanu Reeves and a phsycic dolphin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwl5MBzTCRQ

e: Also Brazil is a seriously great movie, just make sure you find the correct version, it's important. There are like three different ones. The correct one is the Terry Gilliam version (Director's cut?/Criterion?), the 142 minute version I believe.

Stake Land was pretty OK. I mean it's clear the writer/director was super into Elmore Leonard and Near Dark, so if those two things are up your alley then you'll probably like it. I think it didn't get enough attention because it came out in 2011, when both Vampires and Post-Apoc were pretty played out. The director is pretty well regarded as far as undergound horror guys go, and his other gritty crime western was well received, but "horror western post apoc" is a pretty slim genre.

Streets of Fire is totally rad. A lot of people classify it as post-apoc (certainly moreso than Blade Runner) but I think the movie's own self classification as a "Rock n Roll Fable" is pretty spot on. It's a very classic western plot but in a post-apoc steel town setting and with a general 80's music theme.

Six String Samurai isn't a good movie, but it's popular with B-movie people for a reason.

Stake Land came out right around when Zombie land came out and it's almost the same movie minus the comedy. Stake Land is as if Zombie Land and The Road had a baby.

It should probably be noted that no episodes part the first one are built around somebody loving a pig, if that's a help. But to be fair the third season isn't out on Netflix yet so take that with a grain of salt I guess.
