It is pretty easy to disrupt an industry when you just ignore all laws and regulations.

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY DOG
- disrupt law enforcement costs by selling ultra low quality single-use guns for 99 cents each, except don't call them guns, call them dispute resolution utility devices
- disrupt the entertainment industry by brokering desperate college students willing to sell sex acts to anyone who's willing to buy except relabel 'sex' as 'consensual gratification activity'
- disrupt commercial waste management costs by providing a network of dudes in pickup trucks who will haul your toxic garbage 50 feet in any direction away from your property and dispose of it, no questions asked

That TrashR is a pretty good disrupt. The garbage cartels are almost as bad as the taxis.

I like how Uber had surge pricing after that terrorist attack in Australia.

Even better Uber had multiple Google employees on their board of directors so Google already has insider info on the company, Silicon Valley is a pretty incestuous place.

Self driving cars in urban environments arent even possible without layers upon layers of interdependent technologies that introduce countless complications and catastrophic scenarios if any one of them breaks even for a second. Algorithmic autonomous city driving isnt feasible without friend of the family-rigging it somewhere, like having some onstar type tech guy in a room driving them through the most difficult scenarios (most of urban driving)

Explain the algorithm by which a self driving car obeys a police officer directing traffic at a broken 4 way traffic light, but ignores the drunken hobo gesturing similarly at your car at the next light. Or what if theres no cop and only the broken lights, or no cop and only the broke lights and the hobo. Aint no way to do it cleanly. Enter deus ex machina tech guyus, independent contractor of course.

ironically the only world in which an automated car would work would be one where no cyclists or pedestrians are allowed in the same places as cars. so we end up with the suburbanite dream of cities devoted entirely to the automobile and those lovely lieberal retards confined to the underground.

you don't need that algorithm, because presumably the car wouldn't be completely self-driving, you'd be able to intervene if human judgment was required. sort of like when you make toast and midway you realise you set the timer for too long and you know, you can turn it off.

Google has a prototype without a steering wheel. Im saying this version is not possible. There will be a human driver interacting with it somewhere if they go ahead with it. Autonomous highway driving is simple enough so they have succeeded..but to conflate that with city driving etc..get outta town. I have no authority in these areas, just driven a lot in my life so ive got an opinion on how many discretionary decisions go into driving around.

you don't need police officers if you make driving your own car illegal besides for random scans to make sure nobody is illegally driving themselves, the car will get updates from the police department on road conditions and respond accordingly. you will never pass a law like that in a billion years, but it's not completely impossible to see a way around it. cyclists and pedestrians are harder but the probably simplest way to handle that is just to have the car stop as soon as a human traveling in front of it or potentially doing so is detected. of course, that's abusable... and you'd probably handle it the same way you'd handle some jackass standing in front of your car in the driveway, call the cops and have them come by or get out of the car and handle it yourself
