Im pretty sure the loaned the site/tracker code out to a bunch of people who then help host the site independantly across the world. Also they've switched new torrents to the magnet format so you don't even have to download .torrent files from their servers, it's just like a hash code you click and your client reads now

yeah this

so if a country 'shuts it down' it's still being hosted from 90 other spots

really it is a testament to how much money gets futilely wasted trying to fight piracy.

gumption and can-do spirit, like what america used to have before the socialists and second-placers took over. i real winner's attitude and a go-getter's grit that's gone missing here in this once great land. a strong back and a willingness to work hard and a very strong desire to play elder scrolls v: skyrim without paying for it, qualities that you don't see much in this america in this patriot's opinion

this

also according to a 'secret information' from someone who worked on their servers, they just use VMs for everything and back them up daily. That way all you need is 3-4 XenServers and you can handle it. e: by this I mean that it's a simple process of buying a server and copying the VMs to it. also the magnet linking helps and cuts out the middle man. when they get shut down, they just move the VMs and they're done.

also this:

But there's also money to be made in stopping it from being up! Also from trying to stop it from being up and failing at it repeatedly, you get paid every time. Also in legislating around it, talking about it, writing articles and papers about it. You can make money a lot of ways is where I seem to be going here. And yet I'm so poor!

Sometimes people will thank you for providing them with links. Doesn't seem like much to me but some of these people are fairly popular and whenever it is two in the morning and a favorite show hasn't been uploaded since airtime yet the people involved get awfully sad.

If you have never seen a candlelight vigil held in the comments section of a streaming site I heartily recommend it.
