I had a lot of fun playing a year ago during the summer alpha, but I haven't really played since then. Is this still a problem? Or was it never a problem and I'm just bad.

I think I read somewhere that they're adding more CC this time around.

I'm really enjoying this game and am glad to hear that devs are going to tinker with the silver grind.

I'm at the point now where I am going to need to go into red zones to gather mats. I have not been in a red zone yet and have a question or two: if I get player-killed in a red zone I lose all my gear including mount, correct? If so, how are people recovering from a loss like this? It would cost me about 25-30k to replace all my gear/mount, which is basically me out of the alpha to be honest. I'm a giant carebear but I'm willing to go into PVP zones as long as a death doesn't mean I'm down for a week of grinding to get my stuff back.

We can get you into T3 gear pretty fast. There's plenty of it laying around and almost everyone can craft it. The mats dont take long at all to get. T4 is a little slower but around.

Mount loss blows atm cus goontopia is literally north korea and in a perpetual food and resource famine so no one took the proper time to get into mount crafting. I figure another week and mounts will become more disposable.

All in all, if you don't want to risk dying, you're going to have a bad time in Albion.

4 days into the game I literally lost every single thing I owned trying to bring out mats to goontopia for limitless crafting. I lost my $100 ox and horse and 3 days worth of gathering and crafting in 30 seconds. I was down and out for a day or so, but after that I was fine. You'l live. I dont think anyone will experience what I did.

Is there yet benefit to sticking to a class of armor, or does a mix of clothplateleather still trump all else?

Essentially as it stands right now you want some sort of mix. Nothing is set in stone, because alpha, but the most recent sperg analysis cites that the combo of armor + resistances from cloth gives you a good mix across the board.

I'd say until we start seeing what the meta is after they actually adjust the weapons to be somewhat balanced, this is the best way to go .

Seems to me fame needs to be cranked way, way higher or just straight up give everyone a ton of unlocks or something. Right now the idea of having as much stuff unlocked as you'll have after just a few months of regular play is impossible, so while it's been theorycrafted as much as possible there's no full scale testing of "what happens if I have THIS mix of armor with THAT weapon?" At most people are getting to try out a limited few combinations and basing the testing on just that with no chance to try others for themselves, having to rely on what the other guy says about his build.

Yeah - I think it would be wise of the devs at the end of beta to almost give everyone full unlocks for a week just so everyone can try out some more of the end-game poo poo. They have such a deep skill system, but I feel like we're only scratching the surface. I don't want to find out later after playing the game for a few months that my build is completely awful because no one ever really got there yet.

SumYungGui posted:

Might be under the circumstances of looking for PvP specifically? I wander around solo digging/chopping resources quite a lot and frequently come across a paradox guy doing the same solo or some other guy. Sometimes we fight, sometimes I'm gathering wool and he's mining ore so we just run past each other.

They need to get rid of flagging IMO, but add some more hindrances against PKing and groups. They took the wheel on trying to get rid of zergs, but they can't just implement some lovely aoe mechanics etc and call it a day. If they want to have this weird rear end dichotomy of 100 man guilds being whiddled down to 5v5 fights for territory, yet make the game mandatory to roll with massive gank squads, it's their responsibility to tweak it until it works. Or get rid of it.

I stopped playing because career things, but from what I've gathered in alpha, it seems everyone else feels the same way.

5v5's trivialize guild warfare and pretty much put all of the hardwork of an entire guild at the hand of a small group. It's anti-sandbox and anti-guild.

Flagging is stupid and useless.

Otherwise, I think the game has a load of potential.

If the current 5v5 system remains, I’m (sadly) not really sure how long I’ll play, since I’ll probably be sitting on the sidelines for any meaningful PVP. Open PVP and Guild-focused PVP are the things I've always loved about MMOs, and if i wanted to do 5 mans, I'd probably just play LoL.

This is a major turnoff for me. I feel like this game is supposed to be PvP oriented, yet it's such a task to find meaningful PvP.

5v5 is a good idea in theory, but in practice you're leaving entire guilds (and it's hardworking members) at the mercy of 5 people. It's stupid as gently caress.

Flagging is also a nightmare.

if this game were a real sandbox this could happen, and it has it prev. sandboxes.

They just have too many anti-sandbox things implemented and that's what makes it so weird. You have a sandbox/territory scheme yet you only let 5 people fight for it. You have full loot PvP but you have a flagging system that makes you have to decide if you want to PvP rather than just respond to different guilds/situations. You have loving game implemented wall hacks for large groups.

But it was still garbage in the end, and just became more unplayable the higher your rating got and the more metagamey everyone got with the game balance (sound familiar?).

5v5 being core to the Guild v Guild mechanics in a sandbox game? :captainpop:

Right like - 5v5 Arena had its loving place. You made a team, and the only people affected by the outcomes of your 5v5's versus enemies was your team. You didn't lose your 5v5 and in turn lose your entire city you poopsocked for weeks to build.

There is plenty of ways to implement 5v5. The single most core mechanic of guild warfare is NOT that place.

Territory depends on 5v5 and that is total poo poo. Almost nobody out of an entire alliance of people had anything to do with the fights, and it sounds like those that did partake had a poo poo experience anyway. (who could have seen that coming, 5v5 in MMOs has never turned into un-fun spergy metagaming wankery reserved for only those with the fullest of poop socks) I'm happy to hear the official guild position is "gently caress that" because it was a god drat train wreck that ruined alpha for us.

Ideally they'll make having territory come with minor bonuses that are basically conveniences at best. Should be something to make up for paying the food and upkeep costs but forcing the entirety of the player base to partake in 5v5 because one hand is giving out bonuses you must have to keep up, then bitch slapping them with the other hand because only 5 people get to do it is a recipe for failure.

I still don't even loving understand what he said in regards to 5v5. What was written was so incoherent, I'm still very much turned off by their lovely attempt at fixing the biggest problem with their game.

I keep saying it, but it's for good reason: it frightens me to see that no one hardly mentions it on the Feedback forums.

Interesting point on the lack of large guilds. I guess I was focusing more on the familiar guilds I saw participating in Alpha than the amount of guilds that I've never once seen before. "Wow, look its XX guild from Darkfall, and XX guild from Shadowbane" instead of "Wow I have never heard of any of these nerd rear end RP guilds".

I guess I need to come to grips with the fact that the reason I was attracted to this game is not the same reason for others? I miss the nostalgia of occasional huge alliance battles, and heart-pumping small group PvP battles out in the wild. In this game its the polar loving opposite.

The mercenary hobo idea does sound pretty good too, so there is that I can look forward too. I guess that's just not what my dick was hard for in the beginning, but I'm all for new nostalgia porn if it means pissing off nerds.

He just doesn't get it. We are the players, we went through it. His loving dreams are not reality. It's not how it actually works. I love how he says "Most importantly: Don't forget that you only fight over your own territories this way. The castles are normal sieges with as many players as you want. The whole world is open PvP!"

ONLY your [hard earned and pilled over] guild territories! He's saying it as if that's not the single most important aspect of this loving game...
