agreed one of my software engineer buddies just got tattoos that can't be hidden unless he is wearing a long sleeve shirt which is okay I guess so far but he doesn't believe me when I tell him he is potentially locking himself out of future advancement. He says 'nah bro times are different now' but I don't think so.

Do you live in the 1950's or something? I mean sure if it's like a face tattoo or a image of a swastika made of ejactulating dicks on your neck then it might stop you getting a job but tattoos aren't really taboo anymore. Even my mom has a tattoo and she's about as counter culture as sliced bread. Which is why the people who use to be tattoo people are now getting into stupid poo poo cutting huge holes in their cheeks because no one is shocked by tattoos anymore except like the Amish and Orthodox Jews (and being able to form a airtight seal with your mouth is for suckers).

Nah I meant like he doesn't see the big deal as in very soon he is going to have hand/wrist tattoos and that you won't be able to hide unless you wear gloves all the time like a loving weirdo. FreudianSlippers posted:Do you live in the 1950's or something? Shocking? Nah. Makes the old white people in charge think you are a dumb kid or not serious? Most definitely. Especially in professional fields. It isn't the fact that you have a tattoo, it's the fact that it is visible. The same guy had to take out his facial piercings before anyone would hire him, it is largely the same. Except a tattoo is permanent. Yeah he makes $75k/yr but I don't think you're getting on the fast track to promotion with a visible tattoo is all.

You are potentially locking yourself out of future advancement You don't work at my company, dude. They're cool with it as long as... Very soon you are going to have hand/wrist tattoos and that you won't be able to hide unless you wear gloves all the time like a loving weirdo. Wait, what? Why do you even...? Yeah you make $75k/yr but I don't think you're getting on the fast track to promotion with a visible tattoo is all. Really? You sure are a great friend! Glad I have you around to tell me these things. A tattoo is permanent

ScratchAndSniff posted:You are potentially locking yourself out of future advancement lol okay buddy the white guy getting an Aztec Sunstone on his forearm and in his first real job ever is definitely the correct party here And I mention the hand/wrist thing because as I said I already asked him specifically about that and he said he doesn't care and at some point will probably get some work done there. If you can't see how a hand tattoo in a professional office environment might not be the best idea then lol.

The only point of life is to get more money and a better occupational position than your peers, and tattoos hinder that goal, hth.

money and better occupational position isn't everything but it certainly is better than a loving hand tattoo lol

i never understood the connection between a tattoo and being able to sell some cheap product for some soulless millionaire but people do say it exists and it makes you incapable of whoring, yet most ~real~ whores and prostitutes have proud tattoos on visible parts of their body.

extra stout posted:i never understood the connection between a tattoo and being able to sell some cheap product for some soulless millionaire It's not that, it's the fact that half of the USA is irrationally conservative. Just look at any tattoo thread in SA, people come out the woodwork to say 'lol tattoos are all dumb people with tattoos are garbage.' Your corporate overlord knows that its public face needs to be as bland and as appealing to a wide market as possible (depending on the job obviously). Why potentially throw away a ton of customers just because the associate you're hiring has visible tattoos? Especially when there's no labor shortage whatsoever? Why put someone in a position of authority whose underlings might not be good cogs just because they irrationally think "tattoo=retard?" A. Beaverhausen posted:Could you be any more of an old lady? lol I'm sorry that old whites run most of the corporations I guess. Piercings and tattoos are more accepted than ever but the fact remains most jobs (even lovely entry level McDonald's jobs) require no visible piercings and covered up tattoos.

Why would an employer hire an employee with visible tattoos knowing this mentality exists instead of the other dozens of equally qualified candidates? Yeah maybe a visible tattoo won't detrimentally affect your career. It isn't going to help, though.
