Yes, buying games for pennies on the dollar is certainly better for game developers than just getting the game for free.

They should be happy for their pennies!

imo 60 dollars + that again for content already available on launch but hidden behind dlc or season pass codes is too much for 10-20 hours of entertainment. Maybe if the industry stop treating video games as summer blockbuster hits they'd be able to charge a price more appropriate for the product you are receiving. Indie games are good examples of this as often times they're 15/20 bucks on launch and designed with the idea of multiple playthroughs in mind, but they don't spend a bajillion dollars on cutscenes so they can do stuff like that.

Steam kinda shot down that theory, piracy became significantly less of an issue when the way games were sold drastically improved.

I have a huge series' of boxes under my bed with tons of old CDs and PC games and it is easier to download the ones I already have than it is to rummage around, find them, hope the CDs aren't scratched to poo poo and jump through god knows how many hoops to get them to work.

I don't feel morally obligated to give money to these people again since I legit own them, but if a company is good enough to offer digital copies of their stuff and makes it easy to purchase them without making me jump through the digital equivalent of those physical hoops I'd happily throw some more money at them.

If they don't well I don't lose sleep over getting the poo poo I own from a different source.

Also most artists make absolute peanuts on album/song sales. The actual money is in touring. This is why bands like Accept are still alive because they have a dedicated fanbase who attend their shows even though they probably haven't sold a CD in 20 years.

Piracy is actually kind of legal in Canada but absolutely no one talks about it at all ever. It's really funny on talk shows or documentaries when they talk about piracy because they always take the content creators side and talk about how immoral copyright infringement is, when in fact the law of the land is that it for personal and private use it's perfectly legal.

edit- apparently not anymore, but up until a few years ago this was the case. :rip: my outdated information.

You're still buying the games, though. Stand by your principles and boycott games that cost too much money!

Doing otherwise is tantamount to piracy.

It's easier to buy things now than it is to pirate them if you make a decent income. The pirates in the 90s were right. What I'm saying is, it's the 1% and the republicans faults that people still bother pirating things

You buy a game on steam you get the most current version right away, you pirate it you probably get the lovely release version and need to find cracked updates. I'm not saying it's hard, but it's still much easier to just get the legitimate version these days

most artists make little money on albums because there's a bunch of cunts stealing them. The amounts from digital sales are pathetic, 10-15 cents per itunes songs. If you want to support an artist, buy a CD or a dvd or a vynil, on which they make 30-50%.
Listening to spotify does not mean you support the artists even if you have a paid account. Which is why Spotify is on its way out since it's a bad idea to give away someone else's property.

The way Spotify works is this
let's say you are a fan of bandX. You have a paid membership, and you only listen to their songs.
Guess what, most of your money still goes to Beyonce, kayne and the rest of the assholes.

Spotify puts all the money in one pot and splits it between artists based on the numbers of listens. So even if you don't listen to commercial music most of your money goes to support that poo poo because a whole other bunch of assholes do.
So despite you buying an account to only listen to X band, they'll get maybe a couple of cents from your money.

Well, tv and movies still suck at it, but music is at least at the point where it's just as easy to pay for it as it is to pirate it, and in some cases you get the ability to play it from the cloud instead of having to anticipate your own dumb music preferences, so it even hits the point of being more convenient
