Yeah that is one of the high points in the album. Empty Spaces' transition into Young Lust owns bones too.

I'm sorry the movie is pretty much garbage though. I think part of my general dislike for the album before I listened to it last night were the memories of that junk.

the final cut owns but it's probably the biggest downer album known to man. if you can listen to the whole album and not become a depressing sack of poo poo who wants to kill themselves then you're probably a robot or serial killer or something.

I always skip Not Now John when listening to it because it's weird and poppy and upbeat and really breaks the flow of things.

Echoes is easily their greatest ever by a gigantic margin.

It's amazing that even their throwaway albums contain such genius. Like this is from the Final Cut

The best part is when he hits that big note and they blend in the saxophone and you can't tell where he stops singing and the saxophone begins.

and yeah, Empty Spaces/Young Lust is one of the handful of song pairs where when they play the latter song on the radio without the former I get pissed. Like when they play "You Really Got Me" without Eruption, or "A little help from my friends" without SGt. Pepper's. I'd include "Heartbreaker/Livin' Lovin Maid," except Heartbreaker is hands down the best LZ song so they never forget to play it.

And while we're talking about drug-rock opuses (opi?) my wife and I consider this to be "our song"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEZH0t5Yozw

See, she was pregnant with twins AND a basketball sized fibroid tumor. So thing were constantly stressful. One day, we drove to the hospital for her daily examination and this song came on that same station that plays all the long Pink Floyd songs. It's the only time we remember being relaxed during the entire pregnancy, and the song NEVER ENDED. Plus, I smoked a bowl beforehand so, yeah. Good song.

Their best song is over 20 minutes long and contains five minutes of seagull squawking and guitar screaming, and a lot of other good songs are still over ten minutes, so yeah basically. The funky organ part of echoes was used as the background music for the ads on my favorite classic rock station for a while though.

Then again, I was once listening to that station at like 3:30 AM while doing some late night analyses and they played all 45 minutes of Thick as A Brick, which was a nice surprise :allears:

Da,mn, I had a post where I agreed with this, and pointed out a L.A. radio station regularly plays 10+ minute pink Floyd songs, but I mixed up edit and quote and delted it, haha.

iirc, Thick as a Brick is just one 45-minute song, AND it was made as a parody of prog-rock, but Tull did so good that nobody noticed and everyone thought it was genius.

I know, but there is an abridged version iirc. It was supposed to be a bitter response to people calling Aqualung a concept album but it turned out great.

Animals is their best album if you're going to listen through an entire album rather than pick and choose different songs.

Dark Side of the Moon & The Wall are the albums most people hear first by them nowadays.

Wish You Were Here is good but overplayed as heck.

Meddle is p drat good.

Everything after The Wall sounds like corny 80s stuff imo

Their early stuff is pretty far out there and includes a lot of noise music.

Pink Floyd is a good band.

Yeah, until More (their third album), I'm dumbfounded as to how they had such great success. I also found Atom Heart Mother to be a bunch of noise, too. I own all their albums except Endless River, and all the other ones contain at least one song that crushes. Atom Heart mother Crushes at times, but at other times it's a horrifying din.
