Carter wasn't about that. He was too moral to cut deals with devils. But it's a world of devils.

He also had the charisma of Kennedy, and had good speech writers, so he gave them a hero they could rally behind.

Who else would it be? Nixon? Ford? Eisenhower is too far back.

Reagan had amazing speech abilities, natural charisma, wit and also came along when the Democrats were loving inept as all hell and drat near won all 50 states in his 1984 reelection. The only reason the Democrats came back is they went "OK, America now loving hates liberals so find a conservative lite from the South" and we got Clinton.

Ford is hard to judge because he shot himself in the foot for pardoning Nixon (not that he stood a chance anyways) plus he nearly lost the primary to Reagan so the only memory we have now is him falling down the Air Force One steps.

Nixon would probably be ranked higher (EPA, opening up to China and such were very good moves) if it wasn't for...you know, that thing.

Eisenhower? He'd be a loving blue Democrat if he was around today.

The republican party will never die because American politics are based on a two party platform. However, the Republican Party will (they have no choice) gradually drop traditional socially conservative views from here on out. The average person in this country simply does not give enough of a gently caress about gay marriage, abortion, illegal weed, religion, etc. to vote solely on these topics; especially in the digital information age. Social media has completely crushed the opposition to gay marriage within the last 11 years. In a way I hope all this is true so that economics & financial issues become the dominant face of politics again. Whoever earlier said that if the republicans were smart they'd recognize that this is a huge victory for them because people won't be voting against them solely because of their opposition to gay marriage anymore was spot on. Unfortunately, they're too loving stupid to take advantage of this. Instead, they're going to continue to scream about fags and out-of-wedlock & dead babies for another 5 years give or take until its political suicide for even attempting it. Once the 2020's roll around I think we'll be seeing some real changes in both parties.

why cant we just form household corporations instead of marriage

you know just incorporate in Wyoming an S corporation called the Smith Family, Inc (or whatever your last name is) and write out a contract that gives all members of the corp (all the women and men you are loving) shares and titles like Brother Husband and Sister Wife and then purchase everything through the corporation and give power of attorney to all members and basically have a family in the form of a company?

libertarians im available for hire

let me help you form your line family household corp "civil union"

or maybe you prefer the group "marriage" corp?

Nixon created the EPA. He also declared drugs to be public enemy number one, but if you read the speech and look at what actually happened during his Presidency, the majority of the focus and the funding was on treatment, not law enforcement.

A dumb racist who need to kill themselves
Nixon was the last of the Pre-CRA/Southern Strategy Republicans.

quote:

In 1952 and 1956, a majority of blacks backed the Republican Party. And Eisenhower gave them good reason to stay Republican. As soon as the landmark 1954 decision in Brown v. Board of Education was handed down, Eisenhower ordered desegregation of the Washington DC public schools. In 1957 and 1959, Eisenhower proposed strong civil rights bills to enforce the long-neglected 15th Amendment and give Southern blacks the right to vote.

Senate Southern Democrats filibustered the bills and succeeded in watering down their strongest provisions. And when the Southerners demanded that violators of the new civil rights bill have the right to jury trials (before all-white Southern juries), Democratic senator John F. Kennedy voted with the South, while Republican vice president Richard Nixon broke a tie in the Senate to kill the Southern amendment.

quote:

In Dec. 1971, Nixon's Labor Department required all federal contractors to develop "an acceptable affirmative action program," including "an analysis of areas within which the contractor is deficient in the utilization of minority groups and women, and further, goals and timetables to correct the deficiencies." In the decades that followed, government programs mandated a variety of requirements specifying preference be given to minorities in employment and in awarding of certain contracts.

I really think a lot of the issues that Nixon is most reviled for were RNC plots and plans that he got swept up in and he ended up taking the fall for as the highest elected Republican.
