Just once I'd like to see a mens rights movement focus on real male problems that kind of get ignored in modern gender politics like the rapid increase in eating disorders and steroid abuse in male youth over the past couple decades but instead it's always whining about holding doors open or paying for meals. There are plenty of legit gendered issues that affect men and are largely glossed over and the idea of a progressive group that focused on the kind of stuff that gets left out of the more woman centric feminism is nice but at the end of the day these groups always seem more anti woman than pro men.

I have yet to see a men's rights group that wasn't actively anti-feminism instead of actively pro-men's rights. Things like "what about how men can't report being raped without being made fun of?" and other legitimate male-centric issues are always talking points used to make MRAs seem valid but ultimately they're not doing anything to fix those issues, they're just flaunting them as problems that exist and are ignored by feminism (because feminism is sexist, you see). They have literally zero solutions to actual legit male issues other than pointing them out and using them as evidence that the patriarchy doesn't exist. Here's men's rights activism in a nutshell: A guy was sad once therefore the patriarchy isn't real.

I think it's a similar issue that could be addressed simultaneously but it simply isn't covered by modern social media centric feminism. I'm sure academics who study this for a life can manage consistent logic in how they explore these issues but when it gets out to the general public it always boils down to tribalism. Body image is a great example of this because for years and years we've had feminism talk about unrealistic standards of beauty and how they hurt women, shows with a sloppy husband and a hot wife are disparaged and using sex to sell is seen as objectification, but in 2015 we're starting to do the same thing to men (tallywhackers, shows like girls and the mindy show having frumpy leads dating model men, meghan trainor videos singing about body image featuring plus sized girls while the male dancers are all thin and muscular) and the same people and blogs that poo poo on hooters for being sexist at best don't even notice or at worst actively embrace or support it. We're in the process of dumping the same body image issues on men as we do women and it's completely ignored as an issue despite the trends in stats like steroid abuse or eating disorders showing it's a legitimate rising problem. I absolutely think there is room for a positive male centric movement but so far I've seen are negative anti-women ones.
