I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto

People live here

I always felt that an opposed point of view would be intresting to give, so well, here we go.

I am a retired soldier of Novorossiya Armed Force(Formerly LNR/DNR People's Militia).
I held the rank equivalent of US AF Seargant First Class.

I created this thread for a few very simple reasons. Number one would be providing the other side point of view on the current conflict and events, second, to provide at least some entertainment, because hey, I'm pretty much OPFOR for you people.

I will try my best to answer as much as I can save for anything that I deem to be OPSEC such as concrete adresses, names, numbers and everything such.
This story began summer 2014. I used to be a low-grade lawyer in Moscow, Russia. What I did was boring, uninspiring, useless. Always felt that way to me. When this whole thing started, I have been morbidly fascinated by the development of conflict. In July, I have started working on the humanitarian side, gathering medicine, foodstuffs, clothes for Donetsk orphanages. I gathered cargo, packed it, found a vehicle I could send it with and off it went.

In two months time I have also started gathering tactical equipment, camouflage, footwear for the militia. I have also began to establish contacts with a few active people in the militia.
Come jan 2015, after many trips to the republics, already holding a position as a civilian specialist(Supplies) I have realised that I cannot remain a bystander in face of ukrainian army atrocities, so I donned my gear, took my car and joined a UAV recon unit under the speciality of an operator, responsible for avionic and electronic gear onboard of the unit.

I have worked in both Luhansk and Donetsk republics since.

What do you personally think and/or hope Russia's end goal is here? Total conquest of the Ukraine? Forcibly annexing a few chunks? Installing a Warsaw Pact-esque puppet regime? Stabilizing Ukraine and withdrawing to prewar borders?

Honestly, I gave up trying to understand geopolitics awhile ago. Half a year back I would say it's limited assistance at the same level until DNR/LNR push UAF out to the region borders, after which it's another ceasefire and official, recognized secession of the republics. Now, with all the screws tightening I'd say it wants to freeze the conflict and let the republics remai na cursed bufferzone until hell freezes over.

As for ideal turnout I supposed, short of open intervention, I'd settle for more equipment. From low-level stuff to maybe functional tanks, repair kits, functional nightvision and comms. It would be an immense help.

I'll be going to the Donetsk region in September to document the war, do some research, and hopefully interview soldiers on both sides of the line. Do NAF soldiers respect American passports enough to leave American journalists alone, or is there a fair chance I'll end up like Simon Ostrovsky for a week?

I'm not sure whether I will be going back to the frontlines any time soon. In any case, even when I do, most of the risk comes from either mortar fire or diversionary groups. We never get closer than three kilometers to the frontline. I am also not afraid of death. If it is something that has to happen, it will happen. My only fear is being captured, though. This is why I carried a grenade with me to any mission. If it coems ot that - I'd rather blow myself up then become their prisoner.

I fight against occupation. I have never forced suffering onto civilians on either side of the front, unlike ukrainian army. I do not know anyone on my side who did and lived to tell about it - unlike UAF who doesnt even want to court martial it's commanders and soldiers, here, if you try to murder a civilian - you get a bullet to your head. I have helped people of Novorossiya, and I still do(I continue working with orphanages to this day).

Hi there, thanks for opening up. I find this interesting, and have some imminent plans to carry out journalistic work in southeast Ukraine. I am curious if we could see possibly any evidence you've actually done the things you say, in the places you claim to have been? Anyone can say anything online, of course.

Assuming you to be the genuine article, I would love to ask you some questions:

Where do you get most of your news? Especially considering you are leaning towards believing the Ukrainians were responsible for downing MH17; I ask because the Russian-backed forces had been hitting planes and helicopters that entire week, while the Ukrainians have seemingly never done anything more than shoot down UAVs. Moreover, you refer to Graham Phillips as if he is a journalist, rather than another troll, which is always curious, even if you believe the Kremlin story line.

How do you feel about the two Russian soldiers who were captured recently? The Russian government claimed they had retired from the armed forces, but the two men claimed to be on active duty. What does this do to Russian/Separatist morale, if anything? Feelings of abandonment? Or simply is this simply brushed off as propaganda?

You seem to have knowledge of some sorts of Ukrainian atrocities. What precisely have you witnessed, and where? I have never personally been able to understand the idea of Ukrainian forces harming Russian speakers in the east, considering so many of the armed forces are Russian speakers themselves. Any information in this regard would be fascinating.

Finally, as part of an occupation force in what is an illegal conflict, or what will likely be one day treated as one, do you fear prosecution if/when the Putin regime falls?

Thank you in advance.

How did you learn about SA?

Do you know the United States Air Force has no rank "Sergeant First Class"? They have "Airman First Class", however. Also "Technical Sergeant", which would be to a Sergeant as A1C is to an Airman.

When you say you are responsible for avionics, do you mean you are also a maintainer, or do you mean you are part of a team and your job is to read and control the avionics? When you say "electronic gear", do you mean sensors, electronic warfare or your own communications? What models do you use, and what sort of avionics are in use? Is it contemporary Garmin electronics, homemade stuff, or some sort of Russian equivalent? Are the UAVs OTR commercial, Russian military UAVs, or homemade? How long are recon patrols? What sort of information do you usually gather? Who do you report to (not the person specifically, but their position on the command structure)? What do they do with the information? Who funds you, if you are volunteers?

Why do you choose a grenade as suicide tool, instead of a gun, poison capsule, or helium gas?

If not occupants, then who are they? Are they liberators? No, how can you liberate a land from it's own people? Are they peacekeepers? No, they commit war crimes, deliberate, inhumane atrocities - torture, rape, murder. They loot, they destroy people's lives for fun, thrill.
This is not an anti-terrorist operation. It's a cleansing aimed against half of the Ukrainian population, simply because they are considered politically undesired by those who now hold power in the ukrainian government. This is a civil war that is fully supported by the other half of the populace, of which 10% desires to see all russian ethnos killed and the rest just quietly sitting in their homes, complacent as usual.

I will update on Crimea a bit later, don't have the time right now.

The current "government" had a great chance to end it the moment in began, in Slavyansk. All it would take is a single company of soldiers and some degree of control over armories. Strelkov's men had Saigas and Veprs when they entered. A single Tigr rifle. Do you know where they got their first assault rifles? They bought them from the ukrainian forces right there. Did they end the rebellion before it began? No. They could have. They had every chance and it would have been so simple. But it wasn't profitable for them, current ukrainian "government" needed an enemy, a distraction from the problems they have forced upon their own country. And so, they loot and destroy the country while the world looks the other way.

I really, really want to see that report released. Except it seems to be being stalled and now they want a tribunal against Russia before there's even a report released. How curious, punishing someone before we know who did it? A very curious tactic.

My unit is currently being reformed. I am not yet sure whether I will return to active duty.

I would really appreciate in exchange, that you wouldn't practice your classic school of journalism on this occasion, Asking questions is fine, framing those question in a provocative way like you did is just rude.

I get my news first-hand from other servicemen. This wouldn't be the first time for the ukraine to down a passenger plane just for laughs, and I really, really want that report. As I said, seeing it stalled like this made me actually believe that it was the ukraine. We'll have to wait for the release though, assuming that ever happens. If it doesn't, hey, I'll know I was right.

I remember that. I'm pretty sure the only proof they provided was their militia ID and filming them saying "Hey, we're Russian regulars" That "confession" was obtained through coercion. There are no regular forces in the ukraine, especially not on the front line as that just doesn't make any sense.

I do not agree that this conflict is illegal, nor I am afraid of any prosecution in any event. Time will show that we are right.

I learned about SA during my time in Eve online - I used to be part of TEST alliance. I registered on forums for archives, but never switched the allegiance.

A bit of confusion on abbreviatures, I suppose. AF - Armed Forces. There's no "airforce" right now, aside from our wet dreams.

We use commercially available equipment - Chinese airplane shells, ardupilot, dji pilot, also additional sensoric payload and cameras(GoPros, slaved DSLR with zoom lenses). I maintain the electronics, set them up, repair and adjust software side of things, wire up the electricals. I also charge, repair and assemble battery packs. We do both high-res aerial photography through the cameras and low-res live feed through high-gain wifi. We record armor and troop movement, enemy position updates and also artillery correction is some cases. We're the only units that has stepped up from dji phantoms.

Grenade is psychologically easier for me. I never really felt that I would be able to cut my own throat or shoot myself. With a grenade? Just pull the drat pin pretending to throw it and then just... not.

Thank you for starting this thread.

What theory that the Ukrainians shot down MH17 do you believe the most plausible? Are you aware the designer of the Su-25 says there is no way the plane is capable of shooting down a commercial airliner at the altitude it was flying the time of the attack?

How familiar are you with Bellingcat's work to find the party responsible for the downing of MH17?

https://www.bellingcat.com/tag/mh17/

You claim that Russians are not in Southeastern Ukraine fighting against the Ukrainian military, yet you admit you are in fact from Moscow. How many Russians are there in Ukraine fighting Ukrainians who are defending their country from an invading force?

And finally, what are your thoughts on Simon Ortovsky's recent report that proved Russian regular military from Siberia were in Debaltseve last winter fighting Ukrainian forces after the Minsk peace agreement, in which Vladimir Putin himself attended, was signed?

Do you think current NATO deployments in Baltics and Poland threaten Russia? If so, then how? Why would NATO invade Russia?

Do you think that Maidan was made by CIA and not a national uprising against pro-Russian government?

If the Ukrainian military in the beginning of these "funtimes" was molded and formed by years of pro-Russian government, how can you blame them for the mistakes in the beginning of the conflict?

Similarly, why would the new government orchestrate a crisis if they're, you know, new? And most of the troubles could be simply blamed on the old government?

What's the legality of Little Green Men appearing in Crimea? What did they protect?

If Crimea was given to Ukraine illegally, is the continuing Russian presence in Kaliningrad, which was given to the USSR for 50 years tops, still legal?

I don't know whether you're a troll, a naive idiot or a cynical propagandist but if this site had even semi-competent moderation you would be permabanned for being a member of an illegal paramilitary invading force on a sovereign nation, a mercenary and a probable war criminal. I know Russians operate in fantasy land where they believe the constant stream of bullshit pumped out by Kremlin approved media but in the west we have actual independent news sources who don't have to clear their narrative with a neofascist dictator and his cadre of crooked thieving oligarch cunts before reporting them so I don't think your lies are going to convince anybody here except the kill Amerikkka crew who was already on your side. Your little "man at the scene" reports are as believable and trustworthy as an IS jihadi's. Please stay out of Ukraine and stop killing and supporting the killing of innocent Ukrainians by a neofascist regime mad because Ukraine finally told it to gently caress off.

Also the Ukrainians can't be occupants because they're operating in their country. Novorossiya and DPR doesn't exist except in the diseased minds of Putin, Dugin and the useful idiots they employ to destabilize Europe.

What's the state of infrastructure - water, heat, sewers, electricity, roads, communications - in the settlements you have been to within the conflict areas? What is the state of printed and/or radio- and/or TV-broadcasted media in the areas of conflict?

What does NAF military ration look like/consist of? Is there any standardization in this respect?

Would you, reflecting on yourself prior to taking active participation within the conflict, say that you have been part of some group - ideological, political, or religious - that could not be attributed, neither directly, nor indirectly, to majority of your peers in Moscow (age-wise)?
