WELCOME TO VIDEO GAME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING THE LONGEST RUNNING EPISODIC SHOW ON TWITCH!

VGCW is a family of wrestling shows streamed live every week. Using WWE 2K14's robust character creator, your favorite video game characters and Toad battle it out in unscripted AI v. AI matches that are guaranteed to make you :vince:. The show's been going on since November 2012, and is as strong as ever now with numberous spin offs and a sizable and dedicated community to drive the action. The live-streamed nature of VGCW makes it an amazing and unique experience, Twitch chat screams, chants and argues over the action in a way that makes it feel like you're really at an arena watching the insanity happen live.

All VGCW shows are streamed on Tuesday or Friday at 7PM Eastern time. All shows follow a bi-weekly schedule (roughly), VGCW is every other Tuesday and WVGCW and EDBW are on Tuesdays or Fridays if there isn't already another show happening. BWA is the exception, it happens on Sundays at 6PM Eastern.

If you're new to VGCW, a good way to get in is to watch the matches I've linked. But the best way will always be to just jump straight into a live stream!

THE SHOWS

Video Game Championship Wrestling (VGCW) :vince:

The main show. Male video game characters battle eachother for fun and glory. It includes everything a good wrestling show needs: titles, feuds, tag-teams, Royal Rumbles, "Pay-Per-View" events, plotlines and of course :vince:. Some plotlines include Miles Edgeworth's prosecution of Dante for trying to frame a series of death-threats on his old rival, Travis Touchdown. Or Dr. Wily and Dr. Eggman trying to turn other wrestlers into robot slaves.

Adding to the hilarity and unpredictablity is 2K14 itself. The game has terrible AI and many bugs, some frustrating, many humorous but all contribute in making all the matches :vince:.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms0oz2J63aM

Women's Video Game Championship Wrestling (WVGCW) :vince:

Female division. Just like the main show but with the ladies. Still has crazy wrestling action. The biggest change is that while the show is still streamed, it is prerecorded. What it loses in charm it makes up for in production quality. But it still has the same fun action and story of the main show with feuds, plotlines, plenty of :vince: and even wrestling sometimes too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8rdXV2Fe84

John I'm still waiting...

Extreme Dudebro Wrestling (EDBW) :vince:

The developmental show. Characters compete here to see if they have what it takes to get called up to the main show. Features both male and female characters. Due to the experimental nature, expect weirder characters who would never make it to the main shows, like the Goomba from the Mario live action movie. The roster is also nearly constantly in flux, with new talent debuting (and leaving) almost every show. John has said that he plans on starting to do some plot scenes. Probably not the long arcs of the other shows but it'll still be something worth seeing.

VGCW ARENA :vince:

FAQ/GIF DUMP

-This poo poo looks dumb, why should I watch it?
-Because I'm sorry but VGCW loving owns and if you can't see that then you're poo poo.

-Do I need to watch WWE or any other wrestling promotion to like this show?
-While a few plots and character gimmicks are inspired by WWE plots and wrestlers, you don't need to follow WWE at all to enjoy VGCW. I don't watch WWE beyond a few .gifs and three minute youtube videos and I enjoy VGCW as much as anyone else. Hell I probably like it more than most people. And if you're lost on anything that's related to real-fake wrestling then people in the thread will be happy to explain it to you.

-Ok, I'll watch this poo poo, can I just jump into a stream or what?
-An all new season of the main show is starting and most of the loose ends have been tied up fairly nicely, so jumping right into a stream would be easy. If you're not quite sold on the concept then the three matches in the OP offer a good look at what the show is like and if you're entertained or intrigued then be sure to tune in for the next live stream

-Now who does this methodical pace benefit?
-Well, whenever the dominating competitor takes his time it gives everyone a catch their breath. So I dunno!

-Do the guys running this read/post on SA? What's the best way of reaching them?
-TOH reads and posts in this thread though not all the time. Bryn and John have SA accounts but they haven't made much use of them recently. If you want to say something to any of the showrunners (they do response well to feedback) then your best bet would be the official forums or maybe contacting them on their twitters. Use the links in the OP

-Ok what in the gently caress is going on with this weird plotline in WVGCW with the Ace Attorneys and Chun-Li's ghost or some poo poo?
-You probably have as much of a clue as to what's happening with that one as Bryn does.

-Who should I root for?
-Whomever you like, for whatever reason you have. Some characters are faces (good guys) some are heels (bad guys) but sometimes its more fun or interesting if the bad guy wins! So long as you never root for The Summoners you just root for your personal favorite to win the match, even if they aren't the most popular.

-What's up with all these chat memes?
-YOUR MEMES END HERE!

-When is TOH/Bryn/John gonna add Superfly Johnson or [your second favorite video game character after Superfly] to the show?
-Sadly, due to the recent 2K14 server shutdown, getting new CAWs on the show is going to be difficult. TOH, Bryn and John all "future-proofed" the shows by stocking up on CAWs they think that they'll eventually use. So any newly debuting talent would have to have already been made and grabbed. It is possible to make roster additions via save editing. However that process is apparently very time consuming, among other problems.

-Why doesn't this show use WWE 2K16 then?
-The show runners use a feature in 2K14 called "Create A Story" to make the cutscenes used for plot sequences. No equivalent feature exists in 2K15 or 2K16, so they're stuck running on 2K14. There are rumors that 2K17 will have a CAS equivalent, but for whatever reason they could not get it working in time for 2K16's release. Hopefully those rumors are true, or else VGCW might start running into real trouble.

-I'm new/haven't watched in a while, what plot happenings should I be aware of?
-Prozach's done a write-up of the important plots, feuds and title scene goings on from Season 7 to the end of Season X. Right here - http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3730749#post447674151

-What should I do if my favorite wrestler loses?
-RIOT!

-I got an amazing .gif that you need to add!
-Post it in the thread and I'll have it up here as soon as I can be assed!

-While we're on the subject, anyplace where I can find more .gifs?

As someone who followed VGCW religiously and then due to work and life stuff fell off shortly after the Phoenix Armstrong finale and never got back on, would it be possible for someone to post a bit of a rundown on what's been going on in the background since then, both fiction-wise and streaming-wise? I know Bazza passed the torch, apparently to TOH? Outside of the accidental Scorpion/Donkey Kong intro, I've been basically blind to VGCW since End Game 6.

Dunno if I'll get back into it, part of the magic was not really missing any of the shows, and having such a huge gap at this point might be too much for me to get back into it with.

Scorpion won the belt at End Game 7, went on to smash Ganon and Red's belt records and amassing 12 defences before finally dropping the belt to Nappa via MitB, who lose to Guile via triple-threat, who lost to Sabin via tables triple threat. Dan founded the PRATS with Billy and Jimmy Lee and the three became the best tag team in the division, finally getting the belts halfway through season 10 and defending them at End Game X. Gabe turned evil after a failed attempt at roboticising him (Season 8 was weird, yo), killed Grey Fox, terrorised the division and was finally put down for good at End Game X. GARY OAK won the second great GM Tourney, beating DUKE loving NUKEM in the finals for the chair. Dante (Edgy) returned, became the most electrifying wrestler in the league and almost got the quickest time from employment to belt-gaining since Ganon himself. That's about all I can remember off the top of my head, but a lot happened since EG6 and the ride has been very, very wild indeed.

If you're getting in for the first time or back after a while now's a very good time since EGX put to rest many of the plots and feuds so TOH will have a pretty fresh new show starting this season.

Also worth noting: Illidan became Gary's "client" until Gary won the GM position and it went to his head. Illidan then rebelled against Gary but was twice put in his place by Gary's new enforcer, Senator Steven Armstrong.

Now if you want a synopsis of what's happened on WVGCW, I don't think there's a man alive who could give you one.

Anyways, hop back on the VGCW train, Sabin's got a title defense against newest challenger Kanji Tatsumi (persona finally went over) who is on a 5-0 streak since his debut and is looking like a goddamned wrecking ball.

Dunno if I'll get back into it, part of the magic was not really missing any of the shows, and having such a huge gap at this point might be too much for me to get back into it with.

Here's some basic plot points for the recent history of VGCW, going about a year back (Wordybird already covered most of VGCW already though)

VGCW

* Scorpion just came off a historic 300+ day reign as champion where he had a ridiculous 12 successful title defenses, including 4 in one night. Nappa, arguably the strongest wrestler on the whole roster, had to take it off him by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Since then the main title has bounced around like hot potato, going from Nappa straight to top heel Guile and then straight to returning wrestler Sabin. His next challenger will be the newest member of the VGCW roster, Kanji Tatsumi, who has started off with a 4 match winning streak and is the heavy favorite going into their title match.
* Back in Season 7, Gabe Newell was both GM and champion at the same time. He eventually dropped the title to Proto Man in an Elimination Chamber match, but remained GM until the finale of Season 8. During that season, Dr. Eggman and Dr. Wily (aka The Practice) had been going around turning a sizable chunk of the roster into robots. It culminated in a brawl between Gaben and Super Mecha Arino, the advanced, angry robot form of Shinya Arino from Gamecenter CX. When it looked like Gabe was gonna be taken out for good, he unleashed his Nightmare Form and threatened the entire roster (and world), including causing the death of Gray Fox. He was eventually killed off by the power of prayer. The Nightmare Gabe storyline was weird.
* A whole bunch of new wrestlers have joined since the game moved to WWE 2K14. Notable members include Illidan Stormrage from World of Warcraft, Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat, Toad from Mario Bros, and even Zubaz, the rejected Street Fighter concept art that was popularized by Two Best Friends Play and made it into a few indy titles. At the same time, a bunch of old classics from the early seasons of VGCW have left to make room. Charles Barkley, former 3 time World Champ, was demoted to the developmental promotion EDBW. The Pyro, Luigi, Mr. Satan, the Angry Video Game Nerd, Diddy Kong (a new wrestler that no one liked) and Ness (who was fired for the second time in his career just recently) were also all dropped from the roster. There's been a lot of roster turnover as of late, but it's never been better when it comes to the variety of talent on display.
* Season 7 saw the debut of the Ring Rangers, a group of masked midcarders upset at their position on the card and the fact that they weren't getting any opportunities to move up. They sent a message to the locker room by attacking longtime veteran main eventers like Little Mac and Mike Haggar. To counter this stable, Gaben installed two security teams: One was the Disciplinary Committee, the team of Seifer, Raijin and Fujin that's since become backstage security at the conclusion of the plot. The other was the P.R.A.T.S, a stable led by former lowcard heel Dan Hibiki and his two proteges Billy and Jimmy Lee, the Double Dragons. Since then the P.R.A.T.S have become the most popular trio on the entire roster and had major resurgences in their careers. Dan managed to pull himself out of jobber status and win the midcard Casual Championship twice, while The Dragons are the current reigning and defending Tag Team Champions. Eventually, the Rangers were split up by the combined forces of the two stables, and it was revealed that new wrestler Johnny Cage was the head Red Ranger leading the group. However, it turned out that GUILE, the Black Ranger, set Johnny up to fail by ordering the Rangers to attack backstage talent, which Johnny never intended to happen.
* Perennial jobber Gary Oak suddenly pulled himself out of the bottom of the card in Season 9, just in time for the second Great Tournament to decide Gabe's replacement as General Manager. He went on a completely unexpected winning streak, taking out Waluigi (which actually was expected), mega-face M. Bison, Bazza McMahon himself and eventually Duke Nukem to win the position. His first act as GM was to install his own protective stable built around new wrestlers Miles Edgeworth and Steven Armstrong. However, his former protection, the aforementioned Illidan, took offense to becoming just a pawn in Gary's game and challenged Armstrong to a couple of fights. The first was a squash in Armstrong's favor but the second was an absolutely incredible 30 Minute Iron Man match at End Game X which was decided with a tiebreaking pinfall by Armstrong with literally 5 seconds left on the clock. It was a stark turnaround for Illidan, who debuted as the most hated wrestler in VGCW History and is now a respected face.

WVGCW

* Currently, the main stars of the show is the stable of RPGenie: the infamous Terra "Terror Baltimore" Branford, Shantae the Half Genie Hero, and EDBW Legend and most popular wrestler on the roster Lucina. They've been primarily embroiled in multiple feuds with the nWo (New Witch Order), made up of Grunty, Bayonetta, and until recently Sindel. After having a not-so-successful debut match together, they pulled it together in Season 5 by finally beating their longtime rivals to earn #1 contendership for the Tag Team Titles, which they eventually won against the previously record-breaking champions Still Alive (Faith Connors and Chell.) They've managed to make two successful title defenses since then against Steak Machina (Chie Satonaka and Aigis, more on them later) and 18 Volts (Android 18 and Claire "Lightning" Fallon, a team that's just recently split up). Their next contenders will either be the team of Jet Set Radio (Cube and Gum) or The Last Sheikah (Sheik and Hyrule Warriors Impa), both of whom are well-liked face tag teams. The tag division in WVGCW is probably the strongest part of any show at the moment, practically any tag match is a must-see event and contains a giant chunk of the WVGCW roster.
* The previously mentioned Sindel broke up with the nWo to pursue her own interests, which has paid dividends for her own personal career but has done a hefty blow to the careers of others. Establishing herself as a top card talent with victories over wrestlers like Lucina and Carmen Sandiego, Sindel instead decided to pick a fight with her daughter and midcard Casualette champion Kitana (who was portraying a gimmick based around the real life wrestler AJ Lee at the time. It makes sense if you watch it.) To stick it to her daughter, Sindel literally stole the belt out from her grasp and kept it for herself, holding it hostage until Breakdown F.I.V.E where she decidedly beat KJ to remain the possessor of the belt. To make matters worse, she "killed off" the KJ gimmick and forced her daughter to revert to being plain old Kitana, in an effort to ruin the fan support that had been built around her. Since then, Sindel has made mincemeat of the entire midcard scene, squashing Shantae, Grunty, and most recently Videl to remain the champion. The general public hasn't been happy about this lately however, so she's taken it upon herself to issue an Open Challenge against the entire WVGCW roster. It's still uncertain how long it'll take before she'll actually drop the thing.
* Before this most recent season, Cate Archer was a boring wrestler that had no personality, but due to being unquestionably strong she managed to work all the way up into becoming the WVGCW Champion by beating former double champ Chell. In her first address to the crowd, she began to talk about who she was and why people should care, until she got interrupted by Jade (Beyond Good and Evil), an otherwise silent wrestler that had never had the spotlight to herself. It kickstarted a title feud that was generally well received and got many people to turn around on both wrestlers considerably, until a few weeks ago where they finally met face to face and Jade managed to win the championship from the recently-turned Cate Archer. The next show, however, Cate did the unprecedented act of issuing her rematch clause, stating that she would win back the belt at Breakdown 6. It remains to be seen if the new WVGCW GM GLaDOS will allow this to go through.
* In the early days of WVGCW, Chie Satonaka was the jobber that everyone seemed to like, but just wasn't able to perform well in the slightest. That changed in Season 3, where a shocking display of HEART against the team Mad Gear (the identical twins Poison and Roxy) led to increased fan interest. She used it to challenge Roxy to an Iron Man match on the next show that she was victorious in. With fan support at an alltime high, it was a surprise when she WASN'T announced as one of the contenders for the inaugural Casualette Championship match. She used that fan uproar to her advantage, debuting a new "Steak Cold" gimmick where she adopted Stone Cold's mannerisms and fought Videl for her slot in the title match, which she won again (a recurring theme throughout WVGCW is that Videl is always screwed over). With this new opportunity, she shocked everyone by winning the ladder match and completing her redemption arc. However, at the same time people were growing weary of the one note gimmick. She dropped it and, with the help of her tag partner Elizabeth (Persona 3) investigated the strange nature of the person that took her belt, "Shadow" Princess Peach and her partner Princess Daisy. A bunch of crazy poo poo happened along the way, including a battle between two Chies and the debut of "Shadow Chat", but the end result led to the death of Shadow Peach, the retirement of Elizabeth, the return of regular Princess Peach, the debut of Aigis as Chie's new tag team investigative partner, and the growth of one of the most over faces on the roster.
* Honestly there's a shitton of other plots that have happened on this show (like the general manager feud between The Saint from the Saints Row Series and Samus Aran, or the feud and subsequent reformation of Team Rockette [Jessie, James and...Rinoa Heartilly], or the lengthy title reign of Ayla, or the firing of Ivy Valentine, or the romance plotscenes between Mr. Satan and Impa, or the current murder investigation into the in-ring death of Chun Li that involves Maya Fey spirit channelling etc.) that listing every single one would take forever. But very rarely does BRYN's writing leave anything to be desired. There always seems to be a rhyme or reason for everything going on, and while it takes longer to jump right in and watch than it does for VGCW or EDBW, getting invested into those characters is absolutely worth it if you're willing to give it the attention it needs.

EDBW

* EDBW is the developmental show ran by John Dudebro which was announced at the conclusion of Star Road 1, a tournament designed to let 1 wrestler out of 16 fan-voted CAWs into VGCW and guarantee them a one-year contract. It is the spiritual successor to SNST, the developmental show ran by Supernormal Step that ran until he retired from CAW making. It serves as a direct pipeline for potential VGCW and WVGCW wrestlers alike to make their way onto one of the main shows, and has spawned the careers of beloved wrestlers like Lucina, Miles Edgeworth, Johnny Cage, Senator Armstrong, and most recently Jinx (League of Legends). Dudebro has a lot of leeway in what he allows to compete on his show. Some are designed to see how they'd fare in one of the "big leagues", while others are there purely for entertainment's sake, like Strong Bad, Big the Cat, and Bubsy. There's not a lot to say on the storyline front since it's been a show without plot for its entire run, but that's about to change with the next episode.

ARENA

* ARENA is the non canon fan-created show ran by Belmont Legend where the matches and plotscenes are completely in the hands of the people, instead of being at the whims of the A.I. Simply put, ARENA is loving nuts. Gimmick matches are turned up to 11 where everyone sees how they can break the game in exceedingly ridiculous ways, and the plotscenes are basically things out of a fever dream. As an example, the team of Bo Jackson, John Madden, Banon from Final Fantasy VI and Chie (as the punter) runs around as Final Fantasy Football. Why? Why not! There's no real rhyme or reason to a lot of the things that happen on ARENA, but that's part of what makes it great.

I have a feeling Satoru Iwata is just about to make his VGCW debut.

Or at least as a one-off match, and then Jesus or someone comes along to take him away.

I wasn't really serious. Though a one-off tribute match might be cute.

A Climactic Encounter Ending on 1 Negate and a Dream
There's a clip from an old old show that I can't seem to find anymore. It was TMNT's Raph wrestling Snake/Big Boss and as Raph takes over Way To Fall starts playing and there's a huge pile driver that syncs perfectly with the song. Snake went on to lose that match if I remember correctly. Anyone know where I could look/what match I'm talking about.

I'm of the opinion that TERROR BALTIMORE should always be in all caps, but this is great.

Well, if I really HAVE to shoot you in the bollocks to shut you up, then I guess I'll need to, post-haste, for everyone else's sake.
Missed quite a bit of the last season, but what a time to get back into the show :getin:

Hello! I see you.

I don't follow VGCW at all, but that loving Donkey Kong face slays me every time I see it. :allears:
