Hey everyone. It's the All-Star Break for Major League Baseball which means every Reds player not named Joey Votto or Todd Frazier must go. Also the Padres might be blown up? Not really sure about that situation. Everyone on the Phillies must go, including Jonathan Papelbon who says, "Ruben Amaro has to trade me. Like today. *fart*" Who are our most elligible bachelors to find love in another city?
Johnny Cueto 6-6, 118.2 IP, 2.73 ERA, 113 SO, 22 BB, 140 ERA+ Cueto is unsurprisingly having another good season for the hopeless Reds. He represents somewhat of a risky aquisition as he's only under contract for the rest of this year. That may lead some teams to balk at a potential price as the Reds would most likely look to cash in best they can, and there's a bit of prospect huggin all throughout baseball right now. Cueto is almost assured to hit the open market for teams to dictate his future worth, so you can probably forget about extending him once the season is over. Who's Interested? Pretty much every team not looking at Cole Hamels. Think he'll get traded? Pete Rose would bet on it. Cole Hamels 5-7, 116.2 IP, 3.63 ERA, 123 SO, 37 BB, 105 ERA+ Cole Hamels has been in trade rumors all season and has yet to move. Shrewd General Manager Ruben Amaro has been said to ask for several top prospects to move his most coveted asset. Who can blame him aside from the SOSH/Dirt Dogs webring and Peter Gammons? Hamels has been one of baseball's best over his career despite a rocky year. He's also signed to a relatively team friendly contract over the next couple of years, making Rick Porcello money. However, with new president/mathemagician Andy MacPhail in the wings waiting to take over and weird meddling from ownership, who knows if Hamels actually gets dealt this July. Who's Interestered? Every team who thinks they have a chance. Think he'll get traded? Pete Rose is watching the line. Jeff Samardzija 6-4, 125.1 IP, 4.02 ERA, 102 SO, 23 BB, 92 ERA+ The AL offseason champion White Sox haven't lived up to the pre-summer hype. A small push before the all-star break may have put them on the fence a little bit as to be buyers or sellers, but most would agree that they just don't have enough talent to overcome the teams ahead of them. How they play in the next week and a half should determine their course. Samardzija has been having a down year compared to his career norms and will be a free agent at year's end. The White Sox haven't seemed too interested in offering him an extension, so he looks to be on the way out. Who's Interested? Samardzija doesn't look to be a game changer for any playoff team, but looks like a decent piece to have to hold down the back end of a rotation or to give some needed depth for teams with a shallow rotation or teams not looking to give up a fortune in the Cueto/Hamels scenario. I could see a team like the Yankees, Blue Jays, Tigers, or an NL team like the Giants looking at Samardzija. Think he'll get traded? Pete Rose would bet on it. Scott Kazmir 5-5, 101.1 IP, 2.49 ERA, 96 SO, 34 BB, 154 ERA+ Presumed dead in 2011 after he could not locate the strike zone, Mr. Kazmir washed up on the shores of the Cuyahoga River and had a respectable 2013 campaign. Billy Beane signed him to a two year deal that bore some fruit, but now the A's are bad and Kazmir's contract is coming to an end. He may not have a higher value than he does at the present moment because of his current performance. Although, yet again, he is another pitcher on an expiring contract that the A's do not look likely to resign. Could Billy Beane keep him for the qualifying offer denial or will he be traded for the next great A's trade chip. Who's Interested? Kazmir has already been linked to the Astros and Tigers, among other clubs. Think he'll get traded? Pete Rose would bet on it. Pete Rose's Betting Insurance Jorge De La Rosa Yovani Gallardo Clay Buchholtz James Shields Mike Leake Mat Latos Ian Kennedy Dan Haren Voted Most Likely To Be Potentially Waiver Traded Aaron Harang Matt Garza Kyle Lohshe JA Happ Kyle Kendrick Bud Norris
Jonathan Papelbon 1-1, 14 SV, 33.2 IP, 1.60 ERA, 35 SO, 7 BB, 238 ERA+ Mouth of the South Jimmy Papelbon really wants to be traded. Like, really really. quote:"This is not what I signed up for. I signed up for a team that had won 102 games and was expecting certain things. It didn’t happen, and I tried to ride that ship as much as I can and I’ve tried to keep my mouth shut as much as I can. Like I said earlier, it’s time to 'you-know-what or get off the pot.' I feel like three years is plenty enough time to ride it out, so to speak. If fans can’t understand that, I can’t really side with them on that. I’m getting older and I don’t know how many years I have left in the this game, I don’t know how many All-Star games I have left. None of that’s guaranteed. For me, I’m just simply trying to be on winning ballclub and win as many rings as I can before it’s all said and done and I’m coaching [his son] Gunner in little league. That’s really all I’m trying to do. From my perspective, I don’t understand how fans couldn’t understand that. I understand that they wear their hearts on their sleeves and all that stuff, but I’m in it to compete and to win. I don’t have that opportunity in this organization. Also, I feel like I’ve given this organization as many opportunities as I can to put a winning ballclub out there and as many chances to keep me in this organization, and it just hasn’t happened. We’re where we’re at today, and that’s it." Who's Interested? So far he's been linked to the Blue Jays, Cubs, Tigers, Angels. Think he'll get traded? Pete Rose would bet on it. Aroldis Chapman 3-3, 18 SV, 37.1 IP, 1.69 ERA [nice], 65 SO, 20 BB, 228 ERA+ "Gotta go fast." The motto of regular 100 mph thrower Chapman and Sonic the Hedgehog. Chapman has been one of the league's best closers in his short Major League career, but what good is a closer on a team that has no chance of competing this year or the next? Some may call this the Craig Kimbrel problem, only there's no bad contract that Chapman can be shipped out of town with. The Reds need to seriously consider what kind of value they can get for the fireballer, and they already look likely to explore that option. Who's Interested? The usual suspects: Cubs, Tigers, Blue Jays. Think he'll get traded? Pete Rose has him included in a Johnny Cueto parlay. These Dudes Will Probably End Up In A Playoff Team Bullpen Steve Cishek Jim Johnson Tyler Clippard Joaquin Benoit Edward Mujica Koji Uehara
Troy Tulowitzki 316 PA, 10 HR, 49 RBI, .313/.351/.480, 114 OPS+ Probably the Holy Grail of this year's crop of position player trade candidates. Ever since the untimely demise of Rocktober, Tulo has been grinding it out in the Rocky Mountains as the Rockies continued to lose year after year. They've finally reached that point were the team is likely better off with any players that Tulowitzki could bring in via trade for the inevitable Rockies rebuild. Tulo represents the best in one of baseball's shallowest positions and will be a franchise altering acquisition to prospective teams. Some may question his value moving forward and the story remains the same as Tulo is seemingly on the market every year without the trigger being pulled. Will this finally be the year? Who's Interested? The Mets (lol) should be, but likely will never spend the dough to bring him over. Otherwise, interested teams seem a bit murky. Rumblings of the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers (basically all the biggest market teams). Will he be traded? Pete Rose thinks there's no action here. Ben Zobrist 234 PA, 5 HR, 31 RBI, .261/.346/429, 115 OPS+ Ben Zobrist represents the WD-40 of the baseball world. Highly dependable and useful in almost any position you put him in. With almost a yearly demand for infielders and an expiring contract, Zobrist is the ideal solution for teams looking for a bat. A nice stop-gap to make a World Series run that likely won't cost too much to give up. Who's Interested? Both New York teams could use the infield help, Giants, Nationals, Royals. Will he be traded? Pete Rose would take that bet. Jay Bruce 343 PA, 13 HR, 42 RBI, .251/.341/.465, 120 OPS+ If we are to truly believe the Reds are going to go all scorched earth, Jay Bruce represents the most likely offensive player to be shipped out of town. The power hitting corner outfielder is an attractive option to some teams as he is still under control for the next two years. However, this also means the Reds may hold him until the offseason or next year to trade. Who's Interested? He's only been linked to the Mets, but rumors have swirled that he has been on the market for a while. Will he be traded? Pete Rose doesn't bet on his own team. Justin Upton 362 PA, 14 HR, 48 RBI, .253/.331/.422, 113 OPS+ Things haven't been going so well for the NL off-season champions. It looks like that's the only banner they're going to be flying by year's end. Many of the team's players are being rumored in trades, but none more notable than Justin Upton. A solid outfielder the last couple of years, Upton is a nice outfield option. A free agent at season's end may prompt the Padres to trade him. Talks of an extension have not seemed likely with Upton looking for a big contract. Will the Padres continue to open up their pockets to retain talent like Upton? There's also the matter of hosting the All-Star Game next year and holding on to star players. Who's Interested? I'm sorry, but another player that has been linked to the Mets. Angels, Giants, Yankees, Nationals all look like trade partners as well. Will he be traded? Pete Rose would bet on it. I think the Yankees will make a conservative, quantity over quality prospect package play for Zobrist. There also seems to be rumblings about Clippard coming back to whence he came, but the relief situation seems to have stabilized.

Whatever happened to that Independent league team that was trying to crowdfund the money to buy Ryan Howard's contract. How would that even work? The Phillies waive him, he clears waivers and goes to AAA then is traded? EDIT: The York Revolution EDIT EDIT: Holy poo poo, Ryan Howard has played every game for the Phillies this year, and is set to put up 30 walks and 181 strikeouts with an OBP below .300!! I have no idea if the Rangers are going to end up being buyers or sellers, but they have a nine-game road trip once the ASB's over, and two of the three teams are the Astros and Angels. That ought to clear things up pretty cleanly. If they throw in the towel, they'll presumably move Yovani Gallardo for something pretty decent and Wandy Rodriguez for anybody with a pulse, and I hope to gently caress they cash in on the season Mitch Moreland's having too. If they turn their poo poo around and decide to buy, the obvious targets will be Hamels and either Cespedes or Upton

If they were smart, the M's would try to get something interesting for Iwakuma before he hits FA . However, as they are not smart it'll be interesting watching Jack Z try to save his job E: word on the street is that the M's are close to trading for a catcher. Mike Zunino is having a historically bad season so they need to do something about C soon whether they see themselves as contenders or not. I hope he isn't ruined forever and they just send him to live with a nice family out in the country a rowdy mullet fucked around with this message at 05:20 on Jul 16, 2015 |
