Dominion is back

25 years after the movie Legion humanity struggles to survive in walled off fortress cities and resist the depredations of the Archangel Gabriel. The central city is Vega, formally Las Vegas, home of Archangel Micheal who has sided with humanity against his brethren. Season 1 saw us learn about the purpose of the "Chosen One" Alex, a man with magical tattoos all over his body that allegedly hold the secret to where God went. Much drama ensues as political forces in Vega seek to control him,. Micheal takes Alex under his wing to guide him a certain way, and Gabriel keeps trying to subtly convince him to leave Vega and come to his side.

Season 2 takes us in a completely new direction as 2/3rds of the story are taking place outside of Vega so we finally get to explore the ravaged world that was constantly referenced in season 1. There's a mysterious idyllic town Micheal arrives to that has a holy flame burning that protects them from angel attacks. More boring political stuff is going down in Vega, and Gabriel is hunting Alex outright now caring only to decipher the mysterious runes/ink.

Season 1 was fun most of the time, but it suffered from long drawn out melodrama about the squabbling between the various "house" factions in Vega. Gabriel's actor is amazing though and every scene he's in is a treat. Micheal has a new character direction following his rage-out at the end of last season. So far, the show has picked up quite a bit from last season and there's some interesting plot development that hints at the larger mysteries going on.

I was so close to making the thread for this but then realized nobody would ever watch it with me.

Rewatching season 1 now, it's a lot less terrible when binge watching. Probably finish S1 and watch two episodes of S2 later tonight.

I speculated in the last thread that a ton of the show's budget must've gone to the Vega sets which was why 90% of the show took place there. They've shown more new locations in 2 episodes of season 2 then they did all last season.

I really don't like Gabriel's new haircut. It makes him look super douche-y.

Well, i guess it's number two in my list of show i wasn't expecting to see again this season, just behind Tyrant. I hope they introduce Lucifer and it's indeed less VEGA centric this season in term of drama.

I read the IGN review and it was mostly "wow, this show got great but all the Vega stuff is still boring as hell"

New Delphi is amazing and so much better then the staid boring "House Politic". An entire nation of humans and angels who've gone "gently caress it, we're the only people we can count on" and formed a weird pseudo anarchy functional power that is number 2 in the region.

The Vega stuff has been pretty weak and nonsensical, but hopefully with that guy getting arrested they'll go in an interesting direction with it. My money's on him just breaking out/being let out though and continuing to be a mustache-twirling comic book villain who doesn't manage to actually do anything.

Giving Alex and Michael an excuse to go outside of Vega has been great for the show though, and seeing them wander around towns from The Walking Dead and Mad Max is way more interesting than Vega's nonsensical political situation.

Yeah but any excuse to get those Vega hotties into some heels and tight pants is pretty win win.

Yeah, Angelic apocalypse is a great concept, I like that they are showing more about it.

It seems like the people working on the show had realized that no one wants to see a bunch of political maneuvering in a show themed around a post-Apocalypse Earth where literal Angels are running around causing mayhem.

I will say the end of the last episode where the woman aware of Micheal's true nature was basically head shot by gruff angry guy who's response was "Come on, this is what we do, welp I've got to go confess my sins seeya" was brilliant because there hasn't been enough subtle malevolence in the show yet.

Similar to Black Sails it was filmed in South Africa since it helps the production budget go farther.

I'm not sure if that was supposed to be a "shocking" ending or what because of course the guys played by the same actor are the same character. You can try and hide Simon Merrells face all you want but you can't disguise his voice.

Yeah it was pretty obvious it was him in the flashbacks, although I think it's still a pretty neat idea. Hopefully he isn't just killed off next episode and they do something more with him and New Delphi.

Vega continues to be pretty boring though. Having this rebellion and her soldiers betraying her just emphasizes how goofy their whole leadership system is. It's also kind of weird that she went from trying to help everyone to hunting the rebellion down, including shoot-to-kill orders. I get that they tried to assassinate her and killed the guards watching that one lady, but it still feels like there's an episode or two's worth of story/development there that we just didn't get to see. Then again with how weak everything in Vega is maybe it's a smart move to just fast-forward through all of their plots just to get to whatever the big reveal will inevitably be with the rebellion.

On a side note the mechanic guy looked haggard as gently caress after his initial meeting with Claire and I have no idea what his deal is supposed to be. Also that small town apparently being protected by actual magic is kind of weird. Like, I'm pretty sure the fact that God apparently is watching them is kind of a massive, world-changing thing but Michael just kind of accepts it and decides to help them out by saving that one chick's life before leaving.

If they nuke Vega the story will lose nothing. There is no way the show can or should bring Vega back as the central focus when now we have New Delphi.

I'm a little bit confused, how did it go from Michael being all "let's kill these motherfuckers" to "why the gently caress did you kill these motherfuckers?" before and after their attack?

I haven't watched this week's episode yet but last week's Vega stuff was so god drat boring/bad. It feels like that part of the show is the writers going down the Official Syfy Show Checklist and just ticking boxes for the sake of it. The technician guy is some weird mix of like 4 different character cliches, including now a love interest for some reason. Because what this show really needs is an eventual love triangle (rectangle?) once Alex finds his way back to Vega. The stuff with the rebellion might be interesting if they gave it more than 3 minutes per episode, although the part where the child-murdering crazy rear end in a top hat convinces them that they totally need him is really dumb. I'm ok with it just for the sake of something interesting happening in Vega, although I'm not exactly holding my breath on that one.

How much of this stuff is real or has a biblical basis? Like I know the story of David vs Goliath but I thought he was a good king or something. Are these things angels or demons? They keep being called Angels but I dunno they seem kind of deamony.
