I don't know anything about Shoot Nation besides the name and that they are amateur wrestlers. Shoot Nation is a cool name and if you have a bunch of cocky rear end in a top hat wrestlers wrecking people's poo poo, I'd be on board with that.

pressedbunny posted:People want to see their indy guys doing their indy guy thing but with a WWE budget playing to a WWE-size audience. The fact that these qualities are directly opposed goes over most heads. It's from 2012, but after listening to Kevin Steen be so depressed about barely being able to support his family even as one of the top guys in ROH, I want all my favourites to make as much money as they can.

oldpainless posted:But if they make a lot of money, then they will retire or wrestle less matches and you will see them less. If you like them, you should hope they never make a lot so they wrestle for many years. I think it's 50/50 that a wrestler will actually retire just because he makes lots of money, if anything a wrestler making money will drag his career out until he's a broken husk of a man at 70. Can't quit while you can still make a payday! Meanwhile Steen was considering quitting wrestling entirely in 2012 and becoming a "regular person". The horror.

Thauros posted:Uh, I certainly don't begrudge anyone following the career path they want to or doing whatever they can to support their family. In all the interviews I remember with him from 2012-2013 (and I owned several of his shoots) he said he was doing fine and made more money than he ever had in his career though. Yeah in this interview he said he "never sold any merch", which I found funny since he was like ROH's #1 merch seller. The interview must have happened just before he became "the guy" in ROH Anyway, it just opened my eyes that the average indie guy probably isn't doing all that good if he's not a single dude who doesn't care about saving money.

MAKE WAY NEW STARS posted:It was in a recently previously-unreleased episode of Colt Cabana's podcast he put out. Steen genuinely sounded like he was at the end of the line on the indies because his family were suffering for it and he couldn't justify it much longer. Yeah, and I guess I should clarify. It wasn't that they were destitute or anything. Steen said that "he didn't even make 60k a year" and that he wasn't sure it was worth him killing his body and missing every weekend away from his family for the same money someone could make working a regular job. Obviously things turned around for him, it was just a really interesting, honest view into a wrestler's life that you don't get very often.

I hope HHH tours NXT around trolling ROH everywhere they go. Wouldn't be surprised for another NXT Japan show that just so happened to coincide with the ROH tour there either. NXT also hires Tanahashi and Okada just so they can have them for that tour.

Germansimp posted:I was actually (positively) surprised by how clear everyone was looking at the camera while cutting their promos. I mean, wasn't it like just like last month that Meltzer reported that everyone is told to cut a promo while looking away from the camera? Certainly don't mind if they decided to back off from that stupid idea. They still do it all the time on Raw, at least last time I paid attention they did. Vince isn't hands on with NXT so they can get away from his weird quirks a bit more.

Revenant Threshold posted:Something that occurs to me only now; essentially that's what we got live, because of the dark matches, but NXT could easily put on a three hour Takeover if they wanted to. There were no matches at all that we weren't hyped up for. I don't know that that would necessarily be better, but it's easily at that point now as a promotion with the kind of talent and the kind of booking they have. I thought that length was perfect for Takeover. Didn't need any more, imo.
