Basic minimum income isn't going to happen in the US without a revolution or generational culture shift, so those that are squeezed out will just be forced to get pointless retail jobs selling products to other poor people at a 1000% markup, the same as it is right now. It gives them something to do for 8 hours a day that doesn't increase their bargaining position or improve their communities.
