the only time the WDC winner's team doesn't also win the WCC is when their second driver is poo poo, which quite literally has nothing to do with the quality of the car, meaning the WDC is more telling as to the chassis' quality.

Yeah 1983 was a case where both Renault and Brabham had a designated #1 driver and Ferrari didn't, which is why Ferrari won the WCC. There's also the case of having drivers get injured or killed, like in Ferrari's 1982 and 1999 WCCs.
