I can see a huge outrage the first time someone designs a drone that's 3D printable with a gun built into it that fires a few rounds. It's not like a huge implausible situation there already are gun drones like not like "military" but actual drones that carry guns and shoot them. http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/21/us/gun-drone-connecticut/

Nonsense posted:Someone attached an actual pistol, fired off a few rounds on video, and got in trouble, but nothing further is known (if he was even booked). At least he wasn't doing it in his backyard. Yeah it was the most basic thing as well. So yeah, once someone actually comes out with a design where you 3D print part of the drone, then you "self install" the other parts you'll most certainly see it occur. Also, I give it 2 years tops before someone uses a drone for murdering someone, like a civilian drone used to murder someone. edit: Oh it was a teenager that designed the drone and built it. Double Edit: Someone explain the big deal with drones btw, because to me it's just remote controlled fancy copter and we've had those for years. Yeah I still don't get the whole drone thing to me it's just fancy remote control airplanes with a camera, really don't see the different between them and a RC car. edit: Now that Marijuana Dispensaries are making real money, they can donate to real PACs, specifically SuperPacs so I see Marijuana being de scheduled across the US in 10 years or less. We live in a Acceleration Culture, because of our information technonologies it's easier to connect with supporters and coordinate better organizations and such.

Hobnob posted:The answer, of course, will be autonomous anti-drone drones patrolling your airspace. Firing air-to-air tangle nets, presumably. I think that it has more to do with the application of the mechanical trigger, like you couldn't make Aliens Auto Turrets and set them out on your front lawn, but you could just build it and never use it.

Nintendo Kid posted:In many areas, you could probably erect a tall mesh roof over your yard if you really wanted, and maybe even mount things inside it to make it hard to see through, while still having air flow. 3D printing whether economical or not is a favorite of gun nuts now, because they all think that it's their back up plan when the government comes to take their guns. Also, designing a real drone that isn't just a handgun taped to a rc copter would be something someone would come up with.

Re-Scheduling Marijuana and still keeping in place efforts to shut down black market weed dealers and imports will be in 10 years. States may go along with it but it's smarter and saves more money to just re schedule it similar to alchohol and cigarrettes then go after black market production. Give it 5 years and Colorado and Oregan making $$$$$$$$$$$$$ for lawmakers to go " Hrmmmm, it brings in massive profits and they donate to us? Hell yeah!" Republican's will just reframe it as a "states rights issue".

They would have to stagger the releases over several years in order to not create just a huge homeless population and automatic crime rate increase if there are not in place retraining etc.. otherwise you just released a huge number in the 100,000 into the population who don't have work, possibly no place to live, and with a recidivism of 80 percent I think in the US you would most certainly see a uptick in crime. Basically releasing 100s of thousands of people into the public with no structure in place for support would just result in a uptick in crime and homelessness.

Yeah, it's nice to say let's decriminalize weed but really if you did that you could create more problems.

I think I was operating on the false assumption that there was in fact over 100 thousand, apparently the number is closer to 50,000 for simple possession so really not that much to be absorbed. I just did some quick fact checking on it. It's still a large number but that would mean that a simple staggered release wouldn't ultimately have that much negative impact.

AreWeDrunkYet posted:Actually, (federal) medical marijuana would be something you couldn't get fired for due to the ADA. Currently doctors can only write recommendations because it's Schedule 1, but in a theoretical situation where it was rescheduled and a doctor provided a legitimate prescription, you could not be fired for its use regardless of company policy. This is just like not true. The ADA doesn't work like that it's a civil rights law. quote:Sec. 12112. Discrimination There is absolutely nothing in the ADA that would allow you to get around a business firing you for Medical Marijuana.

I think the integration of technology in social movement's has been amazing for getting your message out to supporters as well as for logistical and coordination , however I also can point to like 4 "movements" in the past 3 years that have just burned out and gotten no further traction. If you want a great example compare the donations gained by the ice bucket challenge to awareness now about the issue. Another great one is Kony, does anyone even remember what that was about? Raising awareness is a great tactic, but it's not a fundamental strategy for causing social change unless the strategy is actually raise money. I'd rather have 500 people at a rally than 50,000 likes on Facebook. It' the whole Bernie Sander's thing as well as the vacuum effect. *Oh man Bernie Sanders is so great! I always liked that quote Rupaul had about the 90s it was something like " There was this small window where a few of us managed to sneak into the mainstream and then that window closed". The 90s were not a accepting time period despite what anyone says. Growing up in the 90s as someone who is queer sucked. If anything it will be Millennials that do make society more accepting. However they are hosed, like the world is just hosed.
