I went through start menu > settings > privacy last night to turn off anything I felt was too invasive. As it happened, it was all of the settings. I think my favorite one, which guarantees I will never have a phone that runs Win10, was the one that pretty much said 'allow apps to access and read your SMS, and send SMS if they want'.

Android phones can do this too, the permission are just per-app rather than a single switch in the settings.

Per app, and at least in my experience, when you're installing something from the Play store, it warns you pretty clearly how the app is going to violate your privacy before you install it. Lesson to take from this I suppose is "never, ever just go with 'express settings' on the install of anything, when you aren't getting all the details at the point of that decision."

it's hilarious to me that tech companies can just basically do whatever the gently caress they want because 50% of people are too computer illiterate to be able to form an opinion and 40%just straight don't give a poo poo or always go 'weren't they already doing that oh well.'

"oh yeah, that's a Microsoft technician ramming a giant anal probe down my rear end. That stuff has been going on fooooreeeeever, don't worry." also lol, newspaper are reporting that government workers and several companies are not allowing to connect any type of win10 machines to the their network or save work related staff on them. turns out you can not fully turn off the data mining and nobody know what exactly is being send to Microsoft. Cherry on top, some apps may ignore all your privacy settings and go full on a stalker on you, without your knowledge.
