At best that's 3 life and 3 mana to get two cards, and requires you to play a three-colour deck. That seems... really bad! Don't do it, Bernie, it's a trap card!

Nah, it's a pretty good card. Drawing three cards normally costs 2UU, and black draw cards are decent at 3B for the same effect. I wouldn't be shocked if it was run, especially with a new form of true dual land in the current set and the allied colour fetches currently in print.

Yeah but losing 3 life just to use one less mana drawing?

That seems really powerful. Too much so for the Republican house.

This is excellent, thematically. (A friend who knows more about M:tG than I do suggests a more succinct phrasing would be: "You may cast a card in your hand with converted mana cost greater than or equal to target spell. If you do, counter that spell.")

I made a mechanic: Basically the idea is that if something happens to make the spell you are casting undesirable (usually a counterspell in competitive play) you can "switch positions" and cast the Pivot spell instead. Enchantments also have a "policy" flavour, and making auras better is usually a good thing anyhow and gives the mechanic some versatility.

I wanted to try my hand at a common legend. Too complex? Edit: the original concept was for a hybrid w/b w/b, but there weren't hybrid card borders. Feel free to copy this in hybrid mana if that feels right to you.

Legendary never shows up at common rarity. They try to keep commons as straightforward as possible. Phyrexian mana may capture the flavour you're going for anyhow, though. e: It feels wrong to not credit Dees for his work Hodgepodge fucked around with this message at 17:03 on Sep 19, 2015 |
