I used to play hours upon hours of Dark Crusades multiplayer, some of the most fun ever in an RTS. The best maps were the ones that always ended in a massive 3v3 Thunderdome in the middle. The people I played with used to joke that my Commissars were killing more of my men than the enemy.
I will not give up hope until the very end. :(

If your Commissars aren't always low on ammo you're playing the guard wrong. If you will not serve in combat, then you will serve on the firing line.

I think their reasoning for no base defence is that they havent met an alien race so far that either doesent compleatly overwhelm them in fighting strength or are so weak that they will join the Tau if they just fire their guns a few times.
That makes sense.

It's so hard to respect a race that would lose a fistfight against a guardsman.

Among Black Library, there are two books, specifically starring the Sisters, that are widely considered to be some the finest portrayals of SoBs in all of 40K fluff. Both were authored by James Swallow, who decided that Sisters needed some attention and got to work. The first, Faith and Fire, has the Sisters battling with what are basically terrorist psykers on a shrine world while trying to uncover the reasons behind the attacks. Then there's the sequel, Hammer and Anvil. Remember reading about Santuary 101 up there? This book has them going back there and trying to figure out what happened. While saying too much would be spoiling it, it can be said that poo poo hits the fan hard and that the final battle is very epic stuff. Also, if you're feeling extra faithful, Swallow wrote an SoB audiobook called Red and Black. A prequel to Faith and Fire, it has the Sisters being sent to a recently rediscovered planet as representatives of the Imperium, and ultimately to judge it. Needless to say, things get complicated. Also features a Scottish SoB. So, you can help the Sisters by getting the above books so that Games Workshop and Black Library may decide to change their minds and give some love to these girls. Or at least give them some additional badass portrayals.
Cool, thanks a lot. :)
Now I just need to find them. My favorite store doesn't seem to carry them and importing to the EU can get pricy for whatever reasons. No loving ebooks! :flame:

also looking at say Horus Rising, it's $45 Aus for the hardback, $18 for the paperback, $20 for the ebook and $60 for the audio book.

The open top tautan is an awesome design if you think about it. Just imagine a third person action game where you run around and blast and slice up heretics and alien scum when the tautan stomps shuffles in you go full assault marine and jetpack up to it to chainsword the pilots before dropping a dozen grenades on the controls and zoom off to the next one. Storm boyz would also work of course.

-Gun servitors are bloody useless against anything.
-Witches and heretics must burn.

It's not that hard to figure out you need all your heroes to be strong and to have survival skills. There are three very different parts to take I think only one has the evil sorceresses so it's not too bad. It's not a surprise that the last boss is going to be a powerful hero with a large army but you don't know the exact specifics so you need to pick up good skills and spells.
