Banks destroyed the economy and individual lives through housing and now are surprised that no one wants to buy a house. Almost as stupid as schools who have put millions of people into debt and are now surprised no one goes to college anymore. some people are just really dumb, and not like in an intellectual sense, they just aren't able to plan for poo poo. Change majors half a dozen times at a private/large public university, saying "LOL I am gonna be so screwed by debt when I graduate!" without thinking how they can minimize the impact, stuff like that. I know someone who is going to be in the high five figures range in debt getting a library science degree at Duke after changing majors twice. If you do that you have no one to blame but yourself.

You can join the coast guard in a clerical position and get your college not only 100% paid for, but also get paid a minimum income while in school. Not only that, but with veteran status you can easily be awarded grants to boost your quality of life even more. This poo poo isn't hard, people are just too used to taking the easy route of checking a box to pay for it.

Yeah, I sure wish I had joined the military in 2002 instead of going to school. It would've been a risk free way to get my education paid for and not at all an idiot idea that couldn't possibly be available for every person who needs assistance paying exorbitant tuition fees

I thought about joining the Coast Guard when I graduated HS for those reasons. Then I found out that instead of guarding the coast they wanted to deploy me to Iraq to guard their coast and I said 'lol gently caress off.' Same with the reserves.

I feel like our students shouldn't have to go to a literal war zone to be able to pay for school.

Plus just from a macroeconomics point of view it's dumb as gently caress that we are making our students compete in a global marketplace with all these free trade laws and whatever but while other (smarter) countries are subsidizing education so their workforce can stay competitive, we're making it harder and harder to do the same. What's the end goal there besides cheap labor for big companies?

I also don't need to mow the lawn out in loving 110 degree weather or pay some dudes 60 bucks a month to do it for me

it also owns not paying 160 a month in homeowners insurance and an extra 40 a month in hoa fees like my dad does, instead just 12 bucks a month for renter's insurance

when I'm in a stable career I'll probably buy close to work though after I've saved up a nice chunk o' change, but right now I just rent luxury and piss away 1.5 grand a month while everyone chastises me "dude that's a mortgage payment buy a house" no gently caress you
