neither youtubes mobile site nor its iphone app allow you to see the notifications pane where recent replies to comments are. means you have to go to the full site on the phone and pan around real carefully to open the window and squint real hard to read it all because it scales outside of the screen if you try to expand it. google is a multibillion dollar company that has owned youtube for almost a decade now and they still have not addressed this.

in fact numerous web site's mobile versions (mostly news sites) are decidedly worse than the full version because they either lack the same content, don't allow you to zoom on photos or save them, or remove entire sections of navigation space or functionality. only a few have adopted the practice of having the same, but scaling, ui for both the desktop and phone versions. all this advertising money goes into phones and people talk such a big game about the mobile web world and no one even thinks about the first thing of how it might present to the viewer, everything is put together slapdash with no regard for actually using the site fluidly. what are all these mobile developers paid to do, it should be much simpler and easier to create a good mobile site than a desktop site.

Melmac posted:Just tell your mobile browser to make the useragent think you are on a desktop and enjoy i do, but the desktop site wasn't built for mobile so you have to scroll around a lot. it's a fix but not a solution. the solution is for them to not half rear end and gently caress up their mobile websites. mobile web browsing is incredibly cumbersome for no reason, and the current trend of every site putting up an unignorable window/screen of "oh just use the mobile app!" seems like more of a dodge than a benefit. it would be nice to have the web browser open apps seamlessly for starters (if its already installed on the phone). now every site bugs you incessantly even if you already have the app. mobile web browsing is a mess. unintegrated and sloppy. its like the one platform they have to make a seamless experience since there's only 2 browsers almost every phone uses (safari and chrome) and bla bla bla bla bla

the usps employee site is a mess. dead links, archaic IE version requirements for some of the scripts, baffling and often absent indexes. basically, don't work for the postal service if you can avoid it.
