They make you attend mandatory Re-employment sessions where you get to sit with 60 other unemployed people and listen to this dude say it's going to be okay, and if you want to get hired dont use an email address that says dickcum52@yahoo.com. Then he goes on to explain that companies cannot discriminate against age, race, etc. 40 loving hands go up and are waving in the air asking if they can sue for lots of money if they really ask how old you are, etc. heh, yeah it's because all black people are happily employed/seeking work by yankin those boot straps

Yeah just as I suspected, the private sector doesn't have to abide by those rules if they aren't doing government contracts. Being a vet is the bedrock of your background that should establish your credibility and trustworthiness, but it shouldn't be your main set of job skills/qualifications. Hey everyone, I'm employed but almost gave my notice last week. This week it looks like I'm getting promoted but we were supposed to have that meeting today and it didn't happen. Instead I'm supposed to meet my boss next Tuesday at 4:20. Does this mean he's going to smoke me out and then "negotiate" my salary?

Just lie on your résumé. If a résumé full of lies is good enough for MIT and the CEO of Yahoo, by God, it's good enough for a Starbucks shift lead. I will totally be a fake reference for you. No joke.

I was laid off from my first real job after only 8 weeks. This was in April 2003. I spent most of 2003 looking for a new job, without any success. Meanwhile, I was starting to live at night, getting out of bed at noon, that sort of thing. In December 2003 I developed depression and acute insomnia which made things even worse. I was on quite heavy sleeping medication for a while. In January 2004, due to my father pulling some strings here and there, I got a temp job at a government agency. This helped bring some structure into my life. Since then, I have never been unemployed, and I have switched jobs about 5 times. What I am trying to say is: To all the goons who are looking forward to being unemployed for an extended period of time without any money to spend, its not as fun as you might be thinking. To the vet in this thread, if you're status as one isn't getting you a job then you're applying in the wrong places. To everyone, what state do you all live in? I live in Cali and have never been off more than a few months in between jobs. Is the problem not finding work or not finding work that's going to pay enough to support what you have going on as far as housing and all that? Edit: For those in Cali looking for work PM me. I can't get you a job but I may be able to help point you in a very good direction. NObodiesGeek fucked around with this message at 08:35 on Aug 27, 2015 |

I jacked off for 18 months after college and I'm starting a job in september. Not a bad experience but I wouldn't do it again. Being in a socialist hell helps a lot too, I'd be dead in 3 months in the US. I kept exercising, cooking healthy and wasting money here and there for social purposes.

I work for a university and I think my group is going to get rolled up into another one in some sort of consolidation. I think I'll be fine, but I kinda get this distinct feeling my managers and director are fighting for their jobs currently. If they all get shitcanned and us grunts don't it's gonna be weird.

Also re: employment history, its one of the first things I see people looking at when you are out looking for jobs. If you haven't been in a spot for like 2 years they don't really like that. I've been looking for jobs for a while now. I have about 5 years in my industry, mostly in sales though, am a disabled Iraqi veteran, a minority, and pretty good at my job. I'm being told I don't have enough experience or the skillset they are looking for, despite being pretty well qualified for a lot of the stuff, and I'm not even getting interviews. Just lol at this job market.

Being unemployed sucks, society makes you feel worthless and you have to watch your savings dwindle away month after month of job hunting. Being employed sucks too, your employers will work you like a dog with no expectation of a raise and constantly remind you that you're just another replaceable cog. Sometimes I have the nagging feeling I would be happier as a primitive hunter-gatherer, doing things that actually matter and are directly correlated to my survival, instead of being a glorified slave generating vast amounts of wealth for people I will never meet. I feel pretty hopeless these days.
