I work with a lot of chinese scientists and my girlfriend is taiwanese, I've asked about stereotypes and the two most common I've heard are kind of backhanded compliments: 1. Americans are really friendly. This can be seen as a positive, but also implies a lack of boundaries and formalities when meeting new people in a more casual setting. 2. If you were to walk into a room full of people from all over the world, the first person to introduce themselves to you is probably an american. This again can be seen as a positive in taking initiative but a negative in lacking humility.
