I think it's fair to say you'll get relatively sick of roughly the same maps after 20+ hours. When news broke there was basically only two areas (as large as they may be) I was pretty disappointed.

I'm still incredibly excited. I mean, I am sick and tired of Camp Omega, but it is still a really well designed map and getting bored of the location didn't stop me from dumping 100 hours into the game. Still, variety is nice.

It's great that all these people that hate Metal Gear games got the game early. :stonkhat:

The precision of a mouse just didn't seem necessary to me in GZ except for the Kojima mission. And that's only if you wanted to Pacifist the Kojima mission. TPP isn't going to be Arma. You won't have to be super precise with your shots. It will depend a lot more on knowing the bullet drop on your weapons instead of fast twitch aiming.

It depends on quickly you can line up shots with a stick versus a mouse. For instance, I suck at acquiring targets with a stick. I'm great at it with a mouse.

In this case, it means I can actually turn off Reflex and get a nice score boost and still manage it because I can quickly shoot people in the head with a Tranq gun if they spot me but before they can yell out and sound the alarm in GZ.

Ah. I just got used to Hard mode in GZ where tranq rounds are at a premium. Incorporating CQC made shutting down those guards that spotted me before they could raise an alert more reliable. If you're far away, it's still difficult to headshot with the mk22 quickly because the the bullet drop. CQC is much better with a controller.

Grizzled Patriarch posted:

I'm sure there's some tech tree where you can eventually research a tranq pistol with a permanent integral suppressor or something. In Peace Walker one of the pistols gained an infinite suppressor at rank 3, and the others, when fully upgraded, where functionally infinite too unless you are blind and need like 10 shots to put down every enemy.

Suppressor durability felt pretty good in GZ for the rifle and the SMG. Enough to take out basically the entire base if you are slow, steady, and accurate, but not enough to go Rambo-ing through the base with impunity.

Plus there will probably be places to find replacements in the open world, like MGS3.

edit: PW also had the MP5SD with an infinite suppressor, and the max-rank Mosin could be fired like 70 times before it wore off, which is like double the number of guards in even the lengthiest missions.

I hope it's explained why you no longer have suppressor technology and have to research it again. Even if its a stupid reason. I just want a reason.

Yes, but you don't just forget how to make something. They had the ability to remake MB shortly after BB wakes up from a coma. Surely the old MB had some offsite storage.

But sure, they just didn't have offsite data storage or backup. No copies at all. I said a stupid reason would be fine. I just want someone in the game to say that.

So the only way to unlock the trials trophy on GZ is to do the first trial on each mission? Is there a faster way I'm missing? I thought people said you have to beat every one on hard and do one trial?

Beat each mission on Normal, do the marking trial on Normal, then beat each mission on Hard twice. That unlocks all trials.

Think of Hard this way: all guards have doubled effective vision. On Normal you can generally crouch/crawl up to about 15m in open environments, and sprint at 50m, while Hard ratchets it up to 30m and 100m respectively. Don't get me started about how effective they are on Alert.... AA guns :stare:

They're still garbage at pursuing and finding you during an alert though. That's one thing I hope TPP improves on, and I think it will. GZ even on Hard, you don't have to do much to get out of it. Just run, hide in a bush, and wait.

I feel like I'm playing SUPER slow. I need to just start churning through the story. And not trying to be non-lethal and stealthy on the Side Ops since they're not graded. The combat is so good and satisfying but it's against my Metal Gear instinct. Time to murder every E and D ranked garbage soldier.

Also I'm terrible at this game. I S-ranked the prologue, managed an A on the Kaz rescue mission, but everything since has been Gentleman's Bs.

I was watching a friend play the Kaz mission last night, after having played it myself. He was just running and gunning, skipping cutscenes, doing no pre-infiltration intel, etc. It just seemed so pointless -- not unfun, but he was missing a lot. It took him 17 minutes vs. my 2 hours, but I felt the careful planning and reconnaissance was more rewarding. The only time it's not is when a half hour of scoping an area out blows up in your face because you missed one soldier and he puts the whole place on alert, but whatever!

I'm gonna keep playing at a snail's pace for now, as long as it doesn't become boring. It's adding a whole lot of playtime value.

My one gripe about the game is if I spend a bunch of time on a mission and then some unmarked guy sees me, having to start over is a real bitch. The insertion cut scene and Kaz or Ocelot briefing gets super old. Wish that was skippable. I'm taking my time, but if I'm already 15 minutes in to a mission I just need to let myself finish it. And go back later to do it the "right" way.

How many prisoners has everybody been finding in the main ops? I have located NONE. The only Main Op I have left right now is the Bee one.

Also, I have only gotten Big Boss killed once. At Mother Base looking for all the range targets. :bang:

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the umph sound Ocelot makes when you tranq him in the dick is perfect. He acknowledges it hurts, but he's not going to make a big deal about it. Probably injects himself every day with something to counteract the tranq juice because he knows you're gonna shoot him in the dick again.

Seriously, I'm confused about the Side Op mission accessible in Mission 3. Something about a special target guy to acquire... its a big purple area circle (with a river bisecting it) where just north of it (outside of the circle) is like the Yakoo Ooboo (?) base. I interrogated a few guys and they were like "Here's a specialist!" and my map updated and I couldn't tell where/who that was... or even if I was still in the mission area.
