what is Mr. Popo's power level

well mr popo was handily able to beat goku when goku first arrived at kami's lookout, but goku is more than able to keep up with him once he finishes his training.

later on, raditz is able to read goku's power level as 750 once he's taken off his weighted clothing. raditz is able to easily defeat both goku and piccolo (until goku grabs his tail) and vegeta later implies raditz's power level is around 1,200.

goku and piccolo, during the piccolo jr saga, were obviously much stronger than mr popo, but presumably much weaker than they are five years later at the beginning of dragon ball z, so we could probably estimate their power levels at that point at around 500.

so I would say we could estimate mr popo's power level at between 200 and 400, probably towards the lower end of that.

power levels are bullshit

well if you go on the non-canon sources it's all random nonsense, like the power levels of dragon ball characters stated in daizenshuu are directly in conflict with what happened during the series

but in canon sources it all seems fairly consistent, but they drop the concept of numbered power levels in the genyu saga because if they didn't it just would have been continuously ridiculously large numbers. at that point goku's power level was 180,000.

if in death you just kick it with your friends & family in the afterlife in your own body then who gives a gently caress about death? what consequence is there to being dead?

most people don't get any kind of afterlife. only really, really strong people get to keep their full bodies in otherworld. when krillin is killed in dragon ball he just disappears until he's revived and he can't remember anything afterwards. same with chiaotzu. by the time the vegeta saga comes around and piccolo, yamcha, tien, and chiaotzu are killed by nappa, they're all strong enough to keep their bodies. same with krillin getting killed (again) by frieza later on.

in the majin buu saga when the supporting characters are killed they get to keep their consciousness as those ghost things as a special favour from the kais.

you rarely see bulma and vegeta together but it's implied a few times that they are generally really unhappy together, but love each other deep down regardless, which is a really weird idea to western audiences but I suspect is really familiar to japanese people

Mr. Satan is the strongest regular human on the planet

if being stronger than him is enough to disqualify yamcha, tien, chiaotzu, krillin, and master roshi from being "regular" humans then I guess? but at that point the statement is tautological.

also, reminder that vegeta willingly surrendered himself to babidi and butchered hundreds of innocent people and was planning on basically abandoning his wife and young child just for the chance to be stronger than goku

in dragon ball there is an episode where a pedo gay villain hits on a little boy and in the spanish dub they changed the little boy to a girl

we're talking about like a five-year-old, the latino networks were like "whoa, we can't have a man trying to sexually harass a five-year-old boy on television, better change him to a five-year-old girl"

in the english dub they changed the dialogue completely to the villain mistaking the little boy for an otherwise unmentioned long-lost brother

nationality doesn't seem to exist in dragon ball's world. that said, characters in anime that are explicitly stated to be asian (for example as in anything that explicitly takes place in japan... death note, sailor moon, inuyasha) generally do not look characteristically distinct from characters explicitly stated to be white (for example, the cast of gunslinger girl).

but then black people in anime are like literally modeled on minstrel show actors.

If it helps, the bad guy had a bunch of different forms he would change to when he was losing.

that was cell. goku doesn't kill him, though, gohan does. goku and gohan train in the hyperbolic time chamber together.

Like in the namek saga when the saiyans almost died they came back stronger after they healed up. They had a word for this but I cant remember it but it was specifically a Saiyan trait

Same thing with Cell. He got blown to poo poo and came back stronger because he had saiyan cells in him

"Why dont saiyans just beat the poo poo out of eachother and heal up and get stronger each time then, Zzulu??" that's called a plot hole son

it's specifically stated that this was sometimes done on planet vegeta, before it got blown up. but the saiyan has to actually get close to death, not simply get beaten up, and saiyans on planet vegeta were fond of killing each other if they got too strong, so it wasn't something any given person would just do all the time.

when vegeta arrives on planet namek, he turns on frieza because he knows that after getting nearly crushed to death on earth, he's now much stronger. he's easily able to kill most of frieza's henchmen (it's implied they previously were much stronger than vegeta), but not frieza himself. when he finds out that dende can heal people, he convinces krillin to mortally wound him, then dende to heal him, so that he will become stronger and be able to fight frieza. he becomes strong enough to force frieza to transform, but still loses. :rip:

later on when he lives on earth vegeta takes to flying to planets with hostile environments, training under intense gravity and heat, which is how he eventually becomes strong enough to become a super saiyan.

Fonzarelli posted:

Why don't they use scouters more later in the series? Seems like a good way to assess all of these transformations and forms quickly.

when raditz (and later vegeta and nappa) arrive on earth, the main characters are all immediately able to sense their power, both how strong they are and where. it's implied that, elsewhere in the galaxy, this ability is unknown. when vegeta is recuperating from his fight with goku and gohan, he realises that they were able to sense his power no matter where he was without having to rely on technology to do it, and that this gave them a tactical advantage. he spends his recuperation reflecting on this and eventually figures out how to do it himself. he tests out his ability (iirc, by tracing down some of frieza's henchmen and killing them while they're off on their own) and then confidently crushes his scouter, realising he no longer needs it.

the last power level ever read from a scouter was goku's, at 180,000. my guess is they decided to do away with them because the prospect of increasingly ridiculously large numbers seemed boring, and they were right.
