Pretty long and detailed piece on weight-cutting. Not much there that anyone paying attention didn't already know, but it puts it all in one place and discusses a lot of the things that promotions and ACs are doing or contemplating to mitigate the issue.

fatherdog posted:Pretty long and detailed piece on weight-cutting. I know it's probably a crazy idea, but I wonder if it wouldn't be safer to weigh in 2 (or more, even) days before the fight. The same day weigh-ins are a terrible idea and I feel like periodically measuring body fat during camp or dehydration using the gravity testing is always going to be us chasing something and never catching it. Not to mention how pissed off any of us would be if a big fight got called off because someone's pee was too dense or whatever. e: Also I remember Novitzky talking about this on Rogan's show and I think he said people take about 36 hours to fully rehydrate. This could encourage people to kill themselves to make weight thinking they'll get two days to recover but also could just let people get the full amount of time needed to recover. Because we're never going to stop people from cutting weight. DumbWhiteGuy fucked around with this message at 03:11 on Sep 1, 2015 |

Here is my updated monthly sperg for the next however-the-gently caress-many events, for reference purposes. Because adderall doesn't snort itself. This post may or may not be subject to frequent updates. Other organizations broadcast on UFC Fight Pass such as Invicta, Titan FC, and Shooto Brazil are included. Fighters making their UFC debut are denoted with a 'D'. Events that happened at least 7 days ago are now deleted, because apparently I've discovered the BBcode formatting tag limit for individual posts on SA. Upcoming UFC Events Eurasia Fight Nights: Dagestan Fight Pass September 25 - Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia Main Card: 1PM ET/10AM PT Quick Summary: No seriously, this is an actual thing on Fight Pass. No I have no idea what the gently caress. However, this 12-fight card is curiously headlined by Bellator Heavyweight Champion Vitaly Minakov RUS (15-0) vs. Geronimo dos Santos BRA (36-15). Which is pretty loving funny. Full card here. UFC Fight Night Saitama – Fox Sports 1 September 26 - Saitama, Japan Main Card: 10PM ET/7PM PT | Prelims: 8PM ET/5PM PT Quick Summary: Josh Barnett has come to save the soul of Japanese MMA. Vs Main Card – Fox Sports 1 @ 10PM ET/7PM PT Heavyweight: Josh Barnett (#8) (33-7) vs. Roy Nelson (#11) (20-11) Middleweight: Gegard Mousasi (#6) (37-5-2) vs. Uriah Hall (11-5) Flyweight: Kyoji Horiguchi (#7) (15-2) vs. Chico Camus (#13) (14-6) Bantamweight: Takeya Mizugaki (#8) (20-9-2) vs. George Roop (15-11-1) Featherweight: Katsunori Kikuno (22-7-2) vs. Diego Brandao (19-10) Road to UFC Japan Featherweight Finals: Mizuto Hirota (7-2-1) vs. Teruto IshiharaD (17-7-1) Prelims – Fox Sports 2 @ 8PM ET/5PM PT Welterweight: Keita Nakamura (30-6-2) vs. Jingliang Li (10-3) Lightweight: Yusuke KasuyaD (9-1-2) vs. Nick Hein (12-2) Welterweight: Naoyuki Kotani (33-12-7) vs. Kajan Johnson (20-11-1) Welterweight: Shinso Anzai (8-2) vs. Roger ZapataD (4-1) Shooto Brazil 57 - Fight Pass September 27 - Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Main Card: 6PM ET/3PM PT Quick Summary: The card can be found here. I'm no longer bothering with listing fights for third-tier FightPass events beyond headliners, but even the headliner seems like filler here. So, meh, . UFC 192 – PPV October 3 - Houston, Texas, USA Main Card: 10PM ET/7PM PT | Prelims: 8PM ET/5PM PT | Early Prelims: 6:15PM ET/3:15PM PT Quick Summary: If you can look past the fact that all four LHWs in the main and co-main have already lost to Jon Jones (three lost badly), this is a fairly stacked card with lots of fun and relevant fights (albeit most fights are only one or the other). Vs Vs Main Card – PPV @ 10PM ET/7PM PT Light Heavyweight Championship: Daniel Cormier (C) (16-1) vs. Alexander Gustafsson (#2) (16-3) Welterweight: Johny Hendricks (#1) (17-3) vs. Tyron Woodley (#3) (15-3) Light Heavyweight: Ryan Bader (#4) (19-4) vs. Rashad Evans (#5) (18-6) Heavyweight: Shawn Jordan (19-4) vs. Ruslan Magomedov (13-1) Bantamweight: Jessica Eye (#6) (11-3) vs. Julianna Pena (#12) (6-2) Prelims – Fox Sports 1 @ 8PM ET/5PM PT Flyweight: Joseph Benavidez (#1) (22-4) vs. Ali Bagautinov (#14) (13-3) Featherweight: Yair Rodriguez (5-1) vs. Dan Hooker (12-5) Welterweight: Alan Jouban (12-3) vs. Albert Tumenov (15-2) Strawweight: Rose Namajunas (#4) (2-2) vs. Angela Hill (2-1) Early Prelims – Fight Pass @ 6:15PM ET/3:15PM PT Lightweight: Adriano Martins (27-7) vs. Islam Makhachev (12-0) Welterweight: Sage NorthcuttD (5-0) vs. Francisco Trevino (12-1) Flyweight: Chris Cariaso (#10) (17-7) vs. Sergio Pettis (12-2) Heavyweight: Derrick Lewis (12-4) vs. Viktor Pesta (10-1) Pancrase 270 – Fight Pass October 4 - Tokyo, Japan 2AM ET/11PM PT (October 3rd Pacific Time) Quick Summary: Pancrase is your latest addition to FightPass, and no I am not listing all that. Partly because even I have a limit on this stuff, and partly because there are 25 loving fights on this card, which is headlined by Andy MainUSA (10-2-1) vs. Nam PhanUSA (21-14) at Featherweightish. UFC Fight Night Dublin – Fight Pass October 24 - Dublin, Ireland Main Card: 4PM ET/1PM PT | Prelims: 12:45PM ET/9:45AM PT Quick Summary: Cool main event between two very dangerous lightweights, even if it's not immediate- ly relevant to the title picture. The co-main is a really huge fight for a Fight Pass card and Ben Rothwell is cool now, so enjoy. Vs Main Card – Fight Pass @ 4PM ET/1PM PT Lightweight: Joe Duffy (14-1) vs. Dustin Poirier (#13) (18-4) Heavyweight: Stipe Miocic (#3) (13-2) vs. Ben Rothwell (#7) (35-9) Welterweight: Darren Till (13-0) vs. Nicolas Dalby (14-0) Flyweight: Patrick Holohan (12-1-1) vs. Louis Smolka (9-1) Prelims – Fight Pass @ 12:45PM ET/9:45AM PT Lightweight: Norman Parke (20-4-1) vs. Reza Madadi (13-3) Lightweight: Stevie Ray (18-5) vs. Mickael Lebout (14-4-1) Flyweight: Neil Seery (15-11) vs. Jon delos Reyes (8-4) Middleweight: Scott Askham (13-1) vs. Krzysztof Jotko (15-1) Strawweight: Aisling Daly (#15) (15-6) vs. Ericka Almeida (7-1) Welterweight: Cathal Pendred (17-3-1) vs. Tom Breese (8-0) Featherweight: Robert Whiteford (12-2) vs. Darren Elkins (18-5) Middleweight: Garreth McLellan (12-3) vs. Bubba Bush (8-2) UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo – Fox Sports 1 November 7 - Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil Main Card: 10PM ET/7PM PT | Prelims: 8PM ET/5PM PT | Early Prelims: 6:30PM ET/3:30PM PT Quick Summary: If you're rooting against Hendo and are not Brazilian (or possibly even if you are), you are a horrible person who hates freedom, democracy, and the elderly. Vs Main Card – Fox Sports 1 @ 10PM ET/7PM PT Middleweight: Vitor Belfort (#4) (24-11) vs. Dan Henderson (#12) (31-13) Light Heavyweight: Glover Teixeira (#3) (23-4) vs. Patrick Cummins (#9) (8-2) Light Heavyweight: Fabio Maldonado (#12) (22-8) vs. Tom Lawlor (#15) (10-5) Bantamweight: Thomas Almeida (#10) (20-0) vs. Anthony Birchak (12-2) Lightweight: Gilbert Burns (10-0) vs. Rashid Magomedov (18-1) Featherweight: Thiago Tavares (19-6-1) vs. Clay Guida (#11) (32-15) Prelims – channel TBA @ 8PM ET/5PM PT Lightweight: Gleison Tibau (33-11) vs. Abel Trujillo (12-6) Lightweight: Yan Cabral (12-1) vs. Johnny Case (21-4) Bantamweight: Pedro Munhoz (12-1) vs. Jimmie Rivera (17-1) Featherweight: Edimilson Souza (15-3) vs. Chas Skelly (14-1) Early Prelims – Fight Pass 1 @ 6:30PM ET/3:30PM PT Lightweight: Alex Oliveira (12-2-1) vs. Piotr Hallman (15-4) Welterweight: Viscardi Andrade (17-6) vs. Gasan Umalatov (15-4-1) Bantawmweight: Matheus NicolauD (10-1) vs. Bruno KoreaD (4-0) UFC 193 – PPV November 15 - Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Main Card: 10PM ET/7PM PT | Prelims: 8PM ET/5PM PT | Early Prelims: 6:15PM ET/3:15PM PT Quick Summary: It's a practical guarantee that the main event shall bring (Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit has been replaced by Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm). Anyway this event is being run in a 70,000 seat stadium for some reason. Even with Rousey, this is highly confusing. Vs Vs Main Card – PPV @ 10PM ET/7PM PT Bantamweight Championship: Ronda Rousey (C) (12-0) vs. Holly Holm (#8) (9-0) Strawweight Championship: Joanna Jedrzejczyk (C) (10-0) vs. Valerie Letourneau (#9) (8-3) Heavyweight: Mark Hunt (#8) (10-10-1) vs. Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva (#11) (19-7-1) (26-10) Heavyweight: Stefan Struve (#15) (26-7) vs. Jared Rosholt (13-2) Middleweight: Robert Whittaker (#13) (14-4) vs. Michael Bisping (#7) (27-7) Prelims – Fox Sports 1 @ 8PM ET/5PM PT Lightweight: Jake Matthews (8-1) vs. Arkbarh Arreola (23-9-1) Welterweight: Kyle Noke (21-7-1) vs. Peter Sobotta (15-4-1) Light Heavyweight: Anthony Perosh (15-9) vs. Gian Villante (13-6) Middleweight: Daniel Kelly (9-1) vs. Steve Montgomery (8-3) Early Prelims – Fight Pass @ 6:15PM ET/3:15PM PT Welterweight: Steve Kennedy (22-7) vs. Richard Walsh (8-3) Flyweight: Ben Nguyen (13-5) vs. Ryan Benoit (8-3) Welterweight: Brendan O'Reilly (6-1) vs. James Moontasri (8-3) Flyweight: Richie Vaculik (10-3) vs. Danny Martinez (17-7) UFC Fight Night Monterrey – Fox Sports 1 November 21 - Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico Main Card: 10PM ET/7PM PT | Prelims: 8PM ET/5PM PT | Early Prelims: Time TBA Quick Summary: Hardly an all-star line-up, but Matt Brown is always fun. Diego Sanchez making his Featherweight debut may or may not be cringe-worthy. This is also the TUF Latin America 2 Finale, so expect a bunch of fun fights between scrubs. Vs Card in Progress Main Card – Fox Sports 1 @ 10PM ET/7PM PT Welterweight: Kelvin Gastelum (#15) (11-1) vs. Matt Brown (#5) (20-13) Lightweight: Efrain Escudero (24-9) vs. Leandro Silva (18-2-1) TUF Latin America Welterweight Finals: TBA vs. TBA TUF Latin America Lightweight Finals: TBA vs. TBA Flyweight: Henry Cejudo (#5) (9-0) vs. Jussier Formiga (#3) (18-3) Featherweight: Ricardo Lamas (#4) (15-4) vs. Diego Sanchez (25-7) Prelims Bantamweight: Erik Perez (#15) (14-6) vs. Damian Stasiak (8-3) Featherweight: Gabriel Benitez (18-4) vs. Andre Fili (14-3) Bantamweight: Alejandro Perez (15-6) vs. Scott Jorgensen (15-11) Welterweight: Hector Urbina (17-8-1) vs. Bartosz Fabinski (12-2) Lightweight: Valmir Lazaro (13-3) vs. Michel Prazeres (18-2) UFC Fight Night Seoul – Fight Pass November 28 - Seoul, South Korea Time TBA Quick Summary: Vs Card in Progress Main Card Welterweight: Benson Henderson (#6 LW) (22-5) vs. Thiago Alves (#13) (21-10) Heavyweight: Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic (31-11-2) vs. Anthony Hamilton (14-4) Welterweight: "Stun Gun" Dong Hyun Kim (20-3-1) vs. Jorge Masvidal (29-9) Welterweight: Yoshihiro Akiyama (14-5) vs. Alberto Mina (11-0) Prelims Welterweight: Hyun Gyu Lim (13-5-1) vs. Elizeu Zaleski (14-5) Middleweight: Dongi Yang (12-3) vs. Jake Collier (9-2) Featherweight: Doo Ho Choi (12-1) vs. Sam Sicilia (15-5) Featherweight: Yui Chul Nam (18-4) vs. Mike de la Torre (13-5) Lightweight: Tae Hyun Bang (17-9) vs. Leo Kuntz (17-2-1) Strawweight: Seo Hee Ham (15-6) vs. TBA Bantamweight: Ning Guangyou (5-2-1) vs. Marco Beltran (6-3) UFC Fight Night Las Vegas – Fight Pass December 10 - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Time TBA Quick Summary: Welp, that came together quick. This is largely an overflow card for people who are contractually owed fights, as the UFC ended up having six less events than originally planned this year before this card was tacked on. Still, it's perfectly fine for a Fight Pass card, unless you think WMMA is icky. Vs Main Card Strawweight: Paige VanZant (#6) (6-1) vs. Joanne Calderwood (#8) (10-1) Lightweight: Jim Miller (#15) (25-6) vs. Michael Chiesa (12-2) Bantamweight: Aljamain Sterling (#6) (11-0) vs. Johnny Eduardo (#10) (27-9) Welterweight: John Howard (23-11) vs. Tim Means (24-7-1) Prelims Middleweight: Elias Theodorou (11-0) vs. Thiago Santos (11-3) Middleweight: Kevin Casey (9-3) vs. Antonio Carlos Jr. (5-1) Welterweight: Lyman Good (19-3) vs. Omari Akhmedov (15-2) Welterweight: Santiago Ponzinnibio (9-1) vs. Andreas Stahl (19-3) Welterweight: Michael Graves (5-0) vs. Danny RobertsD (11-1) Featherweight: Phillipe Nover (11-5-1) vs. Zubaira Tukhugov (17-3) Strawweight: Kailin Curran (3-2) vs. Emily Kagan (3-2) Welterweight: Sheldon Westcott (8-3-1) vs. Edgar Garcia (14-4) The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale – Fox Sports 1 December 11 - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Time TBA Quick Summary: This might be the most stacked TUF Finale ever. Possibly due to the lack of TUF fights. Vs Card in Progress Main Card Featherweight: Frankie Edgar (#2) (19-4-1) vs. Chad Mendes (#3) (17-3) Lightweight: Khabib Nurmagomedov (#3) (22-0) vs. Tony Ferguson (#8) (19-3) TUF 22 Lightweight Finals: TBA vs. TBA Lightweight: Joe Lauzon (20-10) vs. Evan Dunham (16-6) Heavyweight: Gabriel Gonzaga (16-10) vs. Konstantin Erokhin (9-2) Welterweight: Ryan LaFlare (11-1) vs. Mike Pierce (17-6) Prelims Featherweight: Tatsuya Kawajiri (#13) (34-8-2) vs. Mirsad Bektic (10-0) Flyweight: Justin Scoggins (10-2) vs. Joby Sanchez (7-1) UFC 194 – PPV December 12 - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Main Card: 10PM ET/7PM PT | Prelims: 8PM ET/5PM PT | Early Prelims: 6:30PM ET/3:30PM PT Quick Summary: Jesus fuckballs this card is stacked. However, the Gods of MMA respect comedy, usually in the form of tragedy. A card this stacked is certainly not exempt from that rule. Vs Vs Main Card – PPV @ 10PM ET/7PM PT Featherweight Championship Unification: Jose Aldo (C) (25-1) vs. Conor McGregor (IC)(#1) (18-2) Middleweight Championship: Chris Weidman (C) (13-0) vs. Luke Rockhold (#1) (14-2) Middleweight: Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza (#2) (14-4) vs. Yoel Romero (#3) (27-7) Welterweight: Demian Maia (#6) (21-6) vs. Gunnar Nelson (#11) (14-1-1) Featherweight: Max Holloway (#5) (14-3) vs. Jeremy Stephens (#8) (24-11) Prelims – Fox Sports 1 @ 8PM ET/5PM PT Bantamweight: Urijah Faber (#4) (32-8) vs. Frankie Saenz (#13) (11-2) Strawweight: Tecia Torres (#5) (14-4) vs. Michelle Waterson (#11) (13-4) Lightweight: John Makdessi (13-4) vs. Yancy Medeiros (11-3) Welterweight: Court McGee (16-4) vs. Marcio Alexandre Jr. (11-2) Early Prelims – Fight Pass @ 6:30PM ET/3:30PM PT Lightweight: Joe Proctor (11-3) vs. Magomed Mustafaev (12-1) Welterweight: Colby Covington (16-4) vs. Warlley Alves (11-2) Lightweight: Kevin Lee (11-1) vs. Leonardo Santos (14-3-1) UFC on Fox 17 - Fox December 19 - Orlando, Florida, USA Main Card: 8PM ET/5PM PT | Prelims: 6PM ET/3PM PT | Early Prelims: Time TBA Quick Summary:[/sub] Vs Vs Card in Progress Main Card – Fox @ 8PM ET/5PM PT Lightweight Championship: Rafael dos Anjos (C) (24-7) vs. Donald Cerrone (#2) (28-6) Heavyweight: Junior dos Santos (#2) (17-3) vs. Alistair Overeem (#9) (39-14) Lightweight: Michael Johnson (#5) (16-9) vs. Nate Diaz (#14) (17-10) Middleweight: C.B. To be fair Summerslam was a really really bad show to start with outside of New Day, Owens/Cesaro, and everything in Lesnar/Undertaker except the end, then they decided to stretch it over four hours for incomprehensible reasons. The women's division is slowly, gruelingly getting better, Owens/Cesaro is turning into a blood feud, and New Day continues to be far and away the best thing on the roster. Otherwise it's a dumpster fire and John Cena is the gasoline. Yep, but it doesn't have the PPV events on it, because Dana White isn't the type of idiot that would gut his biggest money maker in an effort to forge ahead alone. What it does have, is every single past UFC event, and a whole ton of past events from companies that the UFC has since bought. I also like MMA because the grappling means people aren't getting their brains rearranged for 15 minutes straight like boxing. They can actually retire without suffering from CTE

Also keep in mind every year there's about 6-7 Fight Pass exclusive events. Last year we got a funny Japan card out of it and this year we got an actual title fight. The UFC is doing a lot better at getting PPV's up on Fight Pass and now the lag time is about 2 months, so if you absolutely can't buy a PPV or go to a BW3 you can still watch fights.

1st AD posted:Also keep in mind every year there's about 6-7 Fight Pass exclusive events. Last year we got a funny Japan card out of it and this year we got an actual title fight. Alrighty. I'll pick up fight pass after I get my paycheck this week (shut up I still have to budget things ok) and we'll see where it goes from there. Thanks!

This just kind of clicked into place for me: Andrei Arlovski named his pitbull the same thing as Frank Mir named his son (minus the "Ronin" because Andrei isn't a lunatic)

So who's looking forward to Joe Riggs' 57th MMA fight at UFC 191? Dude is 32 years old and looks like someone zombified Willem Dafoe and bleached his hair.
