An elderly Jewish friend of the family (who was not a Holocaust survivor himself) once told me a story of some well-intentioned do-gooders who ran a summer camp for child WWII refugees. The idea was to help the kids get in some positive experiences after all the horrors they'd witnessed. The counselors gathered all the children in the camp courtyard and said "OK kids, we're gonna take a shower!" and the kids turned around and scattered into the woods. It took hours to round them all up! No idea if that ever actually happened, and even if it did the kids could be excused for jumping to the worst possible conclusion because they were 1) kids and 2) Holocaust survivors. The adults in the news story are just dumb.

I was in Germany at the same time as karneval and wandered into a big street festival where there was a stage, bands, etc. And there was an announcer who was hyping up the crowd on a microphone in German and it reminded me of Hitler and it was triggering.
