Okay, so the Martian is basically a Sci-Fi castaway staring Matt Damon (in his second role as a stranded astronaut), but I think it is going to be a pretty solid movie. The book was pretty engaging and made for fun light reading, and the audiobook was superb. I am looking forward to seeing the movie and I felt like telling the Internet all about it!

okay that is my post. god bless you all and have a safe Labor Day!

Sounds cool but this just makes me think of how matt damon's role in Interstellar was the worst part of the movie.

I thought the book was only alright too, but I decided to give the audiobook version a shot since I had a free credit on Audible and I was pleasantly surprised! The voice actor does a great job, and it makes the story flow better when the logs are in Audio form. At least in this goons humble opinion.

Fair enough, I need to do something with my audible trial.

I found the book's dialogue to be weird and inappropriate contextually despite me being basically retarded.

Bowie and Elton John are always appropriate.

Yeah, the concept and science stuff was well thought out but the dialogue suffered from "hey, look, I'm a cool nerd."

I was initially skeptical but Matt Damon already played essentially the same role in Interstellar, maybe he can figure out what he did right/wrong in that role and bring some real acting muscle to The Martian; i.e., Interstellar was "guy stranded on another planet" trial/practice run, and we'll see a special performance in The Martian.

His character in The Martian is more in his wheelhouse, since he is a light hearted guy whose schtick is that he is funny, smart and affable (aka most of Damon's other characters). Just pretend he is Good Will Hunting in space and roll with it!

Yeah, but he's kind of on a streak right now.

I'd be happy if The Martian proves he can make good movies in the 2010's, but there's no way in hell I'm banking on it.
