I prefer dogs but I got no beef with cats. Cats are loving deliquents though, they give you nothing but expect everything from you. Least dogs will chill with you, are happy to see you when you get home, have a decent chance of protecting you etc.

I never understood people who were fiercely partisan about cats or dogs. They're both cool. Dogs can be a bit more interactive and adventurous, but require more attention and space. It's a tradeoff.

if you don't like cats then you haven't spent much time with them if you just meet somebody's cat they seem only kinda okay but if you spend a lot of time with a cat and become friends you will see that they are truly lovely and magical creatures with a subtle but incredibly deep bond and respect for you  this is my kitten Lola

it depends on the individual animal my barn cat is awesome and kills mice and rats really well, lives in the barn and never comes begging for food, but is also friendly with people i have some other cats that are worthless and just lay on the porch all day and whine for me to feed them (which i do because i suck) my dog is also awesome, likes people but doesnt jump up on them, she corners/trees raccoons and opossums and barks at them until i come shoot them, and chases off coyotes, and is friendly with the livestock my neighbors dogs on the other hand are annoying fucks that bark any time they see me and occasionally worm under my neighbor's lovely fence and chase my sheep, which is enough justification to kill them if i caught them in the act but i don't because my neighbor is an old widow and a generally nice lady some dogs/cats are cool and some aren't hth
