Another day, another sandbox MMO that is a spiritual successor to *insert popular sandbox game from a decade ago*... But this one is different because it's the spiritual successor to a game that never came out, World of Darkness by CCP.

quote:

Dogma is a massively multiplayer online game (MMORPG) genre sandbox (sandbox), which plunges you into the image of the vampire and talk about the survival of supernatural beings in modern cities. You will become one of the undead and join the large community of inhabitants of the night, hiding behind the scenes of the everyday life of ordinary mortals.

The development team is inspired by projects such as Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, EVE Online, Secret World, Assasin's Creed and other such games. We use elements of development of social interaction between players and NPC, the free movement of vast territories and cities, and try to recreate and preserve the unique gothic punk style gaming universe.

Dogma: Eternal Night - project to develop a new online universe. The concept of the project involves the creation of a series of interconnected MMORPG- and single games in one single world. Each of them will be dedicated to a particular kind of mystical creatures - vampires, werewolves, ghosts, demons and other legendary inhabitants of the night. Game mechanics of each game is different, but allow for interaction between them.

The plans of the team, the continuous development of the project and its parts for a long time. This development implies the continuous improvement of the game mechanics, components and elements of gameplay as well as graphics and software platform.

The project is developed on the background of the desire of a small team of young developers to revive the canceled 2014 MMORPG World of Darkness Online. Since then, successfully continues the development efforts of an independent team with the support of the gaming community.

quote:

Thousands of players online, all on one server.
Cities and monuments, adapted from the real world.
Dynamic environment - your deeds can influence others, as well as the world.
No Boundaries - develop your character the way you want.
There are no class or level restrictions. Plenty of opportunities for social encounters, allowing you to establish contacts, intermingle with other players and make deals with your enemy.
The possibility of death will keep you on edge and force you to carefully think through your actions.
Live in-game events. Bringing the players and main story-arc characters together, whom you know, love and possibly hate from the Dogma story while encompassing all facets of the MMORPG world(PvP, RP and PvE).

Here's the August update: http://projectdogmat.com/en/2015/08/30/august-update/

:siren:Alright, now they have a new deal where people who back using referral links have chances of winning packages. Since I've already thrown $60 at this, if I win something, I'll make this package the community account so non-beta backers can check it out for themselves a bit earlier.

If I get in during alpha, I'll document everything thoroughly. Toss em' $25 if you're interested, it's a cool project. You lose nothing if they don't get funded.

Oh drat, the top prize is personalized content. I'll make you guys part of canon or some poo poo, and instead of having a personal apartment, we'll have a mansion:siren:

Is a Dogmat a Sandbox with fluff instead of sand and a dog sleeping on it?

I was eagerly awaiting the WoD MMO, and highly disappointed when it was cancelled. I'll be keeping a close eye on this, for sure.

We'll see in October, but they've done a Russian kickstarter and used the funding to buy motion capture hardware (which was my biggest expense/barrier in game development starting out). If they market it correctly and they really improve on the demonstration, I think they have a lot of potential of delivering a decent sandbox experience.

Not getting a vampire MMO out during the height of the vampire craze was a huge mistake by a lot of people, at this point not many people are going to care. Unless it's actually good, but lol.

It's about time for my once per decade ban for being a consistently terrible poster.
Well they are literally making a knockoff WoD mmorpg, not just a vampire game. They are just starting with vampires [And humans to some degree]. The Eastern European Game Making lottery almost always hits "massively flawed", but it surprisingly hits "massively interesting" at a decent clip too. Depending on how dedicated they are, it could turn out to be an interesting game. The fact they used Russian funbux campaign to pick up motion capture hardware is a good sign. It seems like they are giving it a serious go at least.

e: End of the day I place good money on this being an entertaining train wreck at worst.

Doubt they'll touch the MMO even though they have the assets. Unfortunately. Best case scenario, we get a decent single player RPG.

I was at EVE Fan fest 2012 and sat in the roundtable where they showcased WoD with the Atlanta team (RIP) all there seeming very enthusiastic. Seemed like an awesome concept, and was presented in conjunction with DUST 514 as part of CCP's plan to take over the world of gaming. Glad to see it still in the works.

Archetypes

Archetype is a core motivation that pushes the individual to do what he does.

Theorist – theoretical type. Knowledge, empirical research and the search for truth – all of these are just as important to him, as money is to many of you.

Pragmatist – economical type. Material wealth and profit are in the forefront of his mind, simplicity itself.

Aesthete – aesthetical type. Self-expression, beauty, harmony, and everything else you need, if you want to elegantly screw others.

Social Butterfly – social type. Love, recognition and relationships; some of them become so picky that they can’t help but be disappointed in humans.

Politician – political type. Power and control, imposing your views and influencing others; do we even need other Archetypes?

The Believer – religious type. The meaning of life and search for it, self-development and other things “nobody cares about”, as they like to say.

Character Traits

Aside from Archetypes, an individual also has Character Traits, defining behavioral norms and the person’s role in the society. Character Traits also define things like conversational style and the way people try to achieve their goals.

This can be thought of as an “aura”, an exterior of any intelligent being’s Archetype.

Social roles, played by the individual, can depend on the time or setting (a domestic abuser can become a child asking for help, when lost on the streets).

A person can’t take on a role that obviously conflicts with their personality (a crude thug cannot become a “socialite”) but for the most part, an individual can control his urges while playing a certain role when it’s necessary.

Character Traits are unlikely to change throughout the person's lifetime.

Conclusion

It’s difficult to overestimate the role of psychological qualities. But there are also physical needs – comfort, temperature level, satiety, sexual gratification and so on. However, there is no social role, no motivation, no psychological quality strong enough to overcome Hunger. No matter who you are.

And, despite all of that, alive or dead, the being itself makes all the decisions. It needs to survive in the world full of uncertainty, where a flow of events or a nonsensical accident can erase anyone.

Can it persevere?
