Just shotgunned the thread. It's pretty interesting, and nice to see the characters develop although Jacob is a freaking annoying tit. Like cmon.

Yuri amuses me, because he really does seem like a giant doofus who just throws out proverbs he read somewhere and hopes they stick. The Julia thing does sort of explain the marriage thing, at least to me, since she probably just did it because she wanted to climb that mountain or had to do it in some sort of role... assuming she's just not going nuts.

Degradation is a little annoying, but what it looks like to me combined with the increasingly harder tasks is to make it impossible to survive indefinitely on the island.

Kind of weird though that you can't just have Winters treat people, especially considering the opening blurb.

Overall, the game does look pretty nice though, thanks for running it.

Jacob is kind of hilarious. I sort of appreciate his inclusion in the group just for how loving beyond batshit he is. He manages to be a complete douche without quite crossing the lines to make me think that the developers are trying to portray mental illness.

Day 40 – The proper response

Sylphosaurus posted:

Not that I know of. I have not beaten it enough to see if the different survivor combinations affect anything, so we will need to see when/if we get off the island.

Our gathering tools are down to 85% condition, so I spend one rope to fix the tools. The added efficiency should repay this investment before too long.

AM Tasks

Julia & Yuri – Chat, and find out a little bit about Yuri.

Useless. Yuri has terrible fishing skill, so he is never going to surpass Bob and Jacob. It could be useful to get him leveled up, since he would gain a lot of skill in Fishing, and skill points earned are what determine when you level up.

Illyana – Rest

Al – Scavenge rope (Result – 5x rope)

Jacob & Bob – Fish (Result –

We still have a few fish left over from yesterday, so I will let this slide.

Bob finally manages to level up, so I max out his fishing, and put the rest into discussion.

Alice – Explore (Result – found a fig tree)

Julia does not have much experience with fruit trees, so I think we will need someone else for this task.

Winters should fit the bill. She hasn't been on many adventures in the jungle, but hopefully she will do well.

Not too great. The tinder is only good for restarting the fire, and we have plenty of food.

Winters got lucky and did not run into a monster the first time she went out, so I think we will press her luck and send her out again.

Very good. This should give us a couple of days worth of water. Winters also levels up after her adventure, so I put 5 into exploration and 6 into scavenging. This way she can help out both Al and Alice.

Before the afternoon session, I notice that Julia is getting high in injury, fatigue, and depression. We need her for exploration, so I give a fire crystal to Julia to lower all of them by 20%. I also use two wood to the sleeping area so that our afternoon naps are at their peak effectiveness..

PM Tasks

Al & Winters - Rest

Jacob & Bob – Chat

Illyana – Research (Result – 84% completed, and levels up)

Yuri – Cook (Result – 4x fish become 4x tasty meals)

Alice – Explore (Result – 75% explored the next jungle area)

Night

I think that this is the only proper response to Yuri's parables. Either that or Yuri forgot to translate it into English and Al didn't want to comment on it.

Current Status:

Julia is feeling a little bit better from the fire crystal, but we may need to have another day of rest soon. No big changes to skills, since everyone is still focused on their designated niches.

Current Goals:

I have started targeting our exploration at the eastern jungle squares, but when they finish exploring an area, the AI picks the next square to start exploring. That is why we have those low % areas sitting there on the map. A couple of days on gathering rope and stone should get us started on the infirmary.

Day 41 – Karma

Illyana still has her level up from yesterday and she has quite a few points due to her high intelligence. Because the research is almost done, I will ignore her knowledge skill, and focus on getting her ready for her next job. I give her 7 constitution and 7 exploration so that she can help search the jungle for Athena and our next bit of the prophecy.

AM Tasks

Alice & Julia – Chat

Illyana – Research (Result – 92% completed)

Al & Winters – Scavenge rope (Result – 9x rope)

Jacob & Bob – Fish (Result –

Decent. We are still doing pretty good on hunger, so we will save the jungle events and the dried meat for another time.

Yuri – Explore (Result – found a hidden trap)

We have fish, fruit, dried meat, soy sprouts, and cheese, but we still cannot bait the trap. I think the only thing left is to try would be fresh meat. I don't think it would be worth sending someone off on a hunting trip just to try this out, so I think we will just take what we can from the trap.

Julia does not have very good scavenging, but she does have the highest stealth, so she will search it.

Even with her lowered stealth stats due to her maluses, she still gets through ok. Anyone else would still have a much lower chances of escaping injury.

Not an amazing haul, but it does get us a bit closer to making the infirmary.

Night

I am not sure if this is because of something that he did in the past or something that he is planning on doing in the future, but I am going to chalk this one up to karma.

Current Status:

Jacob got pretty banged up, so we might not want to send him off hunting or into the jungle. He should be able to fish, so he should still be useful to keep around.

Current Goals:

Still no sign of Athena in the jungle. We have almost enough rope for the infirmary, and we may be able to collect some stone from jungle events, if I can remember where they are on the map.

Day 42 – Getting stoned

We have plenty of wood for our infirmary, and almost enough rope, so all we really need is stone.

There are a couple of old events in the jungle that we can revisit to get stone from, so let's get going.

This stone hand looks fairly fragile. I bet we could take it apart with a few good whacks.

Our Russian bear should be able to do the job.

It looks peaceful so far.

And I spoke too soon.

Yuri does manage to fight off the venom long enough to get the stone, so mission accomplished!

This monkeys praying to the cross would probably like to see this pagan alter gone, so we should oblige them and get rid of it.

We need some more delicate hands for this work, so we will let our resident masseuse do it.

I suppose monstrous animals and pagan alters do go well together, so kudos to the cultists on their decor choices.

And we are one rock short of the infirmary, so back to the jungle for us.

Desecrating a grave seems a bit rude, so let's quietly pay our respects.

Now that we have observed that moment of silence, it is time to start looting.

I am not sure why it would require much in the way of skills to get stones from a giant pile of stones, but I think we will let Al continue his religious vandalism spree.

And it seems like someone takes exception to Al's new fondness for recycling.

How on earth do you loot a giant pile of rocks and only come away with a single, solitary stone? At least it is enough to finish the infirmary.

AM Tasks

Yuri – Rest

Illyana – Research

And Illyana is now demoted from researcher to assistant. She will now help assist with whatever tasks have an open spot, so expect a lot of jungle time in her future.

Jacob & Bob – Fish

Not great, not terrible.

Al & Winters – Scavenge rope (Result – 7x rope)

Alice & Julia– Explore (Result – found a branch)

This is all they could find on this island of madness and monsters? One lousy stick? This is going right into the fire as soon as we get back.

At last we finally have enough materials to make the infirmary. It may take us a couple of days to complete it, but we can finally let Dr. Winters show off her medical skills and patch up Julia and Jacob.

PM Tasks

Jacob & Bob – Chat

Illyana & Julia – Rest

Al & Winters – Craft the infirmary (Result – % complete)

Yuri – Cook (Result – 4x fish become 4x tasty meals)

Alice – Explore (Result – found dancing starfish?)

I think that someone may have been dipping into the special mushrooms again.

We might as well see if they are friendly before we come down from this trip.

If things go bad, I want our best escape artist to be the one in the middle of it.

And she manages to everything nasty.

And she comes back with a nice little trinket.

Night

Alice should just stop every conversation at the halfway point. That being said, she is still far better to be around than Julia or Jacob.

Current Status:

We really need to get that depression down, since most everyone is either yellow or orange (except for our fishermen, who get to spend every afternoon chatting).

The infirmary should only take two more days, but we have quite a large chunk of island left to explore.

Day 43 – Balance in all things

We have all we need for the infirmary, so we can take some time to celebrate before we get too busy constructing it.

AM Tasks

Yuri, Al, Winters, Julia - Chat

It turns out that spy lady likes to keep secrets. What a suprise.

Jacob & Bob – Fish

If this keeps up, then we will need to change tactics for food.

Alice & Illyana – Explore (Result – found a giant set of scales)

The weapon looks like the multiple machetes that we have already found, but the only thing we could use the stone for would be repairing some of our camp buildings. I will leave the choice up to you guys.

PM Tasks

Jacob & Bob – Chat

Alice & Illyana – Rest

Al & Winters – Craft the infirmary (Result – 41% complete)

And Al manages to level up from the crafting. The skill points will probably be best spent in crafting to get the infirmary done.

Yuri – Cook (Result – 2x fish become 2x tasty meals)

Julia – Explore (Result – 28% exploration of the next area)

Julia manages to hone her exploration skills and get a level up as well. She will probably specialize in exploration for the time being to help smoke out Athena.

Night

Well, that was nice of her. Hopefully she will still have enough energy for exploring the island tomorrow.

Current Status:

We still have a bit of depression, and our hunger is getting up a bit.

If the fishing tomorrow doesn't pan out, then we may need to hit up the jungle events for some supplemental chow.

Current Goals:

While we are busy building the infirmary, we still need to find Athena out in the jungle. The infirmary should take another couple of days to complete, so we will see which task will finish first.

We also need to decide what we want to do about the scales. Do we want to go for the rock or the weapon?

Day 44 – Weapon of choice

Before we deal with the scales of justice, I put all of Al's 10 skill points into crafting, and Julia's 12 into exploration. This way, we will be able to get our two main tasks done in less time.

The voting was two to one in favor of choosing the weapon on the scale, so let's go get it.

Julia should be able to gaffle it without any problems.

Ok, so maybe one problem.

If only Julia had a weapon to defend herself, then maybe she would have an easier time getting this weapon.

The added injury is annoying, but she did get a nice skill boost out of it. I am not entirely sure what the fighting stat does in the game, but a +20 stat boost is nothing to scoff at.

AM Tasks

Yuri, Al, Alice - Rest

Winters & Illyana – Craft the infirmary (53% complete)

Julia – Explore (Result – 58% exploration of the next area)

Jacob & Bob – Fish

It looks like we are going back into the jungle for our dinner.

Jacob is too banged up from his nighttime foraging, so it is up to Bob for this.

Bob is not the stealthiest fellow on the island.

He is still in relatively good shape, so he is in no real danger.

He gets a decent haul, so I begin to wonder why our regular yields have been so bad recently.

That is probably why. Either the rod has been wearing down fast from overuse, or I forgot to repair it last time I repaired the camp.

We still have some rope left over, so we should be able to get it in better shape.

That looks a little bit better, but we should scavenge up some more rope to get it up closer to 100%.

PM Tasks

Jacob, Bob, & Winters – Chat

Julia – Rest

Yuri – Cook (Result – 6x fish become 4x tasty meals & 2 regular meals)

Yuri manages to get a level up after all his cooking today. All he really does is cooking, so I will probably either max out his skill or give him a bit more constittution.

Al – Gather rope (Result – 2x rope)

Alice & Illyana – Explore (Result – found a lost backpack)

Another repeat event, but is is a lucrative one.

We have better scavengers, but Julia is our go-to gal for this sort of things.

The meals could be handy if the fishing pole continues to fail us, and the binoculars will help out our exploration.

Night

Al makes a lot more sense than Yuri when counseling troubled youth. Maybe it is because his discussion skill is so much better.

Current Status:

We still have a good bit of depression, but nothing too dangerous. Once we get the infirmary completed, we may need to make some more bandages to cure all of our injuries.

Current Goals:

Still looking for Athena, and construction is still in progress. One or the other is bound to change soon.

Day 45- Fighting entropy

Yuri is already at 99 cooking skill, so I decide to put his 6 skillpoints into discussion. This will make it easier to keep his depression down, and hopefully it will help iron out his strange nightly proverbs.

We need to do some maintenance around camp, so let's see what we can patch up with what we have on hand.

This should be enough for a little while.

We are running out of wood, so we cannot fix the resting area all the way.

We need some more wood for the fire, so let's go chop down some of those useless trees out in the jungle.

The fig trees we found before can be used for fruit, so we will cut down this spent hollow tree.

We need a lot of strength for this, so Julia is benched in favor of her husband.

He does take a good chunk of damage from the native wildlife, so we will not be able to send him out too often.

We get a decent amount of wood from it, so it may have been worth it.

We can use some of that wood to finish fixing the resting area.

That should be enough to fix our fatigue for a while, so we can use the rest of the wood for fuel.

AM Tasks

Al & Winter - Chat

llyana – Rest

Jacob & Bob – Fish

It looks like the repairs worked. This should make a nice meal for tonight.

Al & Julia – Gather rope (Result – 3x rope)

Alice – Explore (Result – 50% exploration of the next area)

With the rope that we gathered, we can fix up the gathering tools so that we can get more materials tomorrow.

That will need to suffice for now.

PM Tasks

Jacob, Bob – Chat

Julia – Rest

Yuri – Cook (Result – 6x fish become 1x tasty meals & 5x regular meals)

Al & Winter – Gather rope (Result – 4x rope)

Alice & Illyana – Explore (Result – found a spooky dark corner)

If we get bad results fishing, we may use this as a source of exotic (but hopefully edible) meat.

Night

That was a nice bonus, but it comes before the daily hunger from today is added on, so we still need to feed everyone today.

The cookpot is starting to deteriorate, so even chef Yuri is not able to make much out of the fish we got today. It is enough to feed everyone, but we will need to address it soon.

Current Status:

All of that adventuring out in the jungle has started to wear on our crew. We will need to be careful about who we send out from now on.

Current Goals:

We did not get any work done on the infirmary today, so we will need to get back on that tomorrow.

Hello yes I heard there was a lovely trainwreck here and...

Deteriorating tools are making it a lot harder to keep up with everything, I bet this would have gotten one of our survivors killed by this point if we'd had it from the start.

Yea, this seems overly harsh. If it was a bit lighter it would be more managable and tbh more realistic.

Not quite sure how your beds deteriorate that quickly for instance...

Day 46 – Wheel of fortune

We need to fix up our campsite, so we will need to gather some stone for our cookpot, rope for our fishing pole, and some extra wood for our fire. If we get the stone in the morning, then we can fix up the cookpot before Yuri needs it in the afternoon.

AM Tasks

Julia & Yuri - Chat

Jacob & Bob – Fish

With results like this, we can put off repairing the fishing poles for a little bit.

Al & Winters – Gather stone (Result – 5x stone)

With all this stone, we can fix up the cookpot so that Yuri can fix up those fish that we got.

We fixed it up, and we have some extra stone for next time we need to patch it up.

Alice & Illyana – Explore (Result – found a golden wheel)

At least with the scales encounter you had an idea of what you were going to get. As usual, I will let you guys choose which option to take.

I also realize that just having Jacob and Bob chat in the afternoon is a bit of a waste. Even though they are not the greatest craftsmen on the island, they can still make some progress on the infirmary. They will get some fatigue, but fishing doesn't add any fatigue, and chatting will slowly bring it down. By having them craft in the afternoon, we can get some free labor (at least until their depression starts to get too high from fishing).

PM Tasks

Al & Illyana – Rest

Jacob & Bob – Craft the infirmary (Result - 67% complete)

Yuri – Cook (Result – 5x fish become 5x tasty meals)

Winter – Gather wood (Result – 4x wood)

Alice & Julia – Explore (Result – 89% explored the next jungle location)

Night

I am pretty sure that Jacob is still able to use Dr. Winter's infirmary when we finally get it completed. At least he could back before all the program updates. It would suck to have our best hunter be unable to have his injuries treated.

Current Status:

With the repaired cookpot, we are doing a lot better on hunger, but depression and injury are still a bit of a concern.

Once we get the infirmary done, we can address the injuries, and depression is easily cured by a good campfire chat.

Current Goals:

With Jacob and Bob helping out, we made a bit of progress on the infirmary, and we are in what I would call the “eastern jungle”, so Athena should be pretty close by.

I will probably have someone gathering each day just to give us some materials for repairs, so we should be able to have two people exploring, two people on food, one person crafting, one person gathering, and two people resting/chatting. That should allow us to explore the island while keeping our camp and crew in good shape.

Day 47 – Bad luck and good news

The voting came out with the top bag on top, so let's see what we won!

Julia goes out as usual.

And she comes back with all the venom she can carry in her bloodstream. The wheel also vanished, so we cannot pick a second bag.

And now for the routine mantainance.

The fishing rod is now back up to full strength.

The workshop is at a reasonable level. I need to save some wood for the fire, so it will need to wait a bit to be fully repaired.

And the gathering tools get our leftover rope. We need to keep it in good shape, otherwise we will not be able to gather enough material to repair anything that degrades, so we need to get some rope pretty soon.

AM Tasks

Alice & Al - Chat

This would be handy at the start of the game, but sickness has not been an issue in quite some time.

Yuri & Illyana – Craft the infirmary (Result - 86% complete)

Jacob & Bob – Fish

Good tools make for good results. With our repaired cookpot, this should get our hunger under control.

Winters – Gather rope (Result – 2x rope)

Julia – Explore (Result – found an abandoned camp)

Strange that we keep finding abandoned stuff, but never any sign of the owners.

Jacob would be a decent choice for a lot of these jungle events, but he is too injured for that. Julia will go instead.

Aside from the skull, that was a pretty useful haul.

We don't need to use the decoy to improve hunting right now, but the crafting boost from the toolbox would be handy for the infirmary.

Al has some free time, so he is the best candidate to get the boost.

I forgot that we had the binoculars. I should really give them to Julia or Winters.

With the boost from the tools, we may be able to finish the infirmary today.

PM Tasks

Al – Craft the infirmary (Result - 100% complete!)

Finally! Now that this is done, we can use those drugs and bandages that we have been stockpiling.

The infirmary needs a medic to operate, and can only accommodate one sick patient and one wounded patient at a time.

By placing the patient on the left bunk, they will be treated with a dose of drugs for sickness.

And putting them on the right side will treat their injuries with a bandage.

While we can treat a sick person and an injured person at the same time, we cannot treat two injured people at the same time. This means that it will take a couple of days for Dr. Winters to treat all the injured people on the island.

Yuri – Cook (Result – 7x fish become 6x tasty meals and 1x regular meal)

Everyone else - Chat

She is definitely insensitive, but dumb is a bit harsh.

Night

I think that Illyana may have been the one to deserve the dumb trait instead of Alice.

Current Status:

Hunger is down to nearly zero, so that is one big issue off of our plate.

Depression is also down to a more reasonable level, but I should give some of the chocolates to Winters so that she can spend her time in the infirmary.

Current Goals:

We also should be getting close to Athena, so fingers crossed on that one.

Now that we have the infirmary, we can give Winters the first aid book to boost up her medical skill, and finally get everyone healed. We will need some more bandages, so we will need to get some herbs to craft them first.

Day 48 – Dr. Feelgood

We need to get Dr. Winters prepped for her first day at the clinic, so first, she gets a healthy breakfast of a box of chocolates to cheer her up.

Next, she brushes up on the latest medical issues from a random first aid magazine we found weeks ago.

Finally, the one thing that modern medical science runs on.

Coffee!

AM Tasks

Yuri - Rest

Julia – Get bandaged by Dr. Winters at the Infirmary

Jacob & Bob – Fish

This is a little bit of overkill, but it is better to use it than let it rot away.

Al & Illyana – Gather randomly (Result – 4x wood, 1x stone, 4x rope, 3x herbs)

Alice – Explore (Result – 44% exploration on the next location)

PM Tasks

Julia & Illyana - Rest

Bob & Al – Craft bandages (80% completed)

Jacob – Get bandaged by Dr. Winters at the Infirmary

Yuri – Cook (Result – 8x fish become 6x tasty meals and 2x regular meal)

Alice – Explore (Result – 93% exploration on the next location)

Night

It turns out that the crotchety old man has a soft side to him. Or possibly Winters just doped him up to the gills at the clinic.

Current Status:

Our major injuries are all better, so we could hold off on further treatment until someone gets hurt more. Alternatively, we could get everyone back down to 0% so they do not get as much depression each night from the elevated maluses.

Skills are developing well. Al, Julia, and Illyana are getting quite a few skillpoints due to the fact that they rotate around through so many different tasks.

Al loves everyone but Bob and Jacob. This is good since he does a lot of two person jobs around the island while partnered up with the ladies.

Likes Alice, Al, and her dad. She will help out Alice with exploring and Al with his various tasks now that the research is all done.

Jacob is getting along better with Bob. This is probably due to the fact that depression levels impact the probability of getting a relationship bonus when working together. Since Jacob and Bob have little to no depression due to chatting every afternoon, they tend to get a lot of positive interactions.

Winters really likes Al and Alice. This is perfect, as she will either explore with Alice, or assist Al with his odd jobs.

I have no idea why Yuri likes Bob so much. There must have been a random event some evening that did it.

Another one of Al's many assistants. She can work well with Jacob if we start hunting again, but exploring with Alice is only an average match.

All Bob does is fish and chat, so all that really matters is that he tolerates Jacob.

It does not really matter that Alice dislikes Yuri, since they will never work together in any task. She can explore the island well enough with any of the other people on the island while Yuri slaves over the cookpot.

Current Goals:

Still looking for Athena. Now that we have the infirmary, we can treat all maluses, and possibly even start hunting again if we need food.

Day 49 – Don't worry, be happy

Not a whole lot to deal with in the morning, so we will go straight on to the AM tasks.

AM Tasks

Yuri – Rest

Al & Illyana – Craft the bandages

Due to the bandages being consumable, they are a lot faster to craft than the buildings.

Jacob & Bob – Fish

Wow! Having two people with good skills, repaired gear, and a decent relationship gives amazing results.

Winters – Gather wood (Result – 3x wood)

Alice & Julia – Explore (Result – found a suitcase and a flowerbed)

I hope that the contents are still good after a month and a half in the heat and the damp.

Julia goes in as always.

Each scrap of fabric can be used to make a bandage, so those and the painkillers will give us a good boost to our healthcare industry. The magazines and chocolate will help keep our depression under control.

Not terribly useful. We could probably get some herbs from them if we wanted some, but it is probably easier to just gather randomly back at the campsite.

Jacob gets a lot of depression from fishing, so he should beef up on his discussion skill.

Much better.

I noticed that I still haven't used those binoculars, so I give it to Julia since Alice has already maxed out her exploration skill.

She should be a bit more help now.

PM Tasks

It has been a while since we have seen the campsite, so the PM task list will be accompanied by a tour of our nearly complete campsite. (I am not making that worthless meat drier)

The western edge of our camp has the spent library and the empty plane, so the only thing left to do is to use the crafting table to make bandages and drugs.

The midwest part has both the infirmary and the cookpot. I know that the smell of a good home-cooked meal makes me feel a lot better when I am feeling under the weather.

Yuri manages to make all nine fish into a set of meals that will stuff us to the gills tonight.

The central area contains our residential and recreational areas, where Illyana is taking a nap while most everyone else is chatting away by the fire.

It looks like Alice's good-hearted charm is starting to win over the other campers. This is nice since she will be exploring with so many other people.

The middle east of the island camp is where our hunter-gatherers would be working, but we have enough meat for today, and we are doing good on water thanks to that abandoned campsite we found, so this area is unoccupied right now.

The far east is where we have our exploration and resource extraction industries. Al is our best scavenger, and Winters is no slouch either, plus they have a nearly five-heart relationship going on. This means that they are sure to get a massive amount of whatever they are assigned to gather. (Actual Result – 12x wood)

Night

It looks like all of that discussion has improved Yuri's proverb skills.

Current Status:

Everyone stuffed so much that we even have leftovers for tomorrow.

We have some extra fabric from the suitcase, so we will have plenty of materials for making bandages to clear up those injuries. The depression can just be chatted away in the afternoon when the morning work is done.

Current Goals:

Still on the lookout for Athena. Alice does not gain fatigue very quickly, so she should be able to explore most of the days, with Winters, Julia, and Illyana rotating in to assist her in the search.
